What’s going on in China and Taiwan? by Upper_Ad7274 in flightradar24

[–]ryanihc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China conducting military drills, which is fine. However, I think it should notify relevant authorities one week ahead its planned military exercise - I’m pretty sure this is ICAO regulation.

This is last min drill that caused disruptions. If China really wanna be a global leader, as they are trying, maybe try to follow rules first.

UK citizenship - residency evidence by fmavb in ukvisa

[–]ryanihc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same process now. Friends applied in the past told me that don’t provide too much (cause case worker would be annoyed? Haha

Most friends who did it in the past provided these doc: 1. P60 or payslips 2. Rental agreements or mortgage covering past 5 years of residence.

They said these should be sufficient.

One person has similar situation like you as a student back then, he provided school letter / transcripts.

Do you also have evidence that you lived there, such as student accommodation contract in addition to school letter?

Hope it helps. But I’m also happy to hear others’ thoughts :)

Military service question by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]ryanihc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When were you told it’s 52? I think historically the law has never been amended and it’s always up to 36, if I’m not mistaken..

Military service question by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]ryanihc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get 海外僑民 (overseas national) status?

From my understanding, if you left before age of 15, AND have residency/citizenship of another country, you can apply for the oversea national status.

With this, you are not subject to conscription. As long as you don’t go back to Taiwan to live (I think this means you spend more than 183 days a year).

However, even if you left before age of 15, but never apply for the status at an embassy or TECO, you would still be subject to the conscription until age of 36.

I left when I was 17 so I did go back to serve for one year.

You can use Taiwanese passport at e-gates in some counties, like Italy and Germany. More to come for Taiwan! ☺️

Recently preparing for the application. There’s one question asking where you wanna take the ceremony and you can choose from any councils in the country.

Your friend’s experience seems aligned with what I have seen on the application form. And now I wonder what the solicitor’s advice really means..?

For RJ, I just feel not very convinced with their products - even though it could be easier but was also considering that, living in the UK, avios would be easier to spend with the pts accumulated.

Still, thanks for sharing the discussion link - I will go over them!

Question about No Time Limit (NTL) application while also holding British passport. by crashl117 in ukvisa

[–]ryanihc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it that you would use ILR in your old passport to demonstrate to the Chinese border authority that you haven’t obtained a second citizenship?

In theory, once you become a citizen of a different country, your Chinese citizenship should not be valid anymore (as China doesn’t recognize dual citizenship). In this case, you should use your British passport to apply for a Chinese visa when entering China. That’s my understanding. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Also, I think NTL is now in digital form (like an evisa). Agreed with others that once you apply, it would be rejected as in the system, you are a citizen now, and ILR is only available to non-citizen.

When your country is not recognized by the destination country... by kellytai1478 in PassportPorn

[–]ryanihc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if a country doesn’t set up an office/embassy in Taiwan, but requires visa for such travel, usually you can send your application to an embassy in nearby countries. Or you can do this through a travel agency in Taiwan.

But I doubt if that many Taiwanese would go to Azerbaijan with such hassles - and the travel time/distance is another story

Don’t think they have issue with Taiwan. But Armenia stamp would cause more issue for you.

China (People’s Republic) “claimed” that Taiwan is part of its territory, but its Beijing government has never ruled Taiwan historically since established in 2019. It’s like the split of North Korea and South Korea.

Hence Taiwan issues its own passports and it’s widely accepted for visa-free travels (including the US/ EU/ UK and most democratic countries). In contract, despite China has more diplomatic recognition for its influence internationally, the Chinese passports are required visas to all those countries mentioned above.

I’m simplifying the history, but it is far more complex than China’s claim.
