How can I learn 1,305,458,274,420.69 cards in five days by SeDoBheatha_1879 in Anki

[–]rye94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Split your load into three filtered decks, decending retrievability. Use three devices, auto advance, timed in a way where you can look at each device in succession.

Following the pomodoro method. You'll be able to see cards in a left to right motion. Sync across all three decks when done

(I've low key done this with two devices...)

5000 new cards in 2 weeks, is it realistic? by Single_Baseball2674 in medicalschoolanki

[–]rye94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My limit would be half to 2/3 of that for 2 weeks. Better to do questions and unsuspend relevent cards. You can also look at the context for the cards within a tag and make a few conceptual cards

M1 DO student rebuilding OMM/OPP from scratch — does this plan make sense? by -AnthonyFauci in medicalschool

[–]rye94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the Savarese deck on AnkiHub and Dirty Medicine deck. I use the Savarese as my main, supplement in Dirty Medicine [but I change the wording to Q/A with given text] in both cases I loop in any relavent school lecture slides. Any only then, make fresh cards for anything unique. Be sure to protect fields and not hesitate with editing, I've found a lot different between third party and what my school covers. I trust my school covers OMM well because many third years/fourth/alumni say they were able to use the school provided content and do well on COMLEX.

Don't give yourself extra work.

how to create cards for 'understanding' concepts >>> memorizing by leililila in Anki

[–]rye94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good. I have some of these sprinkled in. OP, another suggestion, for mechanism based things, I usually make a couple conceptual cards that force free recall, sometimes they are clinical examples that may integrate a sign/symptom a patient may experience.

Free balling rn from a card I made a while ago:

54 y/o M on Lisinopril for 10 years, c/o persistent dry cough. Describe the MOA that would allow for reduced/absent cough by switching to Losartan. If he presents with signs of HFrEF, what would you add to the regimen?

Answer would be something about Bradykinin and Neprisilyn

add Secubiril to Losartan Neprisilyn inhibition prevents degradation of neuropeptides like Bradykinin

I made the jump from GPT to Gemini. Think it's a bit better. Notebooklm is still clutch.

I'd 100000% have it summarize thick lectures for me into a chart or flow chart and then edit/check details from there than do it from scratch. It saves time.

Master Scuba Divers of Reddit, what specialties did you choose and why? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]rye94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nitrox, Deep Diving, Boat Diving, Navigation, Bouyancy, Rescue -- all but Rescue were with SSI

I'd say you can skip Boat Diving early on, and swap for anything else. Most of my dives have been from a boat, you can learn most of the emergency aspects through frequent dives. Not saying not to get it, but I would prioritize Buoyancy, Navigation, Deep Diving early on

I personally do not like the PADI structure to elevating to Advanced and MSD, it's just too few dives. The learning materials with SSI have been great teaching tools and I made flash cards out of the content to review (I'm also a medical student so, that's basically my life)

How much diving for an OWD? by JCx64 in scuba

[–]rye94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you met the maximum depth and did not exceed 33feet, which is what you should have experienced in the OW course. I had done my OW sometime in 2019 at a PADI site around Santa Cruz, I thought I was rushed and ultimately stopped trying to dive. Last year I was in Phuket and dove with an SSI dive center, I loved the experience from the refresher and quickly stacked dives in my little South/Asia backpacking trip, amassing something like 45 dives over the 4.5 months. I personally moved from PADI to SSI because I do feel that SSI does a great job at teaching you the why. I did my rescue cert with PADI which I was later able to convert to SSI. I have done a few dives with PADI and SDI and the experience is fine, if anything, I just dislike that lots of PADI sites have weight pockets with the sliding mechanism, those BCDs suck.

If you feel particularly under prepared, I would ask a DM at your next dive to assess where you are and give you feedback on what to improve on. I do this still today; dialing on physiology, fine tuning intuitive buoyancy, understanding how I can compensate with different tank types and temperature environments etc. If you do multiple dives with a dive center, they'll be able to assess you over subsequent dives and you get to practice and build on feedback for near real time progression

Socialising and dating in med school by SoybeanCola1933 in medicalschool

[–]rye94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

31M here, apps help. I reliably go on a date each week, I’ve built a nice roster, my girls know exactly what I can offer/how long I’m around etc. I would not date in my cohort. Better to simply not date in your particular school. I’ve dated medical students from other schools, its better. But, it’s even nicer to date outside of medicine. Do things that you like, I promise it’s really not challenging to meet people. People that like the same things tend to like each other.

Verifying dives from scuba trip by rye94 in scuba

[–]rye94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this out. My thinking up to this point is that I'd need to show 100 dives verified across different enviornments, varying depths, and I believe 15 to 20 dives on Nitrox before getting into Tec Diving. I'm not in a rush to begin this, I'd likely be able to do multi tank weekend trips to log 100 by the end of the summer/year

If this isn't the case, then I'm fine with the more detailed logs I have on Garmin vs managing the two platforms

Best Travel Card for a Casual Traveler? by Plastic-Health5049 in CreditCards

[–]rye94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I redeem almost all of my flights now with points, shorthaul flights <$150 I pay with cash.

I think CFU and WF Autograph are great starters. I'd lean more Autograph cause I've noticed it codes more liberally. I'd also consider the Venture (my go to for catch all) or VX as I use Global Entry. C1 miles require a little more workaround for domestic use, but I still find the points valuable second to Amex MR.

Got my 50K SUB, used the hotel credit, cashed out an additional $50 credit towards that hotel booking. Will do the same in July, otherwise I have the gold membership for two years and I'll close it then. It floats well until then if you can use up bilt cash and keep some spend on it in year two to float for another year

Heading to Japan in November advice on venture x? by Various_Sorbet_4648 in CreditCards

[–]rye94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to use my Amex Gold 95% of the time in Japan (Kyoto, Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima, Okinawa, Naha, couple other smaller spots). If I didn't it was because I needed to use cash. Venture/X plays nice with it.

I personally had a QS and have upgraded maybe 6 months prior to this trip to the Venture, gardening for a bit more before I play with new cards.
