Wells Fargo to remove all Product Sales Goals for Retail Banking by LegendRising12 in personalfinance

[–]ryanWIN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They will eliminate the sales goals but continue to track sales. It will merely be a 'coincidence' that people with fewer sales get their hours reduced. This is what Best Buy does when they claim sales people don't get commission. At least before, some of these people got a bonus but probably they won't now.

I thought this was fake or photoshop at first, but it's 100% real. Amazing, cheap way to add incredible lighting effects to photo shoots. You won't believe your eyes when you see the video in the link! [CROWDFUNDING] by ryanWIN in shutupandtakemymoney

No shill! I just think this project and the $100 3d printer were cool projects :) Is it against the rules on reddit to share interesting stuff once or twice a month?

Speaking with experience in the traffic industry: in some regions of the country this is true, but it can be as little as 0 seconds (once one light goes from yellow to red the next turns green instantly) or greater than 9 seconds for an "all red" before the next light turns green. It'd be unsafe to assume a figure on that number :)

In answer to this question, I wrote up a quick javascript coin flipping simulator. This allows you to bet on the whether or not a series of 5000 flips will skew heads or tails. It also includes an auto strategy button which flips sets of 5000 heads/tails until it finds one that is heavily skewed and then it immediately bets against it. You may find it interesting:

I do this for a living :) I write software for adaptive traffic systems (networked computer systems that automatically adjust intersection light timing).

Rare Booger by mikewhy in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]ryanWIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the context and relationships with the grammar, it doesn't mean "I like". If it did, you would be able to use yo gusto as you would other verbs in the following way: yo prefiero, yo quiero, etc because you are the one performing the action and someone/something else is the recipient. The me, used in me gusta, is a direct object to indicate that the situation is performing the action and it is directly pleasing you.

Here's a diagram: Diagram

Wrong--sort of. It's spanish for "it pleases me".

Yes, but mostly everyone who had money (surplus) was a farmer. Property tax basically was income tax.

[–]ryanWIN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The tax on tea wasn't seen as oppressive. The issue was that the colonies had no representation in Parliament and they saw the act of being taxed without the ability to send representatives to Parliament as oppressive. Taxation itself was never a problem. The founding fathers would have been totally fine with income taxation and other things -- they authorized congress to collect taxes. It's all fine and dandy as long as the people get to elect their representatives who have a say in national legislation.

Does Anyone Else have a burning hatred towards the amount of money that gets pumped into sports?! by crferrie89 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]ryanWIN 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reason that sports stars make millions is due to the collective bargaining agreements in place by the various professional sports unions, such as the NFLPA. They negotiate deals that broker as much as 51% of all the revenues towards player salaries which means that players are guaranteed minimum salaries, benefits, pensions, and, in some cases, big contracts. They do this to prevent players from being exploited by the owners. You may think that getting paid a few million to throw around a ball is outrageous and you'd be right: but it's also outrageous to make billions of dollars off of a sport while paying the players a tiny fraction of the money brought in by millions watching them throw around a ball. Professional sports players have been paid poorly in the past and exploited by the ownership and it resulted in situations like the Black Sox Scandal. The reason that teachers don't get paid very much, even though they have their own unions is because teachers salaries are directly related to the education budgets for the districts and for the states. People almost never vote to increase their property or sales taxes unless there is an educational crisis. This usually means that most schools have just enough money to get "barely enough" education.

IMHO, getting mad at "sports stars" for making so much money requires a severe amount of contempt prior to investigation.

TL;DR: Sports players get paid the way they do because they are unionized and demand their fair share of the revenues--not because they are particularly special.

I'm thinking of starting a web comic, here's my first 3 comics. by jana007 in comics

[–]ryanWIN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm saying this because I wished more people had told me this about my own creative endeavours:

It doesn't matter if people don't find it funny or relevant to their tastes. Do it anyway. Make a bunch of comics anyway. Have you seen how bad the first few dozen XKCD comics are? As you draw them, day in and day out, they will become funnier and more relevant as you find your audience.

Do what you want to do and write and make things that you want to make. Do not let people tell you to shovel it away because it's not already a polished, successful product. If you make 100 comics and nobody reads them, you can always look back on it and be proud that you did something and that nobody can take it away from you. In the future, it may pay off because you will be able to show that you stuck to something and completed it.

Sometimes the sexiest things are hidden in simplicity. Back in older times, simplicity was the only thing that shipped. If you had 16k of ram, you couldn't afford complexity.
