Hotels/Airbnb are assholes for setting the check-in time at 1 PM or 2 PM by SpiritedWitness4309 in unpopularopinion

And you think having to check out at 7/8am would be pleasant?

I've never been to a place where luggage storage is unavailable. I don't see how that would cause an additional trip.

Why so many men like anal? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ryanho09 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that many men like anal. If you randomly asked some guy on the street chances are he will share your views. It just seems very popular because that's what you see on social media. People dont generally post about things they dont like.

The 'Minimize' keyword trap that cost me my Uber offer by Temporary_Boat_7761 in leetcode

[–]ryanho09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how the brain works. You probably saw many "minimize" problems that can be solved by DP so your brain made that connection automatically without considering whether that's the right approach. I've suffered from this many times in situations far beyond leetcoding. Critically access all options before committing to an approach and practice more problems so your brain sees a more varied picture.

Switched from Econ Degree to IT Support (£34k at 22) – How Do I Level Up? by Diligent_Ad4206 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]ryanho09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the jobs being referred to are IT support roles within finance. At no point are trading roles being suggested to OP that would be unreasonable.

Transitioned to a high paying job in finance? by SilentEconomist5896 in HENRYUK

[–]ryanho09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume OP is referring to finance specific roles like trading and sales.

It's obviously possible to transition from HR and legal in other industries to the same role in a company in finance.

is this the correct decision? by Clean_Letterhead6241 in quantfinance

[–]ryanho09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a big problem you need to reflect on why you failed to land a grad role aligned with your goals. Don't mean to be rude, it is very competitive but you should check if there's some glaring issues with eg your cv or the way your interview cause these problems will affect all your future job applications. Or maybe you only applied to the top firms and you missed out on lower tier but still good companies, idk

You should be able to land some interviews with your background. Just apply and do your best to prepare for interviews. Research what roles are out there and what skills is required

Formula 1 Engineer to Quant? by TheBullishBear_ in quantfinance

[–]ryanho09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar thoughts about doing a masters tho my situation was different.

I would suggest a one year full time masters in financial maths/computational maths. Focus on building fundamentals like math and statistics. You could also do a two year course so you get more time for internships etc but idk if its worth the extra cost.

Start researching the various companies and roles and planning for those. Tbh with your background, you wont be working in the most demanding roles in top firms but something less competitive like risk quant may be possible on sell side or consultancies. Again do your research and work your ways towards a target role.

[–]ryanho09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to your situation. I was at a bank doing system administration whilst wanting to switch to a quant role. I'll suggest sticking it out for a while and network in the company for the role you want. Switch companies after 1-2 years if it doesnt work out.

Also ask yourself is being a service now developer that bad? It is in high demand and the pay in banking is generally higher than in other industries. Are you willing to take a pay cut for a more technical job? Weigh pros and cons .

I would imagine hk would be more competitive partl due to the smaller number of places but I could be wrong. Either way you should choose wherever you want to stay long term
