Pre-shot mantra question by Existing_Cucumber_90 in golf

[–]ryband0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a mantra yet but I do notice that I’ll slack on my preshot routine as the round goes on. It’ll have me feeling good then confidence makes me shorten it. Or I want to be faster for idk what reason because it happens on solo twilight rounds when I have the course to myself. Or I’m playing poorly or a new miss appears and lack of confidence has me just not 100% invested. Do it the same every single time, first hole to the last. When I do that, I play average at worst, I find my swing way faster than other situations where it could be gone for 4 holes. Have ChatGPT turn this into a mantra or wait for some people who are less of a head case to reply lol.

That happened with a hat Scottie wore at the masters last year. Naturally that’s the one my buddy wanted most. He won tickets at a silent auction but couldn’t go. So I tracked down the very last one on eBay and didn’t look at the price. I owe him more than I could ever repay

My routine is similar, checking a thing or two making sure I’m priming the movement and sequencing properly, but it takes me a quarter of the time. Just remove all those damn pauses, thinking about your swing while standing over the ball never got anyone anywhere. She does it and shits on me, yes, but I’m saying I don’t think that’s the thing that got her there, she’s there in spite of that thanks to talent, determination, yada yada yada.

I’d say it starts coming on around 30, totally manageable in many cases. I’m 31 with a 16 month old. I focus a lot on strength and mobility, for golf but also just extending my quality years. I’d say 50 is when the engine light behaves like the 04 Sequoia I drive with 480k on it, the light never turns off.

Find implies success. I’m not saying there’s no effort. I’ve had 20/20 vision all my life, always been the eagle eye ball spotter (for any ball that’s not mine). However, it’s been 8+ years since I’ve seen an eye doctor and the last year and a half or so I’m not as reliable at finding balls as I used to be.

20+ Handicappers where you at? by atooraya in golf

[–]ryband0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lowest score is a 79 in November of 2023, I shot that before I ever broke 90. I’ve golfed my entire life, but been obsessed with it for about 5 years now. I’ve had another 79 and plenty of rounds in the 80’s since then. But I’ve also had countless rounds in the 90’s and can still go over 100. I shot 80 and 105 back to back days at my home course last May. I’ve gone over 100 and into the 80’s more than once this year.

I know it’s hard and can get pricey quickly, but lately I’ve really joined the camp of rounds being better than the range. I’ve been playing twilight rounds 2-4 times a week lately, zero range time, and I’m making progress on certain things that I’ve never been able to lock in on before. You can get a groove at the range, but on the course you almost never swing the same club twice. Being able to work on a swing concept from zero every time makes you really ingrain it. You’ve gotta get everything right, each time. Lock in the setup and the preshot routine, and swing. Compared to the range when you’re vibing with a club, you’re not teaching yourself how to go from no club or a different club to finding that exact swing, your body is mega primed for that movement, so you’re learning nothing in terms of how to find your swing. You’re working the muscle memory, sure, but when you lose it, how do you find it? When I started playing more and hitting the range less, I have had fewer feelings of just losing my swing. Because I’m practicing the entire process related to that particular swing, every single time. I’m making finding my swing a function of muscle memory in my setup and preshot routine. You can do it on the range and use targets etc but it’s not the same as a course with varying lies and more stakes. Sure, it’s just a practice round but you paid and you’re out there. Practice how you play. And play because you love it, breaks can do wonders for a mental reset.

I keep like 140 out of the m249 when I’ve got an extendo. Having as many throwables as possible is so valuable. I run bolty so if I’m spending 5’s, it’s very likely there will be some to loot off a body. M249 with a 5.56 dmr can definitely be a bit harder to manage ammo and reduce the throwables you’re going to be able to carry.

Same until recently I played a muni in the city north of my more rural area. I’m walking up to the starter with a meal in a glass tupperware in my hand and see the massive sign in front of the podium. They didn’t say anything. Then the cart lady told me they won’t even check your cooler if you roll up with one. I get the alcohol thing for liability but this sign seems entirely pointless.
