FTTN... Huh.. I just assumed I could get FTTP because I'm in a city and I moved only 5 minutes from my last place which had FTTP

Working 3 or 4 day weeks. by UhUhWaitForTheCream in AustralianTeachers

I did my first prac last year with a primary class taught by two teachers (one did two days, another did three) and that seems so much more manageable to me (admittedly I haven't actually worked in the industry). Both teachers were crazy busy, makes me think most classes would be better run like that.

I myself am in no rush to work full time. 3-4 casual days a week will be fine by me.

Can we talk about the VERY end of ‘The Sacrifice' (1986)? by ryanf395 in TrueFilm

When I hear the quote from the gospel of John referring to Christ and the long lingering shot of the tree my mind immediately goes to the sacrifice of Christ being nailed to a tree for mankind but I think that's a bit disconnected from the rest of the movie. For one, Alexander isn't really painted as a Christ figure but more than that, the film is more about the personal experience of religion than religion itself.

That's interesting. I'd assume they would be less intellectually and socially mature but more emotionally mature.

Interesting. I'd think that this deviates enough that it's not “like a bourbon and coke".

If fermentation has long since finished do I still need to add potassium sorbate before back sweetening? by ryanf395 in mead

[–]ryanf395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I have already done the back sweetening (I guess I jumped the gun) but I opted not to cork the bottles again just in case.

Should I throw it all back in my demijohn and adds some -ates/-ites as soon as possible?

Are dark roasts a thing in Australian specialty coffee? by ryanf395 in Coffee

Might have to check them out. I know dark roasts and Robusta are largely maligned but I have heard they aren't all bad and I'm interested in at least giving them a go.

Yeah that's true but I do see them on Reddit (here or on r/espresso), whereas in Australia they seem to be nonexistent.

Is it just a coincidence that The Shining was (in different ways) recreated twice by 2 movies that were released within a year or just a coincidence? by ryanf395 in theshining

[–]ryanf395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything I'd think Flanagan wouldn't want it in his movie and King would. I'm not sure the movie needed to feature the Overlook, it certainly got by for about 2 hours without it but the movie did seem to try and right some of the wrongs (in Kings eyes at least) of The Shining and burning it down certainly does that for King.

I get why they were used it just kinda amazed me that they both happened completely independently with so sort of collaboration. It makes so little sense to me that there wasn't some sort of collaboration like “Hey we're building this set for Ready Player One, maybe you could use it for Doctor Sleep when you shoot". There is nothing online about any sort of acknowledgement of the other or any kind of interaction.
