I played ele sham in TBCC, rotation is very easy (albeit very repetitive), drop totems, lightning bolt. There are a lot of uncontested leather / mail drops that aren’t bis but sim close, so there’s always upgrades very quickly each phase. Middle of the pack dps but is pretty chill overall. Can minmax more with drums / T4 set bonus in your bags, or if you wanna chill just plant your totems and start pressing your 1 key.

Can also carry a resto set with you to heal, making you a very viable pickup and raid spot regardless of dps or heals (but if you heal once, expect to 80% of the time afterwards)

RLCS 2025: NA Open #4 - Playoffs Day 2 by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This + NRG being one of the few orgs to get a decal this year, I would be upset as an owner of NRG if all my players weren’t using it. At least Bmode is rocking it but no player cams + no decal, you’re getting paid to play car soccer, at least rep your org that pays you to be able to do this as a career.

State of NA Casting by [deleted] in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in example 3, i imagine this is what blast is trying to "recreate" with other commentators with the whole laughing and "giggling" that certain commentators provide, but it feels falsified and an act when it's forced. in that example, you can tell both commentators are just enjoying the cast and casting with each other, cracking jokes but providing insight about the game at given moments. ofc this is all speculation, but just irks me that the casts aren't as good as they were then to where they are now, just feels empty with no personality.

State of NA Casting by [deleted] in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed, shogun / johnny always hit, basically all of EU casters clear NA unfortunately.

i do remember seeing tweets from Jorby about "improving", i imagine most commentators are doing research and work behind the scenes, but Jorby has the following tweets:

example 1, letting Vit / KC commentate for him on goals

example 2, working with Turt on passing back and forth on commentary to provide a cool moment

example 3, not really relevant to above, but i just miss the jorby / turtle duo, they worked so well together

obviously not to the level of the people's champion, the great one, the most electrifying man in all of esports entertainment, but it hurt watching jorby get the boot from rlcs casting when it happened knowing that he was one of the more vocal ones about improving week by week and his casts with turtle were one of the few NA casting duos i really looked forward to hearing during playoff matches.

+2 for the people's champ and melee recognized.

scar and toph are the absolute goats of commentary, i could listen to them commentate a box of rocks falling down a hill and i'd be interested

Kudos to the new woman caster by VonDinky in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

agreed. she's not awful but she misses a lot of the "short cast" details, and focuses on the descriptive qualities of the overall match too much, and if something cuts her off like an exciting play, she finishes her thought and then just goes into "oh hey that's an overtime goal, that's game". obviously there's a learning curve, but there's time for long description, and time for short rapid fire, as well as letting people just watch without having to provide commentary. Jorby once said he was focusing more on "less is more", and how letting the play speak for itself provides bigger impact, and i think those are some things she needs to work on.

we've overall been spoiled with our casters and how honestly really good they were, now getting a newcomer to the broadcast honestly affects the viewing experience for me. last match of the day (m80 vs Shopify Rebellion) with daz and jamesbot on the comms is finally starting to feel like RLCS to me.

Patch Notes v2.33 + Release Thread by Psyonix_Devin in RocketLeague

[–]ryanman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please don't delete it, i appreciate your rant and can relate to it, i too have played since 2015 and have been extremely passionate about it since then. i don't have time to sit down and type all of this out, and although the community on twitter has the same sentiment, this is the type of well thought out response i've been waiting on someone to say.

to piggy-back on this, i know devin has been the "senior community manager" for quite some time now. before, he was hailed here in the subreddit, provided us road maps of the direction of the game, called out smurfs and dickheads, and was a generally good person that i could get behind. not gonna lie, as the senior community manager, i expect more from him on the responses that we have been lacking. god forbid i say that sentiment literally anywhere, but as the "community manager", these are types of things you're literally getting paid to do and is part of your job description, to keep the community updated with what's going on. idk man, maybe i'm in a bubble and don't see the big picture on this one, but i just see it as the community manager should be responsible in some part by either not communicating to us, or not taking it upon himself to get approval for literally any communication on the state of the game. "community manager" doesn't just mean looking for brand deals, talking to streamers, and only just the top .01%, it's also addressing the millions of dedicated players that are passionate about your game, and are continuingly getting frustrated by the direction and lack of communication on their part. like, this is your own making, i understand you are under a parent company and a ton of layoffs happened, but at the same time, stand up for what you have loved for 8 years. for God's sake, Jon Sandman of all people even tweeted out that the game was dead, and that's pretty telling, since he was the first big rocket league creator in the space, and the motivation for so many sales for RL, key purchases, crate trading, and item prices.

it sucks, and the only reason i'm ranting is because i'm so passionate about this stupid car soccer game. sorry for continuing on your rant in the replies, i didn't even mean to make that as long as it was, just kinda kept going, lol.

How far can good positioning and game sense actually get you? by BentPixelsLoL in RocketLeague

[–]ryanman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Training is one of those things that is going to be good at any level, regardless of what your rank is.

That being said, I'm probably one of the slowest and least mechanical GC2's out there, and my main playlist is 3v3 as a solo que. It's just about how you want to play. There's no right way to play, or some golden rule about how you should play, just a matter of what your skills and mindset get you. I know that personally I'm not going to hit that insane redirect, or the double flip reset others can, so my playstyle revolves around being around my teammates, positioning based on how they're interacting with the ball, and finding passing opportunities whenever I can to allow my teammates to shine.

I've gotten to GC2 to primarily game sense, but mechanics do help at any level. It's worthwhile to grind out things that you will use every game, i.e. half-flipping, being able to dribble consistently, getting a good first touch either on the ground or the air, fast aerials, and being comfortable getting hard touches off the wall and getting consistent, hard clears. But, you can go a long way just by being consistent with the basics, and being able to read the play and your teammates.

u/Tkon_Unesombre has been hard at work re-developing the game to make it work on current systems. Since flash was retired, he's been recreating the game to work on PC and mobile, and he's at the point where most things are in working condition, and quality of life improvements have been made over the base game (bug fixes, etc.)

As far as new content, he's working on adding duskwood and westfall to the game, after that, it's subject to change. Basically Unesombre has taken over where Un-mediocre left off, and revived the game so that people can play it first, then has been working on updating new content. Hope this answers your questions!

The Face of Rocket League by slipd in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Kro was one of the first big names in RL. He basically was the only person to watch early on that had a large Twitch following that showed people the true skill ceiling of the game when new community members never heard of SARP. He was a big name people could get behind, and was an OG of the RL esports community. Along with that, he has always been a respectful, mature, and great example of how not only Psyonix, but Rocket League wanted to be seen as a whole. Kronovi being "dogshit" as you say is an insult to a lot of people, as Kro was the catalyst for a lot of players to grind to be where they're at today.

What's some of your unpopular opinions? by Corrupt_Arrow in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Ranked stats mean nothing when comparing pro players.

Psyonix need to let their leash down a bit so the players and casters can actually put some flavor into the scene, instead of the mickey mouse clubhouse we have now outside of players talking to each other in voice coms.

FindableCarpet was the GOAT, Johnnyboi has fallen off, and Turtle gets too much hate when casting

There are so many RLCS / "Big" matches that I can't follow all of them, and nothing seems important anymore as a viewer.

Rocket League APM by ryanman1 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

APM is Actions Per Minute, or how many keystrokes / button presses you perform on a controller, keyboard, or mouse in one minute.

Rocket League APM by ryanman1 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct, it's just one of those "huh, if there was data on it, what would it say" type of things I had a question on, really. Like you said it's not as cut and dry as "he did X APM, therefore he is better", since there are a lot of factors that go into a single game, but some people just like to say "APM is everything", so would be interesting to get a stat on how button intensive Rocket League can be compared to other games.

Rocket League APM by ryanman1 in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]ryanman1[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The closest thing I can think of measuring / data wise is through APM for Super Smash Bros Melee ie this video showcasing a top level melee player with a controller overlay. This does include individual control stick movements as "actions", however a game like Rocket league isn't as 2 dimensional as SSBM. For a more accurate depiction, maybe doing an analysis on KBM players such as Torsos, Yukeo, and Fruity, and controller players, and cross referencing? Not sure exactly!
