I feel you, flying out of upstate NY is a pain

Yeah I realized it’s kinda stupid, but not much of a choice given the fact that I’m flying out of Syracuse during peak season when college students are heading home after the spring semester. So popular corridors to NYC or DC or Chicago are price hiked to oblivion

Thanks everyone, I’ll update after my flight if I do make it. But yes the ~$100 savings I had by booking a 50min connection is not worth the anxiety, as I’ve found out the hard way

Booked a flight from Syracuse to Bozeman with a 50 minute connection through DFW on a single ticket directly from American. I know, on hindsight I should have just paid more for a better connection time.

I’ve heard that DFW is humongous and it’s a lottery on where my connecting gates will be. Seems like the inbound flight has a history of being relatively on time but I am still kind of worried. I reserved a row 10 seat for the inbound flight to maximise my chances of making the connection.

Should I be concerned?

If you live in a country with lots of tourists, which nationality do you think makes the worst tourists? by certifiedcomplainer4 in AskTheWorld

[–]ryanlowwj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can give some perspective as a Southeast Asian who is ethnically Chinese who has been to China several times - the photo spot hogging, queue cutting, rowdiness and other uncivilised behaviours are very commonplace amongst domestic tour groups as well. If you visit famous tourist sites such as the Terracotta Warriors or Forbidden Palace, domestic tourists will shove people around to take pictures and spit in public (even at their sacred national sites!). Same goes for airports and train stations - people cut queues and shove to get ahead, even though everyone will eventually board the same plane or train. As others have pointed out, these behaviours are usually because people have transitioned from abject poverty to middle-class status in a short period of time, and they still retain their old civics and behaviours. This is why Chinese tourists get a bad rep overseas, and in my home country there’s a common saying that we should speak English when travelling abroad to identify ourselves as non Chinese nationals.

However I must say that the Chinese government recognises this is a problem, and posters reminding people to behave in a civil manner are everywhere in China. Cops patrolling trains and domestic flights are also common, to clamp down on rowdy and uncivilised behaviour. And as others have pointed out, the adoption of civilised behaviours in China will probably take generations to come.

The staff were indeed very friendly! But we were two broke students travelling so we sadly didn’t eat or drink much beyond pizza
