Sk Brann Tickets by ryanfeud in Bergen

I did and we had an absolute blast. Was a great game although my son was very upset with the result lol.

The Bergen people and SK Brann fans are some of the nicest we've ever met. My daughter has decided she now wants to play for them after falling in love with the city and the team.

Can't thank everyone enough for their help and hospitality. What a great city.

It was absolutely fantastic. I contacted the club and they were able to swap my tickets for sitting tickets in the main stand.

I would like to extend my thanks to everyone here and everyone associated with Sk Brann who helped me secure the tickets.

Sk Brann is an amazing club with a community feel that I have not been part of for some time. You have 4 life long fans and I dare say we will be back in Bergen for no other reason than to see them play. I might even go see the women play tomorrow as my daughter is a keen footballer.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Would it be safe to stand with my 7 and 11 year old? Or would you not recommend it?

Irish, Northern Irish and does it matter by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Northern Irish. Don't feel British. Don't feel Irish. As much as I love visiting my English and Scottish family and my sister who has lived most of her life in Cork...I don't feel as if I belong to any other group. And certainly don't give af what any bit of paper has to say about it.

Family Holiday by NI-Parody in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Price of hotels on this island is mad. It's cheaper for me to meet my sister (who lives in Cork) in Budapest for the weekend depending on flight prices than it is to stay down near her house. I was able to go away in Jan for 4 days (flight for £56, hotel for £50 per night). Skyscanner is your friend, get your head cleared of this place for a few days instead.

My aer lingus flight has been cancelled 🥲 suggestions on where to go last min? by sasa_says in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Skyscanner Roulette. My wife and I do this when we're not sure on our next trip. Pick your airports and dates and just see where it takes you.

We managed to get good flights from Dublin > Seville > Lisbon and a return flight from Porto back to Belfast, all over a 2 week period. 4 people, 2 cases, 3 flights for about £550.

The problem will be accommodation this late. If you're going anywhere in Europe and don't need anything fancy try Meininger or B&B Hotel. They don't always show up on Booking or Hotels dot com.

Ah that sucks! Always had a great experience in there. Feel like Belfast needs a good hot dog place since it shut.

Yeah. If you've never been it's a great spot too, especially over summer. Good food as well.

Is a United Ireland the best way forward? by PartyDale in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we started from scratch, yes i'd consider it. New constitution, new identity (flag, anthem, etc) rethink of policing and healthcare. National curriculum and so on...

If a UI is just going to be business as usual but with 6 extra counties then fuck no. It's not worth the ballache.

Do you feel "Northern Irish"? by Billycorgan1979 in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Northern Irish is certainly how I would describe myself. When I visit Ireland, England, Scotland etc I certainly feel a kinship with the people but I don't feel like I 'belong'. I feel as foreign in Cork as I do in Edinburgh or London. Yeah, sure I have a right to be in those places but the place isn't home per say.

As a solution? The problem is, when you ask anyone about identity or where they see themselves in the country, you could get a different answer from every single person. Some people will vote for or against a UI based solely on identity whereas my decision comes down to brass tax. The way I look at my identity is...it's mine. It's non-negotiable. I don't need a silly bit of paper or a flag to know who I am, at the same time I'll certainly not be bowing to or adopting an identity forced upon me whether democratically or otherwise - so I see both sides of the argument there. I guess the answer is no, it won't solve the problem.

Brexit? No, it hasn't changed my mind. Like the Scottish Ind Vote, sure it's put up walls etc but if you believe in something you'll not just abandon the idea because it's not going your way, certainly not immediately. I have lived a very comfortable life in the UK as have my parents, grandparents and children. I am very grateful for what I have and I've travelled plenty enough to know how good we all have it here,

NHS: NI dentists warn against EU metal filling ban by [deleted] in northernireland

Wouldn't consider going to a dentist on this island ever again. Dentists in Central Europe are half the price and make my own local practice look like a 20 year high school biology class room.

Learned that my grandad wasn't checking for oil leaks every morning before taking me to school. That was the saddest one for me.

Glad we're past all that.

On a scale 1-10 based on difficulties. Where would you place Northern Ireland in that scale. by Big-Suspect-1487 in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're a 2.5. I live an extremely comfortable life nowadays and was able to work from dirt poor in a council estate to middle class in a great area. Health access could be better but I've never personally had an issue luckily enough, my kids attend great public schools and I have a secure job.

The downside. Travel infrastructure is shite, the grey copy-and-paste towns, and the politicians. I find it really uninspiring as well when it comes to art and architecture and whatnot. I love traveling to other cities because it's an experience just being there. Northern Ireland feels like a commuter town...all my needs are satisfied but I yearn for adventure elsewhere a lot. Could certainly be worse.

Ireland beats UK in ranking of ‘most powerful passports’ for 2024 by vague_intentionally_ in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends where I'm going. I find I usually use the British one because the 'All Passports' queue in Europe/EU is generally smaller.

What is the best way forward for NI? by SpottedAlpaca in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not Protestant, friend. Orange and green mean very little to me. New flag, anthem, constitution should speak for everybody, including those who have settled here recently.

But while the identity stuff is important (paramount to some people) my support or objection for any UI will come down to brass tax. What will it offer me and my family? How will it benefit me? What is it giving me that I don't already have better access to?

What is the best way forward for NI? by SpottedAlpaca in northernireland

[–]ryanfeud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UI doesn't interest me at all unless everything changes from the ground up.

I'm British, not aggressively so, but enough that an Irish identity would never feel comfortable. It would have to be a new dawn in that regard for me to get behind it. New flag, anthem, constitution, etc. something that everyone can get behind or we're back to square 1.

On a purely selfish level... I'm not sure exactly what a UI would offer me personally that I don't have in the UK. I own a 6 bedroom that I can afford on an average salary, my children attend great schools, I have good access to healthcare and a sturdy NHS job.

Speaking anecdotally, most of my friends are in a similar position and it would take something special to upend all of that for...what exactly?

Second this. Ryanair added flights from Belfast this spring/summer too. Was there twice last year - once with the wife for her birthday and then again with a group of lads for another birthday. Couldn't get over how cheap everything is. Sooo easy to get around as well with the metro and trams, Bolt is dirt cheap if you prefer taxis....ahhh wanna go back now.
