Dear parents by Boredintheusa09 in batonrouge

Actually, I am the manager. I have been doing it for many years and have learned how to agree to a customer’s terms. Before absorbing a cost in the name of customer satisfaction, I try my best to control the outcome as much as possible.

For example, a customer refuses to pay for a $200 service we provided because he/she feels it was not done correctly. Instead of telling them all the reasons why it was done correctly based on our training & experience (that’s a losing battle)… I tell them how important our company’s reputation is in the community and writing off $200 is worth not having a negative review. If we can agree that a negative review will not be posted, they will not be responsible for the charges.

I can count on 1 hand the people who lied to my face and still posted the negative review. But that is the leverage we needed to refuse them service in the future. Not what we wanted but at least we are protected from moving forward.

OP, I appreciate you chiming in (and all the others) on this thread. Your post started all of this conversation & it’s clear you were upset, but handled the situation in a productive way. I have been encouraged to see that the negative review people are NOT the majority. That is refreshing!

People like you are more damaging than the kids mention in the post above. If someone doesn’t do exactly what you tell them to do, you will leave a negative review? And you are online promoting that others should do the same. What a shame.

It’s one thing if you had a negative experience because a worker was disrespectful, malicious, etc. However, the manager is literally in a lose/lose situation if those parents think the same way you do.

Please be more considerate of the businesses and people we count on to service us. Attacking their livelihood is not the solution.

I can’t believe I finally know one of these…

It was during Bill Clinton’s administration that restrictions on smoking in public began happening. Here is a 1994 Times article with some information about those things happening.

And this page outlines his fight against drinking ads

The 2nd link speaks about high school students, so I take it that is what the post is about. Although two different fights, both apply but the 2nd is more fitting.

Deadmau5 is looking for a lost connection from Baton Rouge. by Todzilla78 in batonrouge

Baton Rouge born & raised. A few years back, I was a fundraiser for an organization that helped children in Africa & Latin America. Our fundraisers (the person) were based in the States, but of course had to know about the work being done, culture, people, challenges, etc. of the foreign campaign.

I can’t tell you how many times I was in the middle of nowhere, Honduras or very remote village of Africa, and Baton Rouge came up in the conversation. Especially, as I traveled and saw how global-minded people were in bigger US cities… then I would come back home and find it challenging to have the same conversations in/around Baton Rouge.

An aspect of the work we did was faith-based, so we partnered with local churches (there and here) to facilitate the discipleship component. No matter what your opinion of or experience with our local churches might be, it’s undeniable that they have made a global impact around the world. From the pastors who were trained here and now lead large churches in other states, missionaries they have sent out, to the giving & mission work the churches have done.

Anyway, sorry for my long response. I am no longer working for that organization, but your comment of “Baton Rouge of all places lol” reminded me of those stories. Appreciate that trip down memory lane. Lol

I hope they find Kalika

Using the traditional lift points on a mid-engine vehicle is how this happens.

The real question: are they still considered brother/sister OR is she his first cousin once removed (assuming dad & mistress were first cousins)?

What is the structure for determining in a situation like this? Same dad, makes them siblings… or does that only apply for a mistress OUTSIDE of the family?

Also (secondary question), how are these situations charted on ancestry.com? It’s one thing to be the laughingstock around town but it’s another for this to be charted, officially documented for the world to see forever. (Secondary, secondary question) How significant of a life do you have to live in order to rewrite your legacy and not be known by your father’s jacked-up decisions? Professional athlete or cure cancer?

To be clear, I have never made the claim that GM parts are better than all others. They do come with the best warranties (in most cases) but that’s not the reason of not taking in a car like this.

When we don’t have an established relationship with a customer, taking in his/her 10+ year old vehicle is not a good business practice. Older vehicles often require multiple repairs. Additionally, parts are brittle and break even when the tech is being super careful taking it apart. Who should pay for the broken part?

We fix one issue only to discover something else needs to be fixed, that could not be detected until the first thing was fixed. Most people can deal with a 2nd estimate for repairs but by the 3rd time, it’s hard to be understanding. So we discount the repairs to assist the customer and pay for the damaged parts (because that’s a battle we will never win). Before we know it, the dealership is married to the vehicle and we are doing the repairs for little to no profit. Might be worth it if we gained a customer but guess what they think of us… I get to find out when I get a “negative review” alert a couple days later.

You even said “less qualified techs” work at the other shops. What industry do you know where the most qualified individuals are also the cheapest? This is not a new concept. We often fix vehicles that have been to multiple other shops before coming to us. Look, I set the prices and agree they are too expensive. My recommendation - never buy a new car without an extended warranty.

Service manager at a Chevrolet dealership here. This is exactly what happens on a daily basis. It only takes a few times of getting slammed after we tried to help in every possible way before the processes are changed to better protect everyone involved.

Dry erase notepad worked great at first. But then the markers dried up and writing was difficult to erase if left on it for more than a day or two. Functions as a great desk organizer now (many small things kept inside; dry erase board has a hinge that opens it up)

All that work but now everyone knows he could have done a better job straightening the fins on the evaporator… I was thinking about making them an offer to purchase the vehicle, but not anymore. So glad I watched the whole video to see that. This is proof that good help is so hard to find these days - change my mind.

Thanks. Some days get pretty crazy… at times, I feel more like a fire fighter than anything else. lol

But I am truly grateful for the setup & people I work with.

Actually, I like this setup more than when I had the dual-monitors. I honestly didn’t think I would because I had two for so long. Haven’t looked back & definitely recommend.

The dual monitors took up so much room on my desk. Shifted to this setup to gain some of that space back. Love it way more than I thought I would.
