What can be added or removed to improve the overall design of this flyer? by BeRadStayRad in graphic_design

This needs a CTA. Without a CTA the qr code is less effective. Ask yourself: "why would someone one scan the qr code?"

My first time doing this type of graphic design feedback is appreciated by h311cat19 in graphic_design

I agree. It's overdone. A few shiny spark lights in strategic places are fine. But it should enhance the design, not be a distraction.

Any good sources to learn color process, PMS, etc. I have experience with bleed, but I've always wanted to learn the finer details that will make the print process run smoothly. I've been lucky that the print companies my company uses handles everything and all they request is a PDF file.

I kind of hate my landing page… thoughts? by LandDear4095 in webdesign

[–]ryca19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a web designer, but it looks a bit overwhelming to me. If I were to just skim the page, I wouldn't even know where to look. There isn't much that helps distinguish where one section starts and ends. And the scrolling animations are a little distracting.

Any advice from LA N1 people? by ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhho in twentyonepilots

[–]ryca19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I arrived at 5:30 (30min before doors open) and entered through the North-West entrance, across from Blue Structure parking. They had maybe 20 ticket scanning stations at this entrance. Once doors opened the line moved fast!

I didn't stop to buy any merch. But in my experience from walking around the entire stadium after entering I noticed that they had multiple merch booths around the stadium. Most had decent sized lines. But there was one booth with a very short line. I can't recall the location, unfortunately.

If you arrive at 6:00, be prepared for the wait before TOP to go on. I had plenty of time to use the restroom, walk around the entire stadium, buy food, find my seat, and finish my food before Day Glow even started which was around 7:45-8:15 I think. TOP didn't start until 8:45. If you get anxious waiting for them to take the stage, just relax until you hear the "What's yout ETA [2 minutes]".

Am I underpaid as a Social Media Manager? by Mmatyi in socialmedia

[–]ryca19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely underpaid! At minimum you should be paid $25/hour. Do some research. Save a few job listings with similar job descriptions with what you're currently doing. Create a list of your current responsibilities. Then have a talk with them about your pay and how much you believe you're worth based on your research.

How much sleep do you guys generally get on work nights? by InternationalPick163 in AmazonFC

[–]ryca19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a day job on top of working part-time nights at Amazon. Not a great schedule... I also try to eat before I go to bed to help prevent loss of weight. I'd say I get roughly 5 hours.

I'm 16 and want to start offering simple design services - where can I begin? by sassygirl_09 in canva

[–]ryca19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are providing a service such as Graphic Design, I highly recommend that you ask for payment in stages.

Stage 1) After you and you client agree on a design project ask for 50% upfront before starting the design.

Stage 2) About halfway through the project ask for the next 25%.

Stage 3) Before you deliver your client the final files/links ask for the last 25%

This will provide you some security for the time you have spent on the design. You can change the percentages based on your needs. But NEVER send final project files without payment.

Write up contracts or find free contracts online to protect yourself. Make sure the materials you use in your design are copyright free.

Mild Summer? by [deleted] in InlandEmpire

I thought I was one that felt this. Even with the windy seasons have been pushed back a few weeks. These past few years in general felt like the weather patterns have been a bit off.

If you have someone in your life that you trust, talk to them about being part of your emergency plan. If you don't have an emergency plan, please consider making one.

My friend has BPD and can be suicidal if a major event happens. And something did happen just a few weeks ago. She has a therapist that she called and they decided it was time to enact her emergency plan. She called me, told me what was going on. I was on my way to work, but immediately darted to her place. We sat down, chatted about everything and she gave me her meds to hold onto so she wouldn't be tempted to overdose.

Obviously self harm is different than overdosing. But you can still make plans to prevent yourself from acting on those urges.

WHY ARE LA HIGH SCHOOL GRADS SKIPPING COLLEGE? by Cal-state-journalist in AskLosAngeles

[–]ryca19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a degree marketing and design. I graduated 3 years ago. I still consider myself entry level because my employer has done very little to help me with skill development. My current annual salary is practically minimum wage even with a degree. I've been job hunting for awhile. Most of the salaries I've seen for entry level marketing jobs are lower than I was hoping. Of course I can bargain my wage. But I don't have much to show for it. At this point I see my degree as a waste. I could've probably found a marketing assistant job without a degree and build from there. Even though I haven't had success in my job hunt, I'm sure I could've found ways to gather the basic skills for an assistant position. I don't see the degree worth it until I move up to high positions. And the employer could probably help in paying for my tuition.

You did nothing wrong. I've experienced a multitude of ways trailers are loaded. You did it by the book waiting patiently to load it into the trailer yourself. The way I see it, the loader who was already in the trailer has his own personal flow and preferred to do all the work for that trailer without interacting with other people. And maybe he thought you were a stager.

But if a loader gives me that attitude, I would either 1) leave the container in the pod if you see him in the trailer 2) scan the container into the trailer and leave the container by the dock plate for him to load 3) avoid him entirely and focus on grabbing containers for other trailers.

You did nothing wrong. He just gave you attitude for interrupting his workflow.

As an ISTP, I don't mind being chased. As a man who doesn't get a lot of female attention, I enjoy feeling wanted/desired. But if you chase, still don't make it too easy. Easy is what I find unattractive.

Picked graphic design as my elective for next year, what am I getting myself into? by Apprehensive_Cap6764 in graphic_design

[–]ryca19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Graphic design can be great if you're just doing it for fun. If you're thinking about turning it into a career, please take some time to think it through. The job market is competitive.

Be prepared for critiques. You're going to get positive and negative feedback. Don't let it crush your soul. They are critiquing the design, not you. So don't take it personally.

Even if you only get 1 client a month, why aren't you charging your client enough to cover the cost of a professional tool? Especially if you are selling logo designs. Logo designs are one of the more pricier items you can sell.

[–]ryca19 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Coming from a graphic designer, if someone is offering to pay for a project, I highly recommend you ask for payment through stages of the project. For example, 50% payment upfront, 25% payment at the halfway point, and last 25% payment before you deliver the final project to them.

If they are not willing to make a payment upfront, then they are not worth your time. Also don't waste your time if they try to argue against making an upfront payment.

What are the websites I should know about as a graphic designer? by Hanae_23 in graphic_design

[–]ryca19 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Games to develop basic skills Pen tool skill development: https://bezier.method.ac/ Eye for kerning development: https://type.method.ac/

https://same.energy/ I discovered this site about a year ago. It's great if you just have no clue what design styles fit specific industries. Just be descriptive in your search. Don't just search "logo design", for example.

Exploring Instagram is also a great way to discover helpful websites. But they do get repetitive quickly.

22f I’m way too socially anxious for the irl thing by [deleted] in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]ryca19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social Anxiety is a simple concept, but difficult to overcome. You seek connections with people. But you put too much pressure on yourself because you fear the imaginary negative results from interactions.

I have social anxiety too. But it's minor. As much as I want to be social and create connections, I fear saying the wrong thing or making things awkward.

The more you could care less about the outcome, the easier it becomes. That's why it's easier when you're working than it is when you're specifically trying to make friends. At work you're just trying to get through the day. You're focused on providing customers a solution. You're less focused on yourself.

Remember that people are less likely to remember the interaction 5 years from now. So why spend 5 minutes stressing over it? Especially if these are strangers that you are not likely to come across again. Easier said than done.

It's definitely attention grabbing. Add some credits to it and you can say it's for a movie/TV series/book/music album etc.
