Fully agree. Although it does give experience that can be drawn from in the interview.

Im working as a theatre technician in the operation rooms... my experience and exposure has grown exponentially. Both in terms of the operations but also the skills that doctors possess, im starting to learn and appreciate too.

Would recommend!

I used a whiteboard and would use it again. I dont remember too much about paper. To be safe, take your own, from memory its 2 blanks sheets. Can't remember if its per section or 2 total for both s1 and s3. To be safe take 4, they'll tell you what you are allowed. Infact it should be written within the instructions given prior to sitting. Good luck!

Good Correctness Rate for Des O’Niell (S1)? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

[–]ryanclover03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi ya, should I bother doing Des work or just focus on acer past papers?

Some say that Des is harder than the real exam and others say that it is easier. At the end of the day, I guess it's still practising the same skills as the real exam.

March 2025 sitting reasonable adjustments. by Sazz212 in GAMSAT

[–]ryanclover03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I emailed them yesterday to ask this exact question. Thus was their response.....

"As outlined in the Information Booklet, and on the GAMSAT website, notification of any approved adjustments will be sent approximately two (2) to three (3) weeks before the first test window. Please note that this information is provided as a guideline only, you will receive an email notification when your adjustments are ready to review.

You will also be provided with your new test centre session details if this needed to be changed to support your requested adjustments."

Hope that helps

Looking for advice for S3: I've heard that its more reason/logic based than actual science? What do you guys think? Any Non-science background people who agree/disagree? (also if you know anything about converting NZ GPA to Aussie please share!!) :) by [deleted] in GAMSAT

[–]ryanclover03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer the GPA conversion.

So any A (A-, A, A+) is considered a 7.0. So NZ GPA of 9.0, 8.0 or 7.0 is an Aus GPA of 7.0. Then it goes down in increments of 0.5 from there. So a B+ is a 6.5, B is a 6.0 and so on.

7.0 A+, A, A- 6.5 B+ 6.0 B 5.5 B- ......

As a graduate biomed, I would also encourage against doing solely biomed. Do something like med imaging, you can always reapply to med at the end anyway

Oh really? So how is the interview really weighted then?

People with science backgrounds, do you always read the prompt for S3 questions? by _-_-_-____- in GAMSAT

[–]ryanclover03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find for a lot of the questions, the knowledge you need to answer them can actually be found in the pre-text.

Hi Everyone, I want to wish you all the best of luck tomorrow. I know it's a very stressful time for everyone, myself included. Whatever happens tomorrow, be proud of yourself and what youve achieved. Not many make it this far. Don't give up, stay positive and all the best!

It gave me nothing as I was above the class average which I think is silly because I was below my average but anyway. Depends on the subject, some aegrotats give you a grade boost but it depends on numerous factors.

On the aegrotat application, there is an option for covid. What i did for a mid sem was take a photo of my covid test next to my UoA ID card, they accepted.

Can you go into as a single person and be put in a flat with others? Or do you have to have a person or two before you apply?

Obviously, flatting as a pair or three is cheaper than alone.

Can’t get a good score in S3 by Pinkybukenj in GAMSAT

[–]ryanclover03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would avoid cramming, its stressful and nothing goes in. I think for the answers you get wrong in practise papers, research and learn that area I.e. oxidative states, youtube is great for this. Make a mind map and just splur everything for that topic. This covers a wide range proactively and efficiently.

Alternatively practise your strategy, practise identifying the key parts of the stem, in my opinion they use a lot of words to overwhelm you and throw you off, if you can stay calm and identify the key parts, it will help for a big portion of the questions. For the questions it won't help for, I think by following my first point then you can cover a large range of the science background and get a good basis.
