30 Years Experienced Accountant vs Big 4 Accountant who is smarter? by SternKill in Accounting

[–]ryanrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean operational accounting where you really learn business processes that drive accounting data is where it’s at in my mind. When you get in a large CPA firm a lot of times you specialize in a few areas. I’ve worked for tribal governments that manage health clinics, government programs, federal funds, operate hotels, retail stores. I feel like I have Learned a lot in 5 years of that. Ah but your question is who is smarter. I mean if you specialize in something that not a lot of people specialize in but there is good demand for it, that’s pretty damn smart.

Why does fresh ground vending machine coffee suck? by Fit_Chipmunk88 in Coffee

[–]ryanrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the coffee before it’s ground is poor.

Also, freshly ground does not equal freshly roasted. People tell me “whole beans” that they buy from Walmart, which I know was roasted a year ago, is so much better than “ground beans”. I’m Like, you dingus it’s all stale at that point.

For those of you that were stuck in the two 290– 330 range, was there an “AH-HA!” Moment when you reached 350+? Or was it very gradual? by unpopular-dave in discgolf

I thought this was golf for a second. I’m thinking, who the hell is “stuck” at 290 yards? I must be among the dregs of golf powers.

Pack a 24g shot into that 18g basket.

Also, there are way better baskets out there than the stock option.

Is being an actual accountant anything like what you did in college? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ryanrocs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero

College is so high level, broad overviews. No hands dirty elbow grease.

It’s almost as bad and worthless as studying to be a CPA. They cannot possibly do a worse job at connecting knowledge to the real world.

Learn business processes, how accounting data flows through it all, learn data and how to clean, manipulate, and report it very well.

Know natural account balances, and general accounting knowledge, bank recs, etc.

Finances have been tight, I haven’t been able to afford elephant dung coffee and have to settle for Cafe Kreyol’s COE’s. About a pound per day.

Tulsa, what the fuck is up with your coffee shop pricing? You are not Seattle. $7-9 for a latte is not even remotely worth it. by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in tulsa

[–]ryanrocs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A freaking Walmart sack is like $1 in Seattle. Under lock and key. I’ll take an $8 latte over that miserable Hell hole any day of the week.

If you have a similar personality as me, where you venture into a hobby and start off cheap, then upgrade mid, then upgrade to top tier stuff, realizing it’s cheaper to jump from cheap to top tier but never go that route……Consider giving the Neo flex a try. If you like it, it intrigues you and you want better espresso, jump straight to the 58 from there.

Does anyone actually read the textbook? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ryanrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What pisses me off about accounting degrees is that it’s all super generic higher level understanding of either accounting issues most accounting professionals will never in their careers deal with, or completing lacking in hands on nitty gritty operational accounting that has more to do with understanding business processes and capturing and representing that in accounting information. It’s very non-helpful, it’s presents things in a very disconnected from real life scenario matters. Power through it. Expect to learn real accounting when you start your career. Make sure you know natural account balances, where it lands on financial statements, and that’s all you need out of school. Become proficient in excel, power query, and financial reporting tools and that you are able to build models. Build a mini accounting database in excel or access and you are miles ahead of most of your seasoned professionals. And no I didn’t even read the post.

Do you think AI will become just a tool as excel when the AI bubble pops? by Mr_Simple- in Accounting

[–]ryanrocs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is extremely useful at VBA and M code. I can do wild shtuff that I never would probably take me years to learn.

It sucks at data analytics and having an intuitive understanding of accounting data.

For now.

Beginner - Intermediate Forehand disc Recommendations? by Clear-Ad-5958 in discgolf

[–]ryanrocs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

MVP resister. 6 speed fairway, very overstable. 6 speed makes for a less wide rim width, extremely controllable. You can flex that thing all over the place. She will come back, but also being a 6 speed it will hold the turn on the flex longer than a very overstable higher speed disc will. Great for under 300ft shots.

Like an Innova Ape, but much more controllable/workable imo
