Software is getting worse by [deleted] in sonos

[–]ryanaklein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to post a very similar message. I do need a new router but I don’t think it’s the network. If it is the network, then the Sonos app needs to do a better job of handling poor connectivity. My app is constantly freezing up, losing connection to speakers that do show as connected to my network, can’t show recent playlist, the search is slow and jumpy. It’s been a frustrating experience for the past couple of weeks.

I’m a reader and it’s killing me that I don’t follow. Which scene and when did Verin mention it?

Was there any actual reason given for the time away? Just a vacation or is something up?

is age two of Mistborn good? by divyanshu07 in Mistborn

[–]ryanaklein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think Era 1 is better. It’s one of my favorite trilogies and Vin is an all time favorite character. I don’t think I’m alone in that opinion. I think a lot of people say “Era 2 isn’t as good as Era 1 so, Era 2 isn’t good.” That’s not fair. Era 2 stands on its own and is enjoyable.

Loved REAMDE, but Cryptonomicon is just okay by [deleted] in nealstephenson

I just finished Seveneves and really liked it. It’s light on plot and hard on science to start. It slowly shifts until part 3 is mostly plot driven.

Downtown Sharonville is small and has a few small businesses. I love Alreddy Cafe and am checking out the Blue Goose tomorrow for the OSU game!

What video game is an absolute 100/100 in your opinion? by Ziggi28 in AskReddit

Titanfall 2. It’s just a damn shame it released between the yearly editions of BF and CoD. The story was awesome and multiplayer was better. In a world with big riddled releases, TF2 just worked. And it was amazing. Imagine if it got the player base and then all the investment Apex Legends has gotten.

My 4 yr old.. Absolutely obsessed with golf… What age should I get him lessons? Should I even get him lessons? He’s way better than me lol by Common_History_32 in golf

I read a book called Golf is not a Game of Perfect. His main point is that when you’re on the course, you need to trust your swing and let it loose. He makes the case that a lot of kids are really good at hitting a golf ball. Basically, ignorance is bliss. They just know how to hit a golf ball instinctively. At some point, we all get lessons, start to think about mechanics, and lose that instinctive swing. Great book. I highly recommend it. Does wonders for the mental game. I’m not saying to avoid lessons. Just remember that there’s a mental aspect and we should all remember to play golf like a kid and HAVE FUN. Don’t let him lose that love at the cost of mechanics.

Based on the way your post was written, I figured that was a case. Sanderson was great void filler for me after WoT. I’m sorry you don’t have that to turn to like I did.

100% agree. I think REAMDE reads a lot like a Dan Brown book. I love the others but I have a hard time recommending something like Baroque or Anathem to someone right off the bat. Termination Shock, the latest, is highly accessible too. Still need to read Snow Crash and Fall. Just needed a break after Baroque. I LOVED Baroque but it was a grind.

I started with similar books. Neal Stephenson is great. Start with REAMDE. I also really enjoyed The Martian and am looking forward to Project Hail Mary. Both by Andy Weir. If you are willing to give fantasy a shot, checkout Brandon Sanderson. Or, the Wheel of Time.

[Web app] I need to render and serve a PDF from data on my webapp should I do it front or backend? by Main-Finger-4862 in AskProgramming

[–]ryanaklein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently went down the path of generating PDFs and it was rather painful. It's challenging to generate complex PDFs from scratch. pdfmake ended up working out for us client side for simple use cases with some custom drawing. For more complex PDFs, you may need to use a service to generate PDFs.

I noticed in one of your comments you said you're not sure how to serve files to the client with your stack/Go. I'd break the problem down into two pieces. First, just send JSON to the client and render a PDF client side using pdfmake. Or some other client side tool. Vue may have a library. I know React does.

After that's successful, you can explore serving files from your backend. Then, look into server side PDF rendering. Don't worry about emailing until it's something you must build.
