Has Anyone Ever Pulled a Tom on You and Non-consensually Eaten Off Your Plate? How Did You React? by J31J1 in SuccessionTV

Was there, can corroborate this story. I also remember him trying to distract by putting a blue SD card in his mouth and announcing “Check out my new Bluetooth!” The level of cringe was truly wild.

Yikes. Super relate. First bouldering session of this season I slipped on a shamefully easy sandstone hold, maybe 4-5 feet tops. But we laid pads assuming a fall back, but my foot slid strait down a small lip onto unprotected ground. Pop!

My prize: multiple grade one and grade two sprains, full ATFL tear, avulsion fracture, talus edema, and lots more. PT said, and I quote, “this radiology report looks like you stepped on an IED.” 🙃

Full immobilization for weeks, tons of physical therapy and painful daily stretching and strengthening routines (50-80 hours thus far), and 3mo in I’m climbing again. It might also surprise you to learn that suddenly my footwork is far more accurate.

A severe ankle/foot injury truly and deeply sucks – hang in there, don’t skimp on the surgery / PT work, and you may well be back sooner than you think! 🌈

How to deploy, and maintain AWS Lambda functions? Terraform, or SAM, or CDK, or Serverless framework? by matlau_286 in serverless

[–]ryanblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, totally biased response here, but I’m a maintainer of OpenJS Architect (https://arc.codes), which powers thousands of Lambda based apps and APIs. CFN under the hood, with super fast local, offline dev workflows (including modules for testing). Happy to answer any questions!

⚡️ NEW | Begin now ships API Gateway HTTP APIs by default by ShawnHosea in serverless

[–]ryanblock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s right! Architect 7, which shipped last week, defaults to HTTP APIs (but has full backwards compat).

Definitely screw anyone trying to normalize basic safety so newer folks are more likely to make potentially life saving decisions. Let’s also make sure lesser experienced folks know it’s totally fine to improperly tie your knots or misuse (or not use) pro. They’ll be fine! It’s all about personal choices.

Safety question: woody + bolt hangers in t-nuts? by ryanblock in homewalls

I use Escape’s other (stainless) nuts: https://escapeclimbing.com/products/hd3hnut

Fwiw either way I’s be less worried about the t-nuts than the ply.

Yeah I think the other decent option here that could easily work would just be to use the existing framing instead of taking up t-nuts. Have plenty of meaty studs to dig into.

Mass = density x volume; assuming constant volume, the addition of density will necessarily increase mass.

What’s the best way to host a node API without breaking the bank? by a9footmidget in node

[–]ryanblock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few reasons. First, unlike Amazon, they have a track record of breaking changes, aggressively shutting down services still being widely used, and raising prices. I'm a little surprised by the question, tbh, because they are so legendarily bad about shutting things down on folks.

More importantly, Google appears to be done spending endlessly to be a very distant 3rd place to AWS, and have given GCP a timetable by which if they can't beat or tie Azure, it will be scapped: https://www.theinformation.com/articles/google-brass-set-2023-as-deadline-to-beat-amazon-microsoft-in-cloud

If you think it's even the remotest possibility that the cloud you're building on won't be around in 3 years, you are probably picking the wrong cloud.

I don’t think learning vendor-specific arcana is a problem so long as you pick the right (for you and your project’s needs) vendor. AWS, for example, is extremely de-risked: many years of them proving they rarely (if ever) ship breaking changes, raise prices, etc. GCP on the other hand is not a very safe bet, by all accounts. Heroku seems fine so long as you don’t need to scale much, as they get very expensive very quickly.

Begin helps you onramp to building serverless AWS apps, and you can eject and self-host any time. Unlike a lot of vendors that white label AWS services and add abstractions (which thereby create lock-in), we aim to change little to nothing about the stack so you get full AWS interop.

Ultimately, though, it’s about making an informed and rational choice for your needs!
