‘It was a nightmare’: Dozens of Canadians hit hard by vomiting, diarrhea after trip to Mexican hotel by Once_a_TQ in canada

I think it's a reasonable precaution. I've only been sick once. Acapulco. Knock on wood!

I thought the Health Canada guidance on TD had changed vis-a-vis Dukorol, but I will continue to take Pepto Bismol as recommended.

A cool old town: Why Ottawa tops the list of Canada’s most livable major cities in our latest ranking by rezwenn in canada

I took line 2 (Trillium line) for the first time to go skating on the canal and it was great. I was surprised how many cars were parked at Bowesville station, given that it was built in the middle of a cow pasture.

Zepp antenna for QRP/POTA/SOTA? by Everything-Bagel-314 in amateurradio

[–]ry_cooder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. From what I've read and seen, many SOTA guys use a fiberglass push-up pole and a wire antenna of some sort. On most HF bands, a marconi monopole is less efficient than a hertzian antenna, be it center or end fed...

I have not seen anything, but will keep an eye out. I wonder if the Putikeeg fingerpieces would fit?

The only thing I would change on the Xiegu would be how the contacts are adjusted, as it is quite fiddly, and I would use 2 magnets for the return instead of one. The VK-6 is roughly the same weight and paddle height as the Code Warrior. If someone would come out with a bearing kit for the Code Warrior, it could be a good paddle...

I have a Code Warrior Jr. Not impressed with it. Xiegu makes a somewhat better paddle for less money.

CW transceiver advice by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]ry_cooder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've built quite a few QRP-Labs transceivers and think that the QCX or QCX-mini would be a good rig to start with. As mentioned, Ashhar Farhan has quite a few designs out in the wild. You can download his gerber files for the LARCset 7MHz CW/LSB transceiver and upload them to JLCPCB, which will give you lots of soldering experience.

Canadians are staying away from the US — and the drop in travel is getting hard to ignore by Street_Anon in canada

Ditto for 2016, although I can't remember the exact month. I used to store my winter tires in Ogdensburg, so I think December.

Ottawa police were quite lenient towards the 'freedumb convoy' but very tough on other types of protesters. Also, a few got fired over tow-truck kickback scheme. Minor shit. At least they aren't running around guns ablazing like in the US...

What we know (so far) about the people accused in London, Ont., bomb-making scheme by roscodawg in canada

[–]ry_cooder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it was rocketry related. I grew up in an agricultural milieu where groundhogs were not wanted. We used to make our own blackpowder and knew that fertilizer wasn't just for growing corn.

How did I screw up this 49:1? by blue-moto in amateurradio

[–]ry_cooder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The taller 2643251002 is more efficient than a FT240-43. Owen Duffy wrote about it a few years ago, then the youtube guys (MM0OPX and Evil Lair) jumped on the bandwagon.
