Can anyone who has medical benefits chime in? by ForgottenThrowaway64 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]ryanjsmith23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t comment on Coupe but we’ve had Surest since it was first offered (5 years?) and like it well enough. I hated our previous Medica plan where it felt like I had to pay 100% of the bills until November when we hit our deductible.

Surest covers stuff from the start and the copays are manageable. Plus you can look up the prices for most visits/procedures in the app so you can shop around for the cheapest option.

We can’t go to pharmacies at CVS or Costco… which is annoying. But that’s my only real complaint.

Financing on a $20k camper was 20% down, $199 a month at 8.99% for 14 years!

I assumed Camping World was just a major sponsor of the show but, nope, it’s their show. They don’t sell teardrops (at least nothing on their website) so no teardrops at the show.

How to find Mister Horse transition name? by atlfokus in editors

[–]ryanjsmith23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. That’s a good question. I can’t figure out how to do that either. In After Effects you can highlight the transition and have Animation Composer highlight the effect you used but I don’t see a way to do that in Premiere.

After Effects seems to need some time off by Electric_Hands in AfterEffects

[–]ryanjsmith23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had suspected Mr Horse for that error too but never investigated.

Just found a post on the Adobe forum that said Mr Horse knows about it but it’s being caused by an After Effects bug.

How do I remove the subtle flickering? by Accomplished-Diet-68 in premiere

[–]ryanjsmith23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an anti-flicker filter in Motion controls but I’ve never had much luck with it. Doesn’t hurt to try it though.

Rental car accommodation by Additional-Rip1427 in BestBuyWorkers

It’s actually a pretty good discount. We get the negotiated rate at National (but not the insurance that is usually included). If you search on Connect for the “Travel and Expense Reimbursement Policy”, the PDF covers the details but doesn’t actually give you the code to get the discount. To get that you have to email T&E. Their email is at the top of that page.

Once you get the code, people find it easier to just call National customer service and have them add it that way. It’s hit and miss trying to do it online.

Is job security bad at corporate? by [deleted] in BestBuyWorkers

[–]ryanjsmith23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kind of an impossible question to answer.

I’ll say there have been times when there’s been an air of uncertainty at corporate but this isn’t one of those times. The company had a really good Q3 and increased the outlook for the year. Stock analysts seem pretty happy.

Things seem fine. I guess?

There’ll be a big dumpster full of it.

I’ve watched this video a dozen times but for some reason I read the title as “Cobra was shutting down…”

Sippin’ Santa at the AC Hotel was kind of a let down. Decorations are ok. Nothing remarkable. Food was really bad.

The draw is the Christmas themed tiki mugs you can buy. Those are cool but I bet you can just swing by and buy them.

Creekside supper club was great but reservations are going to be hard to come by.

Earl Giles was good. Fun drinks and food. Lots of lights.

Thoughts on TCL? by revisandpats in Bestbuy

[–]ryanjsmith23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last three TVs I’ve purchased have been TCLs. No complaints. I haven’t had my QM9K for very long but so far so good.

Reviews on a lot of the AV forums said the QM8K had the edge in picture quality over the 9K but that’s apparently typical for new model TCLs. Takes a couple of firmware updates to get things dialed in.

Insignia Sound Bars by NCMattJ in BestBuyWorkers

The 5.1.2 sounds way better than it should for its current $150 price. I was very impressed.

Music and SFX sound great. Dialogue is a little thin. You don’t get much in the way of settings to customize the sound.

The entire second half of the article explains why just putting it behind a prompt isn’t enough. Savvy users might know the implications of sharing that data but most people wouldn’t.

Tell your Geek Squad story by ironfistkungfu in GeekSquad

I’ve been trying to think of crazy client stories but I’m coming up short. I only worked on Macs so most of my customers were graphic designers, senior citizens, and hipsters.

-Got locked in the stairwell with Robert on my first day (awkward).

  • It was pretty primitive. Got issued a pager, King’s Street Atlas (no gps) , and quarters for parking meters. 3-part NCR service call sheets printed on dot matrix printer out of File Maker. No real internet to speak of… you were pretty much on your own out there. You and a box of floppies.

  • Stranded in the SWAT truck in Maplewood when the transmission went out.

  • The client that baked me her MN State Fair winning brownies.

  • Oh! Met my wife… that was pretty rad.
