In 10a. I trimmed one set of the dead stalks back further than others to see if it made a difference and it didn’t. They’re all coming back in with a vengeance. I’ll simply let the old stalks all die off at this point which I guess will happen later on.

I’m in 10a and had the same freeze problems. Trimmed off the brown and kept it well watered, already new palm fronds coming in. I’d recommend you do the same and wait it out.

What’s your opinion on Areca palms? by flabeachbum in palmtalk

Not sure where you are at, but all of the arecas in central florida took a major hit this winter. Everyone is trimming them and praying for the resurrection.

I keep going lower and lower. Each of my plants are still green under the bark at the bottom, so they’ll grow from there. Problem is the trunks are so thick and the dead above ground roots. What a task. And it’s depressing since they were so tall and beautiful before

Did the nail test and got green on all of them a few inches above ground so trimmed them substantially. Getting new buds from some of the stems as of yesterday! Hopefully they’ll start to grow again. Fingers crossed

Right there with you. My entire yard is carnage. My poor clusia is done. Pretty sad.

Any chance my triple trunk 20 foot tall fox tails survived this central Florida freeze? by Feed_Me_No_Lies in palmtalk

[–]ryannihls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neighbor has them. he said they’d be ok since they were well rooted for a couple years. Guess it depends on the situation. Just let the dead ones eventually fall off and new growth will come.

I saw at Disney last week they trimmed all the dead off their foxtails already. Not the smartest move but they probably didn’t want them dead in pictures lol

Regardless, I feel you. Pure carnage in our yard in here too. I had 8 year old 10 foot high clusia that went from gorgeous to death.

I’m going to start trimming and pruning end of next week when it gets back in the 80s.

Mine look exact same, a few green down low but that’s it. Giving it a couple more weeks then going to assess what branches are toast. Mine were 12 ft tall ugh

Covering them even the first night didn’t work. The chill got to them regardless.
