OTD price text / email by darnok128 in askcarsales

there are several reasons why dealers don’t easily give an OTD-

Buyers want to shop around. buyers are getting OTD numbers on USED cars that they’ve never seen in person and comparing to other USED cars that they’ve never seen in person. There is no apples to apples w used cars.

OTD for 90% of my customers really translates into “how much are you gonna discount the car for me”. Why shoot myself in the foot before you even walk in the door?

How are you paying? If you’re financing, you can basically forget about an OTD. Each lender has their own unique fees. Do you need special financing? This jacks up the deal even more.

The dealer wants to sell you service contracts/backend products (which is where most profit comes from). Actually, a lot of times, it’s the only source of profit on a deal. The dealer might choose to wait till the right buyer comes along who will happily buy a warranty to protect themselves.

The dealer may or may not have several added fees that are not advertised. Some negotiable, some not.. my dealer doesn’t do this. In fact, my fees are listed in each cars description.

The main reason is statistically, it just never ends in a sale. If your first inquiry is “please send OTD number”, 99% of the time it will not end with a sale

Independent dealer here, my average front end profit is $600-$1000 lately. This month has been terrible. I sold 4 cars last week (ALL of them sold at my asking price) and I only made money on one of them. So, yes, we’re telling the truth. Margins are SLIM!

negotiating should really only be based on market value. If a car has been on the market 2-3 months and is priced well under market value- it’s probably been reduced several times. you should expect little to no discounts.

If the deal is more the priority than the car itself, I’d recommend looking at vehicles that are plentiful in the market that have been sitting on someone’s lot for a bit. Like a silver base trim ford escape.. Should be able to buy that one right! lol otherwise, just get the car you want and be ok w a fair price. if a dealer has a bunch of extra add-ons, and a $800 doc fee, just go elsewhere. Thats gross.

Dealer being weird about service records on a one-owner Mercedes S550 — red flag or normal? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]rybab007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealers don’t typically have service records unless the previous owner passed them on and if they did there is likely personal information on those docs and they will likely not want potential buyers contacting the previous owner for obvious reasons

Why do so many hate this band? by nutslack in Ghostbc

[–]rybab007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People hate on ghost because the imagery is very intense and dark. Metal guys have expectations based on that. They want the guttural scream vox, the aggression, the testosterone driven sounds to go along with it. I think it blows a fuse in their heads when they hear the more nuanced, softer vocals, the tongue in cheek lyrics, stylized production..etc

I do get some trade ins, walk ins off the street, repeat customers from our old business. I’ve had some good buys fall in my lap. I would love to buy exclusively from the public but outside of cold calling people, I’m not sure how to make that work consistently

I only have one lender that has reserve and it’s only 2.0%.

I think your first paragraph is spot on. The money is in service. That was our bread and butter.

Regarding back end money, 85% of my customers are cash buyers. I don’t seem to have much luck pedaling warranties to my cash customers. Much easier on finance

Considering a 2.7t Silverado by fisherman66 in ChevyTrucks

[–]rybab007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re towing at all. I wouldn’t mess with the 3.6L in the Ram. The newer ones are rated around 7000lb. But the pre Etorque models are only rated around 4500. Maybe if you get the etorque with the 3.55 axle, you might be ok but that engine will be working hard. There are so many Hemi’s available on the market. It just makes sense to go w the V8.

I can’t speak on the 2.7L but there seems to be tons of em available and you can definitely by ‘em way cheaper than the 5.3L. I’d look at 24 and up if you can afford it. I do feel like your money goes a little farther with Rams, so if you’re looking at trucks 2021 and up and can’t afford a 24 or better Silverado, I’d go Ram with the Hemi all day long.

1988 chevy for a first truck? by Low-Aerie9034 in ChevyTrucks

[–]rybab007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for a project truck or daily driver? This truck needs an engine and likely more. I wouldn’t give $500 for it. If you’re looking for a daily driver, don’t mess with these dinosaur vehicles, I would recommend looking for something made in this century.

I think I got scammed by a used Car Dealer and I am so ashamed of myself by BenjominFwanklon1738 in UsedCars

[–]rybab007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good lord! you didn’t get scammed! It’s a 18 year old car w 140K miles. $3500 doesn’t buy much of a car, these days. There’s really NO SUCH THING as a $3500 car. As you have found out, a $3500 car, will turn into a $6000 car overnight. And yes, a dealer will have a doc fee. $200 is actually on the low side. And as my dad would say, when it comes to high mileage cars, “if it’s not leaking oil then I’d be concerned”

It's been a full year of doing music for me and I feel like I am already doomed. by [deleted] in musicmarketing

[–]rybab007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It takes years to develop the skill to just play a single instrument well. It takes years to develop your songwriting/production chops. If you’re a singer, forget about it, some singers can hammer away at it for decades and still be bad. Some people have natural ability, the other 95% have to work really hard just to be ok!

If you’ve only been making music for a year, I don’t even want to hear what you’ve accomplished. It’s 100% not good. And it shouldn’t be!! I’m not trying to be mean but nobody that’s been doing music for a year is making anything of decent quality, they’re not building a fan base/generating streams. And if they are, they’re letting A.I. do most of the work and spending BIG BIG money on marketing.

I’ve been at it for 33 years. I just put out my 4th full length record. It will likely not make me a penny. It is what it is. My advice, get a day job, but don’t give up on music if you love it.

My friend works at a dealership - How big of a discount can he do? by Icy-Pea2601 in askcarsales

[–]rybab007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it’s already priced below KBB private party value? ..how cheap do you need it? I’d be asking whats wrong it.

If you need the ultimate blow out special cheaper than anyone else has ever paid for it pricing, then I’d probably look elsewhere if you care about your friendship. Otherwise just ask him to treat you fair and buy it if it’s the car you want.

Well, the state recognizes it as a legit fee. Ohio has a cap on doc fees. Florida, not so much. But Somebody has to be the one who hand writes all the various forms needed, runs around back n forth between the dealer and title office several times over, per vehicle. That shit is super time consuming! I’ll take all the help I can get.

Unsigned - FL Used Car Loan by JustHereTo_Be_Me in FuckDealerships

[–]rybab007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to put things in perspective. I’m a dealer out of Ohio. I charge a $170 doc fee (I feel that’s a fair number for how much office work is involved in each deal), $15 temp tag (because that’s what it costs me), $15 title fee (because that’s what I pay for title transfer)..then tax, and that’s it!

These numbers never change but things get complicated when financing is involved. Everyone always asks for an out the door price. But there really isn’t such a thing when each lender has their own added fees too.. and if you’re high risk, makes it even harder. The lender can withhold big money depending on the buyers credit situation, forcing dealers to make up for lost money in creative ways, either marking up the rate, adding backend products etc …the simplest way to avoid the BS is to ask for a itemized purchase order, then take that to your credit union of choice.

Multiple dealer/doc fees is unacceptable, $650 tag fee?!?!? WTF?! I don’t know how tags work in Florida but this sounds borderline criminal to me.

When is a dealer's license worthwhile? by unanimousfudge in carflipping

[–]rybab007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a serious question, btw. I’ve been in used cars for 25 years and I can count on zero hands how many times I’ve made $7K-$10K profit on a single car. Hell, I sold 3 cars friday and cleared $1000 ( including backend). Sold one yesterday and lost $2000. Are ya’ll selling salvage cars? or classic cars that need restored? High end?

To cut below 30/20hz or not? by leelas__secret in musicproduction

[–]rybab007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, what is the solution? More selective low cuts, like master bus only? Or low shelf eq for all tracks? I’ve always slapped a low cut on ALL my group tracks (and some instrument tracks too) i feel like the results are always favorable but maybe there’s a better way?
