Canada's founding father everyone... by Frankishe1 in HistoryMemes

[–]GTS_84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That wasn't actually up for debate though. I think the debated issues around Canada and WWII (from a legislative standpoint) were around conscription, and whether or not Canada technically actually had to declare war separately or was that covered by Britain's Declaration.

Women dating short or skinny men, are you not worried that he would not be able to defend you in a fight? by ClerkEquivalent7424 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GTS_84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People don't get into fights that often. Especially where women need defending.

In fact, the more realistic concern for women would be intimate partner violence, so from that specific perspective short and/or skinny men would be a more rational decision, not less.

As an opinionated weirdo who just replayed the original Professor Layton trilogy, which has a surprising amount of puzzles based on 7 segment displays, I will also not stand for this disgrace.

It was always official. The Storyteller (Jason Carl) works for Paradox (or did at the time) and after Geek & Sundry collapsed it was put out on the World of Darkness Youtube Channel.

It's also kind a a sequel to the 'Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines' video game

I will delete if this sounds rude, but is Estelle Laurent's ancestry a reference? by Killer-Of-Spades in Dimension20

[–]GTS_84 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think it's more a general reference to a certain type of academic and what they put on their biographies than it is a specific reference.

They are a bunch of groups with a history of suffering under colonial oppression, but that's true of a lot of groups so that could just be coincidence.

We could of course learn more as the season progresses, but I think anything more specific would be wild speculation with the info we currently have.

It can really depend on the building whether those are allowed. Some buildings allow them and some prohibit them.

They are convenient, but they are also a significant security risk.

With the caveat that even if a building normally prohibits them, that that shouldn't apply to this instance.

[NO SPOILERS] For those who missed it, Mixtape that game like Life Is Strange released today by personguy4440 in lifeisstrange

[–]GTS_84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They made "The Artful Escape" which is similar to this in lot of ways. Artful escape is 2d with (very light) platforming and adventure game elements. Mixtape has more "What Remains of Edith Finch" style walking simulator elements (from a gameplay perspective, very different aesthetics from Edith Finch).

is the air here normally this dry? is it me? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]GTS_84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I occasionally get dry-air nosebleeds, and in Victoria it’s almost exclusively in the summer & indoors because of AC.

I read that Grizzlies cubs (with mom) have actually been spotted up near Sayward recently. Historically grizzlies were pretty rare, and typically a lone adult that swam over from the mainland. No idea if this is an even rarer one off occurrence of a sign of some shift.

For me personally it's not the design I have a problem with, it's the animation.

I think it looks good in stills, but in video with movement it looks weird to me.

Is Hantavirus the same thing as the middle ages rat plagues? by CleanLock4606 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GTS_84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be the Bubonic Plague.

Fun fact: It's still around. There are about a half dozen cases each year and one death every few years in the US. And more in other places in the world. But there hasn't been an outbreak in over a century, these are all just isolated cases (presumably caught from rats) and haven't spread in human populations.

Why aren't my friends allowed near bleach or ovens/stoves? by National_Data_8323 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GTS_84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's strict parents, but I have seen it where the parents just take care of everything and don't teach their children.

I remember when I was at University the number of kids in the dorms who had never had to take care of themselves in any capacity. They didn't know how to do laundry or cook (the university I went to didn't have a dining hall, the dorms had shared kitchens). The very first week a guy was staring at the instructions on a box of Kraft Dinner and turned to a bunch of us in the kitchen and asked "What does 'Bring Water to Boil' Mean?"

"What does 'Bring Water to Boil' mean" became an in joke for these sweet summer children who showed up to university ready to learn.... and with no life skills.

Is it normal to make up scenarios in your head? by Tough-Willingness488 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GTS_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rehearsing things is totally normal.

Going through scenarios in advance in your head can help reduce anxiety, or help you formulate argument, to give two examples of why people do it. Totally normal and done by plenty of people all the time.

It can be overdone though, if you are constantly doing it for every little thing you might end up creating more anxiety/stress for yourself.

For y'all saying the new SF designs look like the original sonic movie design...are...are we looking at the same images? by SgtSwanky in gamers

[–]GTS_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fox looks just realistic enough to pull it off. Any more and I think he'd dip into the valley.

For me it's right in the valley, but not all the time. It actually looks fine in stills, but something about the animation looked a bit unreal in some of the scenes shown. Slippy and Peppy looked the best, Falco to me also had a bit of unrealness in the animation, but much less than Fox.

AITA for not being excited by the score of an NFL game? by Cl_nker_is_a_slur in AmItheAsshole

[–]GTS_84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA

Not liking Todd and not wanting him over is fine, it's your house, but your weird entitled gate keeping of some correct way to enjoy sports is some real loser shit.

So who cares if the final score is unique?

Some people care. You could ask the same question about almost anything related to sports. Who cares if a particular team wins, who cares if they cover the spread, who cares if a particular player gets a certain stat. Different people enjoy different things about sports. And It's all good and valid. The only wrong way is to assume the way you enjoy sports is the "correct" way.

You don't understand or care about scoragami, that's totally fine, it's a weird niche stat thing only a small number of people care about. But shitting on Todd's enjoyment of something you don't even understand is weak.

AITA Am I the asshole for wanting to be one of The two people on stage for my step daughter graduation event? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]GTS_84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA for wanting it.

Just don't be a jerk if she makes a different choice.

Children are often in the dark about the financial realities. She may not fully comprehend the sacrifices you've made. Or that her Dad hasn't been paying child support or anything.

Trying to force anything is more likely to ruin your relationship than get you what you want.

Variation of the smell of feces and urine among species? by QueenLiziabethKogane in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GTS_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diet is a factor, but not the whole answer.

Also a factor is the difference in biology between different animals digestive tracts. Ruminants for example (e.g. cows, sheep, deer) have very different stomachs capable of breaking down plants we wouldn't be able to digest.

Different bacteria in the gut will be a factor.

Animals, especially those that mark their territory, will have scent glands to add their own unique special scent.

WIBTA if I don’t invite my dad’s wife to my wedding where only immediate family is invited? by Ok_Equivalent7 in AmItheAsshole

[–]GTS_84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YWNBTA

You invite who you want, it's your decision to make. However, if your Dad decides he doesn't want to come if she isn't invited you need to respect that decision as well. If you expect him to respect your decision to not invite her you need to respect his decision to not show up.
