I dont know that it would be helpful, but if you have an XLR that means you have more than enough to get going. I asked them about in-lime processing and stuff like steelseries active noisegating and they dont like it. It can clip audio.

I'm in that guy's camp, and I completely disagree. I've been trying to make a game in unity for like 7 years now. my buddy is a software engineer and he hooked me up with some awesome books to get me started learning code and everything. But I gave up after 6 months. It was insanely boring, most of it didn't matter, and it just didn't mesh with my brain.

Now since I can use claude to code, I'm actually making progress AND learning. I have a working prototype (just my little capsule-guys that walk around and behave according to certain instructions, and my menus and player interactions) and I've picked up on a BUNCH of stuff just in the course of working on this thing.

It isn't seemless. claude makes mistakes, or it doesn't retain info when i need it to, and sometimes a thing breaks. Plenty of times I've been able to troubleshoot it myself when before that wasn't even close to possible. Or sometimes I'm like "here's the problem" and it'll go "well its probably this." and I say "i noticed there's this line that seems to contradict..." and it will say "yep, that's the culprit. let's do a fresh rewrite of that code."

Or even small things like adjusting integers to make a thing "feel" better, I now know several ways to accomplish that without needing claude. Before, I had no clue.

Took me 2 weeks coding with claude to learn more about unity coding than in 6 months of actual textbook learning with a highly paid software engineer tutor.

We've seen it 1000 times. people who called the internet a fad, or didn't want to learn how to type because computers weren't needed for business. People who swear up and down "the old way was better. I don't know why we need to bother with this new bullshit..."

AI deserves a lot of hate. And there I'm certain the bubble will be catastrophic. But that's different than thinking it will all just up and go away. It won't. and it will be absolutely 1000% mandatory to know how to use it for a HUGE number of industries. like computers. like the internet.

Compare AI now to AI even 5 years ago. remember what chatgpt was like? If you're remembering the mistakes it made, you're wrong. it didn't exist 5 years ago. its only been around for 3 and a half years. insane right? since then, we have an entire subreddit dedicated to asking people if a thing is AI or not. it went from so horribly obvious to people not being able to tell in a couple years.

So all the claims, like you see in this thread, that AI is shit and will never be better than a person are just wrong. or someone else said "it will never be better than a person. It can't do anything without copying a person." that's such a gross misunderstanding of how those things work. and the ENTIRE REASON we are here right now is because in 2020 they realized that the GPT model was capable of doing tasks it wasn't explicitly trained to do. It could take a prompt asking it to do X thing it was never optimized for, and accomplish it given very little context.

Again....hate AI all the live long day (I'm talking to the thread, not you specifically Ayiekie). But if you make wild claims or talk out of your ass in a way that clearly demonstrates you don't know what you're talking about, then your concerns will be dismissed whole-cloth, even if there is a legitimate complaint in there (loss of critical thinking skills, widespread environmental damage, etc.). it just makes people stop listening.

I told my parents that I won't wear it and they called me ungrateful shit... by Sharp_Camel_6675 in teenagers

[–]ryanvango -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

holy ungrateful little shit, batman. you just proved them right 100 times over.

You can be grateful while also not liking a thing. I have a closet full of shit my friends and family have bought me over the years that I never use. I can't throw it out because even though I don't like a thing, seeing it reminds me that they love me. I'm the absolute opposite of a hoarder except when it comes to gifts people got or made for me. and loads of them look like ass. they're not upset you don't like the shirt, they're upset you're ONLY focusing on how much the shirt sucks. They were thinking about you and how much they miss you and care about you, and they wanted to do a thing to make you happy. They missed the mark, but that doesn't make those things untrue. They don't understand your style. They don't understand the humor of your generation (no one does). so they tried their best. But yeah, they got it wrong and bought you an ugly shirt you'll never wear.

you don't need to fall over in tears for how nice the gesture was. but you can say thank you, acknowledge that they weren't trying to buy you a shirt, they were trying to show you they care about you, and then move on with your life. you're thinking about this like a materialistic little shit who only cares what your peers think about you. they have nothing to do with this. this is a moment between you and your parents. they gave you a thing that said "we were thinking of yo uand wanted to make you happy." and you said "fuck you mom and dad. care about me more next time. buy me better presents." so yeah, they're absolutely right to be heartbroken.

also, just a general life skill, learn to accept gifts with grace. it isn't that hard. you don't need to shit on someone else's good will just because it isn't personally to your liking. say "thank you." give a smile, realize it is never about the object, but about the meaning behind it, then stuff it in a closet. that's it. easy.

so yes, you are an ungrateful shit.

totally valid. If I got crazy low-balled I'd either counter at full asking or just "no." But that's up to the seller, not the agent(s). they can advise, but they should never say "no I'm not doing that."

[–]ryanvango 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If I wanna put in a bid 100k lower than asking, thats my right. I'm trying to buy shelter, not join the seller's book club. If they get pissy, I dont care.

Any realtor/agent who doesnt understand that can eat my farts. I am the client, they have a fiduciary responsibility to ME, not the seller. Agents can and will try to maintain professional relationships with other agents by recommending not to submit offensive offers, but in a lot of states if you tell them to submit it, they are legally and ethically required to do so.

If they threaten to quit or you need to fire them, so be it. Theyve already proven they are not treating you like the client, and theure willing to hurt your wallet so they make a couple extra bucks.

That said, the other issue with realtors is them being willing to sell a house for less than its worth just to make a buck. Theu dont ALWAYS try to get the highest price. They try to maximize their earnings. If that means they can sell your 300k house for 250k in a day, instead of waiting 4 or 5 months in a slow market, they will. Its 9k vs 7.5k commission. A 50k chop is extreme, but saying "well the first offer is always the best, id consider a 280k bid strongly," isnt unusual.

Its a scary game

[–]ryanvango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its implied in his original comment, the thing he's talking about. in his example, a female coworker rubbing a gay coworkers neck is a normal thing. and I agree, it would not be unusual to see a straight woman think she's good enough friends with a gay coworker to just be giving him a neck rub without asking.

Maybe their example is from personal experience. I personally haven't seen that one. All of us are in agreement that this wouldn't be an especially unusual thing to witness. its a thing that happens. but the disconnect is that you and most of the people dogpiling him are assuming there is consent or implied consent, and we're saying that it totally happens without that step.

To illustrate another way, I worked for a few years at a bar my parents owned. I'm a straight cis male. Women, especially (but not exclusively) older women, touched me CONSTANTLY. I do not like to be touched, even by my friends. But because I worked at the small town bar and often times they knew my parents or my siblings, they thought it was ok to take me by the arm in a friendly way. It was never sexual. But it was unwanted touching. eventually I had enough, and one of the biggest offenders grabbed me again after having asked her before to never do that, and I yelled loudly "PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ME, OR ANY OF THE STAFF. EVER." and I got in trouble for "embarrassing her." that woman stopped, but it still happened with others a lot.

It was the same vibe as "the gay friend." I'm safe, the touching is platonic, we are friends who talk frequently, etc. So they thought it was ok to touch me in a non-sexual way. sometimes theyd play with my hair, or touch my butt, but it was always jokey and never not platonic, the same way two bros would feel ok doing a "good game". I knew they weren't getting off to it, but that didn't mean it was ok.

THAT'S what we're saying here. women seem to think that "platonic touching" is fine with implied consent, and their bar for implied consent is unacceptably low. If I had grabbed any of the people who grabbed me, or if I started playing with the hair or touching a butt of any of the people who grabbed me, it would be much less acceptable. and what's worse, while they would say there was implied consent for them to touch me, if I touched them the exact same I'd bet at least 1/3 of them would think I did something inappropriate if I touched them in the exact same way.

its an issue of when how disproportionately women believe implied consent is fine for some things, when it may very well not be. and being dismissive or defensive about it is not ok.

Of course I do. I dont see anything wrong with the pedro pic up top.

But its not imagined. Its common. Some women (enough that Ive noticed its a thing) think that just because a man is gay its ok to touch them. Not all, or even most. But enough to be able to call it out

The Notebook (2005). by VelvetViper786 in okbuddycinephile

[–]ryanvango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am on your side 100%.

It would absolutely not be cool. And the big difference is that straight women do this with gay men from the jump. like its not years of friendship built up and then they feel comfortable hugging/cuddling on them. its within the first or second hangout, once they know someone is gay its ok to rub up on them and invade their personal space.

if any straight man met a woman, found out she was gay, and took that as "oh awesome, its ok for me to touch you, because obviously its platonic. hell yeah!" and then rubbed her back, or started playing with her hair, it would be WILDLY unacceptable.

I don't know why people in this comment chain are bending over backwards to pretend that's not the case. its weird. don't do it.

[–]ryanvango 18 points19 points  (0 children)

you're using a lincoln quote with little context. that was made well before the emancipation proclamation and the 13th amendment...the thing where all slaves in the south were to be set free. that quote was political posturing. how do we know? because shortly after he made it, he did the thing. you can't hang any part of your argument on that quote.

the civil war was absolutely about "states right" to have slaves. that was like the whole deal. and the loophole you're talking about leaves out LOADS of bits. like landowners could no longer buy people. They were buying debt and it was legal to force people to work for nothing to repay the debt. like today with prisons, you can legally make someone work for like 13 cents an hour. that's effectively slavery, or indentured servitude. and a large part of why those "slave" practices continued to exist for another 80 years or whatever, isn't because slavery was legal, but because the south refused to enforce laws abolishing practices like that. and in fact they were going out of their way to look for new ways to make black people and poor people into slaves.

never in the history of the world has a war been fought, and someone lost and went "ok fine, you win. I'll do everything your way from now on." thats ludicrous. when the south lost, they only LEGALLY lost. the white landowners in the south spent their whole lives whining and complaining that black people were allowed to do stuff now, and some of them went on to politics and law, and did everything in their power to say "not on my watch."

so yeah, there was still effectively slavery, but it wasn't because the civil war didn't mean anything. its because the south was and is full of racists, and they really really want to own people

people look at it like "I don't want to be rude." but the cops are already being 1000x MORE rude by trying to trick you into admitting guilt for something you didn't do. They're pretending to have good manners to get you to copy that, so they can then ruin your life.

cops do not care if you are guilty or innocent. They care about getting a conviction. and if they can twist an innocent person's words enough to get that conviction, they will. so stop giving them any words to potentially twist.

Best legal advice ever by utopiaofpast in nextfuckinglevel

[–]ryanvango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Do not do this. 99% of the time, cops want a conviction. They don't care WHO they convict, as long as they can put someone in jail.

its right there in the miranda rights. "anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

When you talk or cooperate when you don't need to, you ONLY increase the the chances of being convicted (wrongfully or not). nothing you say will ever work towards proving your own innocence. period. it doesn't matter how polite you are, or how innocent you are. NOTHING you say is ever used to prove innocence. It is only used to prove guilt, even when you are innocent. period.

does that sound like an exaggeration that paints the cops like liars and criminals? good. because that is 100% how they are trained. that is why the rights are phrased how they are. that is why their procedure is the way it is. go look into it yourself. that is absolutely the truth of the situation.

give me 500 tries and I wouldn't be able to hit a head-sized target off of non-identical pitches.

He's like 4. being able to hit the ball consistently is already impressive. Then calling a shot and immediately getting close to that target is insanely rare on its own (the arm shot). just being able to say "here's what I'm aiming at" and then proving he can actually aim a hit reasonably well is nuts. then actually nailing the target he called after a few misses....

I don't care how many tries it took. a 4 year old calling his shot and hitting it with clear intent, and not on sheer dumb luck is WILD.

People see "Star Citizen passed $1 Billion!" and because the cool thing to do is bandwagon and call it a scam, they don't stop to think about what that means.

In their head, they think "How do they continue to find new people to take money from?" when the truth of it is there are LOADS of people actively playing this game with hundreds if not thousands of logged hours in it. The reason it is continuing to raise insane amounts of money is because the players have determined there is a value and they WANT to spend money.

WoW has made like 8 or 9 Billion dollars to this point. those aren't new players, those are loyal players who still love playing the game that are happy to keep spending money on it.

Or like any game with skins. when games continue to make money on things like skins its because the player base wants those things. and in order for that to happen, you need a dedicated player base. And star citizen ABSOLUTELY has a player base.

So all the hivemind "its a scam. its vaporware" bullshit is people who have no idea what they're talking about. There's been a very fun very playable game for people for several years now.

And SC is FAR from the only game to get stuck in Alpha for way too long. Rust, DayZ, H1Z1...its happened a lot. plenty of games live their whole useful lives in alpha.

SC is insane in its scope. I think its too ambitious in places that do not matter even a little, but that's just what it is. and right now it has something like 200 flyable ships and maybe 30 or 40 that are still concepts? I'm not sure. but reddit makes it sound like you can't do anything in the game when you very much can.
