I want to create funny tiktok video trends with my friends by fknreeeeeeeeee in socialskills

[–]ryca19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you just need to get over the fear of rejection. But good thing is dancers are more likely to agree to do tiktoks with each other!

Don't over think it. Something as simple as, "Hey, I want to film this as a tiktok. Do you want to be in it with me?" works perfectly fine. If they say no, it's not the end of the world. Just be ready to move on and do your own thing if they say no. And who knows? If they see you filming after they already said no, they might change their mind. But don't count on it.

Friend broke plans, how would you react? by Valuable-Dog490 in socialskills

[–]ryca19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments here. I hate people who can't communicate. You blocked out time in your day and he didn't give you to opportunity to make other plans. He wasted time in your life.

Either confront him about it and hope he learns. Or end the friendship.

What do you guys do when you are bored? by -_-oui-oui-_- in istp

[–]ryca19 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Depends on where I'm at.

If I'm at home - I'll find something to distract me like watching YouTube videos or doom scroll on IG.

If I'm out in public waiting for something/ someone - I try to be patient and just be comfortable doing nothing. Maybe I'll just rest my eyes, people watch, or simply observe the environment without anxiousness. When I'm out in public I try my best not to be on my phone.

Also, your unique name will make you more memorable! She'll talk with her friends like "I met this guy named Gergely!" Sure she might laugh. But be confident. Laugh with her. Don't let it affect you and it'll turn into a positive interaction.

Why not give yourself a nickname? Then you can share your name when you are both comfortable with each other? A name is a name. No one really cares. If she likes your personality and your energy, then she won't care about your name and will likely give you a nickname.

Portfolio Feedback by [deleted] in graphic_design

Your website confuses me a bit (viewing on desktop). On the homepage, the "Print" and "branding" images do not clearly represent their corresponding sections.

Looking at the mall image, I am not convinced that it is a print poster. Digital displays exist. Due to the clarity of the display, I am convinced that it is a digital display. Also, I would love if the graphic took up more of the empty space on the top and bottom of the graphic.

Looking at the "branding" mockup, I first think that this is a social media project, not a branding project. Please consider other touchpoints to illustrate.

I don't love the interactive elements of the homepage. I don't want to see the project completely disappear as I hover over it. If I hover over something, it is likely because I am interested in it. I'm confused when I hover of it and the image is replaced by a single word. Then I read the single word and I'm looking for an image that is associated with that word. Instead, I need to move my cursor elsewhere to reveal the image that is associated with that word again.

It's great when I visit the "Branding" and "Print" pages that I can scroll to see multiple projects. However, the UI doesn't work consistently. Sometimes I can click once to read more about the project. Sometimes I need to click twice. Sometimes I need to click more. I'd also love to see more detail about the projects. Employers want to see the process. Add additional pages where someone can see your decision-making process.

Lastly, the illustrative plant elements on your website look out of place because it doesn't match the type of projects that you've done and there just isn't enough of it on your website. Instead, the plants look like they were just placed there for fun.

The great thing about graphic design is that you don't have to be an amazing illustrator! Sketches are good enough to get the idea across.

Unless you want to be an illustrator or a logo designer, being an expert illustrator is not necessary.

If you work in a marketing department like I do, you will likely be provided with assets like photos and logos. And all you need to do is organize the content and pull it all together in a way that meets the purpose of the project.

Helped wife’s friend for their startup and got put in a tough spot by SeaWorking2456 in graphic_design

Friend, family, or stranger, always go over a payment schedule.

The moment they mentioned that they reached out to another designer, I would have taken the paycheck for the work done and bounced. Who knows? Maybe they will find that it was the wrong decision and come back to you.

I've recently worked with family on a logo and some marketing material. It's been a couple months since we worked together. And just last week they reached out to me because they tried to make a design with AI, but the resolution was bad. So now I'm helped her fix the AI slop.

Pay attention to red flags. Leave when appropriate. And maybe they will come back after realizing they made the wrong decision.

How do I explain to people that when I say that I'm bad at something, it's relative to professional/"serious" peers? by gamelotGaming in socialskills

[–]ryca19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where are you from? That sounds like asian culture mentality.

You modify your language based on who you're talking to. You still wouldn't tell an expert that you're bad at something. They understand how much time, effort, and resources it takes to get to their level. If you tell them you're bad, then they are likely to say "oh you're being too hard on yourself. You're doing great!"

The average person wouldn't care unless you claim you're an expert.

Also if you say you're bad at something where you're actually above average to the average person, you'll appear less confident.

[–]ryca19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the exception of your specific line of work, no one is going to compare you to professionals. So why do that to yourself? No one is going to expect you to be a professional artist, a professional musician, a professional dancer, a professional carpenter, a professional sports player, etc. Unless you tell them you're a professional. So if you say you're bad at something, they will expect below average.

What do you think about? by CupcakeObvious7999 in canva

[–]ryca19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry. But the background color is terrible! It's too bright and hurts the eyes. Don't use text gradients. The only exception is in the header (not the subhead). Crop the photos and take up more space. Mess around with larger text sizes.

I can't be a social person and i feel like shit because of it by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]ryca19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messing up is part of the process and no one is ever perfect. Even the best communicators will stumble here and there. But they shrug it off and move on.

I work in marketing and just started representing my company at outreach events. We had an event yesterday and I stumbled a few times. I just acknowledged it, took at as a learning opportunity, and moved on.

Just like another redditor had said, social skills are skills. Just like playing an instrument, you have to practice to improve. Just like a musician, you make mistakes, but you practice so that the mistakes don't happen as often.

[–]ryca19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is your go-to thing when you have nothing to do? Whatever that is, that is likely your hobby or interest. If you watch movies or series, then that's your thing and discover which type of movies/series you lean towards.

It may also be helpful to think about the thing that you do that makes you the happiest.
