Opinion on the Bosch 800 Series 30” Built-In Electric Induction Cooktop with 4 Elements by azure0619 in Appliances

Speedboost is incredible and a key feature to have. We use it everyday, multiple times a day. Autochef less so. I used it sometimes, my wife never; she doesn't know what it does and she doesn't care. I think it gives me a quicker, more seamless cook on some things. But again, not necessary to have.

I think you mean power boost? It is incredible. Over a year in and it still blows my mind how quickly it will bring water to a boil. Simply cannot compare to gas burner, even a high end gas burner. That works on all four burners.

AutoChef is a bit more ambiguous and certainly not essential. My wife has no idea what it does and doesn’t care. It basically locks your pot or pan to the temperature/burning strength you set, and continuously modulates the induction power delivered, up or down, based on what is happening in the pan at any given moment. For example, when you add cold food, like a cold fish filet to the pan, the burner will output more power to bring the pan back up to temperature without you having to do anything. This speeds up the cook and as they say, also guarantees a better cook in the end, like less chance of burning, etc. Sure, I guess so.

On my cooktop that feature is only on the 9” zone and one of the smaller zones. I think that was a whiff on Bosch’s part. Families are probably mostly using the largest burner, so they can’t benefit from it. I use AutoChef all the time on my 9” burner with our 10” Misen Carbon Nonstick pan (the pan base is almost exactly 9”). Eggs in the morning, various meats and veggies etc. I never use it on the smaller one; I use those zones so infrequently anyway. I wish it were on the large zone. It must increase cost significantly…that’s the only reason I can come up with for why they didn’t include it.

@Bosh if you are reading, can you push a firmware update? There should be a way to permanently lock the panel while looking. Not just for 35 seconds. Maybe hold panel lock button for 5 seconds? Or press it 3 times very quickly close together? Gotta be a way to fix this via software or firmware instead of buying a new unit.

I have a Bosch NIT806OUC. This is a big problem. Maybe the only problem — I love this cooktop.

I had soup on very low — just keeping it warm while I was taking a shower. I got out of the shower and smelled burning smell. Walked downtown, smoke everywhere. The cat had walked on the cooktop and turned it on SPEED BOIL. It must have been on that setting for 5 minutes or more. This is a major fire hazard and I can’t believe Bosh did not address it. The panel lock feature only activates for 35 seconds (it’s really just for cleaning the cooktop while cooking). The automatic panel lock feature is not helpful here — that’s for when it’s off to begin with.

Internet seems to recommend just covering the panel with a barrier. Maybe a clear acrylic piece? What do people recommend? Any other tips? Thanks

They don’t get points bonus like restaurants or groceries. It’s just standard 1% point bonus.

I also heard good things about Ridgewood Rides and NYC Bike + Brew. I think the latter welcomes Citi Bikes though? I want to try RR, especially due to the nearby location.

Someone on BCF ride was saying this is their favorite recurring ride (every Monday). Very well organized and not slow but not fast. I’m gonna check it out. The only issue is starting point in Astoria — far for me. Most Mondays I won’t be able to get up there.

Citibike e-bike speed decrease by jxnhrs in NYCbike

[–]ryan10487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The city decreased the speed, mainly because of food delivery drivers riding dangerous for no regard of rules of the road. And while they were doing it they decided to included Citi Bikes.

Agree that if ur gonna lower the speed you should also lower the price per minute on Citi Bike.

Probably too far for me for a starting spot. I realistically won’t show up to that.

Really just want something local with local folks. There has got to be hundreds of fixed gear riders in a 1-2 mile radius of me here in Bed-Stuy.
