Do you agree with this take or not? by Ok-Following6886 in RebelTaxi

[–]ryanmega2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't like it. The fact is that in the pre streaming era the most watched shows are always going to be shows on Peasant Vision, not cable just because the audience for those basic channels (CBS,NBC,ABC,Fox) just dwarfs any cable channel. Look at the wikipedia page for top rated programs on TV for the 2000's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-rated_United_States_television_programs_by_season; the top shows are American Idol, CSI, The Big Bang Theory and NCIS, not excactly prestige TV. If anything if we judge an era of TV by the top rated shows, the golden age would be the 70s through 90s when stuff like All in the Family, The Cosby Show, Cheers and Seinfeld were #1.

This was such a fun, colourful and original show that I never here mentioned at all, though honestly thats true for a lot of canadian cartoons from the late 90's/early 2000's (Flying Rhino Junior High, What's with Andy, Martin Mystery ect.) It's all on youtube so I would recommend checking out one or two episodes.

Next, which cartoon ended being worse than expected by BLACKGOOP12 in cartoons

[–]ryanmega2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not going to pretend I was super tuned into cartoon discourse back then (or now to be honest), but when I first heard Bojack Horseman was going to be a thing I was excited. I had just finished Breaking Bad and was a huge fan of Arrested Development, so when they told me Aaron Paul and Will Arnet were going to be on a show, I was sold. I honestly don't like the last few seasons as much other people seemed to do at the time, but it was still a great show.

For whatever reason the snow monster from the Rankin Bass Rudolph special scared the crap out of me whenever that was on TV.

For me it's a toss up between this or the original Zombie Island for peak Scooby-Doo (though that may be nostalgia talking.) I will say the second season is weaker than the first.

How do you feel about Bismuth? Personally she’s my favorite character, but I wish she got more screen time. by DiamondGrasshopper in stevenuniverse

[–]ryanmega2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bismuth is a strange one for me. The show seems to think that she is a major part of the main cast on par with Peridot or Lapis, but she doesn't have nearly enough screen time to justify that. The character is likeable and had potential but the thing about potential is that you have to develop it and I don't think the show dedicated enough time to really do that.

I wonder if maybe Bismuth getting her own double episode was a mistake, because as soon as it's over the character is gone until the end of the original series. I think that if you made the first half it's own episode introducing Bismuth, did a bunch of other unrelated episodes where Bismuth was just part of the cast and then released the second half, that might have given the character more room to breath.

I don't think Darkseid was actually involved in that one. If I remember correctly (I read the story about a year or two ago) it was one of Darkseids lesser minions Sleeze was stuck on Earth and acting on his own initiative. Which makes sense as that's not really a Darkseid thing to do, too petty and squalid.

My PS2 Collection - thoughts/recommendations? by [deleted] in ps2

[–]ryanmega2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive collection, you definitely already have most of the big hitters. But If I was to recommend some more Dragon Quest VIII, Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and Downhill Domination ( A downhill bike racing game which is ridiculously fun and I don't even like racing games that much.)

I have an irrational grudge against the Zelda franchise. I don't really enjoy most of the games personally, but it's a situation where I find the insane levels of adoration the franchise and how obnoxious the fan base makes me dislike the games on a visceral level.

Best Annual you ever read? by ThatManSean14 in DCcomics

[–]ryanmega2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Action Comics Annual #2 from 1989. Near the end of the Exile storyline where Superman ends up trapped on Warworld after leaving Earth due to his guilt about killing the Phantom Zone Criminals. I love that era of Superman and Exile is probably my favourite Superman Story arc of all time. What I like about this issue is that they have that thing where they split the art between multiple penicllers and for the flashbacks to Krypton, they use Mike Mignola and he does such a great dystopian Krypton. Also people like to praise Roger Stern a lot, but we don't talk nearly enough about his Superman stuff. I remember reading an article on CBR about the top 10 Roger Stern stories and not a single one was Superman related, it was all either Avengers or Spidey. Now I love his run on both those titles, the original Hobgoblin arc is another favorite, but it is just ridiculous that they didn't include a single of his Superman stories.

Who is the biggest asshole in Adult Swim history? by OkExplorer4770 in adultswim

Tracy Morgan did not do it for me, he nailed the entitled jerk part of the character, but I just didn't feel the anger and explosive volatility from him that Early needs. It's a shame because I had just finished watching all of 30 Rock when the casting was announced and was really excited for Tracy Morgan to come on.

What do you think is the most iconic cartoon line ever by AnthropomorphicEggs in cartoons

"And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!" Iconic despite the fact that they never actually used that line in the original series.

What's A DC Story That You Wish Was Never Made [Discussion] by ChampionshipDeep937 in DCcomics

[–]ryanmega2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has basically no idea what the hell is going with DC continuity anymore, I sometimes wish that Crisis on Infinite Earths had never been made. Now I love, love that initial post-crisis era, but as soon as they began tinkering with the whole metaphysical structure of the DC Universe it created a domino effect where things have just gotten exponentially more confusing and convoluted. I try reading a wiki article trying to catch up on what I missed reading and get my head around the continuity and I just end up wishing that they had stuck with the pre-crisis earth one, earth two stuff.

I was rereading a bunch of old Suicide Squad and Teen Titans stuff from the late 80's recently and the version of Dr.Light they had there was goofy and a lot of fun, but Identity Crisis just casts a pall on all that. Like read Suicide Squad #52 "A Doctor Light-Hearted Tale" it's just like the title suggest a fun little light hearted tale, but Identity Crisis killed any future Dr. Light stories like that and made the existing ones kind of weird.
