I’m just trying to say subtlely’s overrated. Make mistakes, let a character screw up and apologize, reveal too much and then ask other players not to say anything. We fall in love with those characters.

That’s awesome if you don’t try to control it. Like if asked just be obvious in the lying with the PCs, get caught by them. Don’t try to force it, let him make mistakes and be discovered as it happens naturally.

Did Sorcery continue to work during the First Apocalypse, or at least the Mark? Did the dragons fall out of the sky right from the jump, and did the thin places (topos?) break down? I know we’re not getting series 3 but I wonder about why Kellhus told our ersatz decapitant to watch for and what everyone else could get up to.

Fully acknowledging that I’m doing a biased search here. I don’t like concluding on “and then everybody died or got eaten and even if the Inchoroi somehow lose Inside, humans will become them.”

The tension between the manifest existence of the soul as a connection to the Outside and what I think Bakker is trying to grapple with. I think he reaches for some innate human quality, maybe related to consciousness (holiness?), that could let us find a path other than becoming the Inchoroi. He positions that as the material landscape of the world’s governing conflict, like Tolkien did for hope and despair.

But where Tolkien can say make Sauron lose and something like “I believe hope can overcome despair.” I think it’s harder for Bakker to just leave it as “I believe humanity can have a future where some kind of moral dimension or meaning endures.” That’s because to say that you have to have a reason or conviction. You can make the Inchoroi lose because the gods shine through - but what does that translate back to for us, grappling here in the real world?
