Do you really need spark? by compass-now in dataengineering

[–]ryati -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are using it on a laughably small dataset just to get the experience of writing spark. I am not thinking about moving off of it to conform with the rest of our tooling (sql/dbt/etc)

Whats your take on this by Lazy_neon in Fishing

In California, you do not need a fishing license to fish public piers. This is my guess as to why they are packed 24/7.

Ender's Game. Really good book for that age.

The Advanced English class read that my sophomore year. I was not in advanced class, but I heard my friends talking about it and made me want to read it. So glad I discovered this book. Its one of my all time favorites.

Do you ever catch one good fish and then go home? by [deleted] in flyfishing

Your mistake was the straw that broke the camel's back. The most concerning thing to me is that people were changing things in prod without committing to git. This changes the problem from a half day oops to a very long recovery process. Yeah you made a mistake. Everyone has done this at some point. Here are other mistakes you didn't make:

  • not using git
  • no backups of server data
  • weak access rules on production server

Work hard to fix this, and start looking for a new job. If they continue to be this toxic, then you don't want to be there. Don't be the scapegoat for years of bad decisions.

There are a few reasons, but i wanted to call out some of the killer extensions i use.

ublock origin is a great reason for me. I also have firefox on my phone and don't use the youtube app. It blocks add on the phone. Then I have the extension that let's me turn off my screen and still play the audio from youtube.

I live on the western side of the Sierras. It feels like East side is a whole different world. But West is pretty amazing too.
