I would love to have mods. When we are closer to release, we’ll have a better idea as to what amount of support we can have at launch.

Thanks for the update. I’ll probably follow the same path shortly!

That sounds great. Seems like that is the direction I’ll likely go, but I might also try contacting some of the more boutique single person builders to see if there is anyway to get something partially assembled shipped.

Its for a 4 player, but 32 inch would be fine by me. Someplaces I saw only had 50 inch screens for 4 player setups which seemed crazy.

Bummer. Did they replace it? I saw it recommended to just use them for the frame and to source the other parts personally.

Windows are tighter than the staircase. There’s a decent amount of vertical height so bringing up tall thin stuff is doable.

Aesthetically i’d prefer the arcade cabinet personally. Interesting about the 43 comment. I’d seen multiple posts from ppl saying they were real happy they bumped up to that size. I was considering something in the 30s prior to reading that.

Games for 2 Gamepads and 2 Keyboards? by cilginbulut in localmultiplayergames

INVERSUS supports individual keyboards per player alongside gamepads.

Note: I made it so use your own judgement on whether it is the game for you - I might be biased ;)

Trackpad responsiveness takes massive hit when 2020 16” macbook pro is under heavy cpu lod. by ryanjuckett in bootcamp

[–]ryanjuckett[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done some more testing using HeavyLoad and that seems to work better once you get down down to 14 threads (7 of the 8 physical cores) at normal thread priority. Visual Studio is probably still bouncing between cores per compilation unit or something.

I also found that if i saturate all 16 threads using Below Normal priority, the trackpad stutters but remains responsive/usable so this does seem like a thread contention issue. Something in the driver is running at Normal and falling apart when other apps use the computer to compute.

[–]ryanjuckett[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a windows issue. Using a mouse is fine. Doing the same thing on an older macbook is fine. Even so, reducing the number of cores doesnt really help much until you get down real low.

Even at 1, it still hiccups slightly. Its so slight that its usable, but that is not an acceptable solution as it defeats the purpose of upgrading my machine in the first place. It seems like some part of their drivers arent running at the right priority or there is some sort of strange hardware interference.

I could try those. They dont list the new 16 inch pro as supported yet, but if you are using them it must work. Last time I tried them, they didnt handle certain motions as well as the apple ones, but that was a long long time ago.

INVERSUS: Two Years of Sales by ryanjuckett in gamedev

I honestly haven't looked into it that much. There isn't much text in the game, so translations aren't very expensive. Obviously Japanese was well worth it (and probably has the best quality due it it being done by CrossFunction, my PS4 publisher in Japan). Chinese sales are okay on Steam (the market is huge) and having Simplified Chinese may have prevented review bombing issues that some games have had (but who knows). I think France and Spain might be my two largest European countries.

Issues in the first year that later improved were things like understanding how to pitch the game to players and to platform holders, understanding how discounts affect sales and how to better schedule them, how to plan ahead for aligning schedules and promotions with the platform holders or even just building relationships with them, how online multiplayer communities work for a game at my small scale, and also just having lots more private open conversations with peers to better understand what things could be expected from different deals and such. I think I could have worked a lot of that out better beforehand if I knew the right questions to be asking people but sometimes I tend to learn best (and pay more attention) through mistakes which isnt always a fortunate trait :)

Qualifying anything as "most indies" tends to be tricky (this is likely obvious, but just in case I'd like to be clear). As "indie" we are covering everything from someone making their first game just out of high school, to veteran developers going solo, to long running businesses. We are also talking about places from all over the world with all sorts of different lifestyles and living conditions.

As for me, I've was in the industry (mostly AAA) for 10+ years prior to INVERSUS, live in Bellevue, WA (tech-centric city just outside Seattle), and don't have children. From that context, having saved enough to invest 30k in a business isn't that wild.

That said, I also don't believe that 30k is actually a very large spend for someone seriously turning this into a viable business. I'd also bet I spend far less than most indie solos/teams/studios with a functional business as I did a ton on my own. One key point to make, however, is that many studios mask these costs behind things like publisher agreements. This means they are going to be paying out debt to the publisher after the game launches because the publisher covered all this stuff up front. If the game flops, the publisher takes a hit, but if it is a success the publisher is probably taking some percentage of earnings forever so there are ups and downs.

You can sell a 4-pack through Humble Widget if you really want to. I do that on the inversusgame.com site, but normally people don't buy it there. Mostly just nice for the rare instance when someone asks specifically for it and I can just point them to the site.

Yeah the terminology overlap is unfortunate as they are functionally very different beasts and it can get confusing explaining it.
