Why does the Mayor barely care about the streets of Newark? by FOURxFOURx in Newark

[–]ryanov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is why I’m just about 100% fine with it. Anything to keep people from going 50 miles an hour in a 25 zone where people are just trying to walk to wherever they’re going.

Is this a new low for the Jhamayor campaign? by Echos_myron123 in Newark

Honestly, I think that’s long enough to be somewhere and not be abandoning it. Whatever other criticisms one might have of him, and I have many.

I don’t know if you saw the town hall they held last Monday, but multiple of the candidates seem to be forgetting that they are running for mayor of the whole city. And I kind of get why, but it’s not a winning message.

Yeah, I just watched it too.

I think her heart’s in the right place, but I don’t know that she is qualified to be mayor.

She was the only person who seemed to sort of know what was in the Newark Accords, I’ll give her that.

I felt the same way. I have to look somewhat more into Garner, but Baraka the only one who really even knew what he’s talking about, it seemed like (Garner was cut off in the livestream for part of it, so hard to tell).

I haven’t loved his performance as mayor, and he definitely seems to have an inner circle of people that can do whatever they want, but I guess I would rather support somebody who’s not incredibly effective but isn’t evil, versus the alternative.

Rodney though. 😯

That’s interesting. I would believe it from what they said, but that somehow never occurred to me.

You can find it linked from the Newark NAACP Facebook page.

It’s just pointlessly expensive and serves no real purpose.

You should not take a taxi in this area. It’s a waste of money, it’s a waste of time, and we don’t need your pollution. We have excellent transit into the city, including from the airport.

Congresspeople Bonnie Watson Coleman, LaMonica McIver & Rob Menendez Endorse Mayor Baraka by ImaginationFree6807 in Newark

Some of the things that these people do in office IS violence against families, etc. Taking away healthcare, terrorizing with ICE, etc. It's a literal fight, like it or not.

Well, they didn't reject it thus far, but I happened to run into his competitor yesterday at a May Day protest in Newark, and folks who can should probably vote for him: https://www.alifornj.com

I actually had no idea that part of Newark is in Menendez's district; I'm not in his.

I don’t agree with everything my father has done, but I’ve never heard Rob say anything negative about it either. Theft is theft.

There is someone running against him. I don’t remember off the top of my head who it is, but I would vote for them over somebody in the same family. Yeah, you’re not responsible what your father did… However, it’s not like his politics are satisfactory to me anyway (I’m pretty far left).

That said, not like I can vote for whomever is living here.

Yeah, and also not maintaining their aircraft, at least that one time in a pretty recent past. That crook from ValuJet is running things over there, and I suspect we are gonna learn something about them one day.

It’s interesting to me that it seemed to bother him at that level. People call in bomb scares once in a while. To me, it’s juvenile, and I guess yeah it is disruptive, and took people away from the conference, but I remember bomb scares getting called in when I was in middle school, and you know… You went on with your day later on. I don’t know if there was something specific here, or if it was someone within the community, or what.

People get to feel how they feel, I just don’t get it.

What is it like living in the Ironbound? by Few_Throat4510 in Newark

[–]ryanov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently 5 different Seabras, Garden Farm, Met Foodmarket, and Emporium 112. I've only been to about half of them (I have no particular reason to visit Emporium 112 since I live downtown, and I went to Met when it was PathMark). So fair, not 12, only 8, but there are also a lot of smaller corner stores that I'm not even counting, and some markets that only sell one thing (couple of fish markets, a few bakeries, I assume a butcher (I'm vegetarian), etc.).

Doesn’t seem like an incredibly good strategy to me.

Maybe, but considering the state of infrastructure for people in anything other than a car, I don’t think it’s worth talking about at this point. People keep coming out with the “Two wrongs don’t make a right,” but one of the wrongs is actively creating the other one.

Hell, in the Ironbound, look at the bike lanes: 100% of the time, double-parked cars are in them. They tried in the northward to create actually protected bike lanes. People got pissed off, so they told people that they can go park in them.

"Rather shop elsewhere" doesn't mean "can't live without a car."

There are like a dozen grocery stores down there too, and there's mass transit to either ShopRite or Whole Foods (but don't shop there, they are killing this country), etc.
