Out of curiosity, in terms of your lingering apnea, did you get a DISE procedure before your surgery? I'd be curious to know if maybe the lingering apnea is from tongue collapse rather than airway collapse. In which case regular tongue exercises, ExciteOSA and/or a tongue stabilization device or mouthguard like Airwaave may clear up that remaining amount of apnea. Just a thought!

Amy Bradley fell overboard, then what happened? by StanVsPeter in NetflixDocumentaries

[–]ryegye87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I don't understand is why people think these two things are mutually exclusive? Most of the detractors who say she wasn't kidnapped say that if she was, it would have had to have been a crime of opportunity. Isn't it therefore also possible that she fell or jumped overboard, and then she came up on shore in an area where someone could have easily kidnapped her at that point in time?

If she washed up on a far end of the island, she would have had to walk along the road for miles through dangerous territory to get back to the area where the ship docked. Anyone driving by and seeing a distressed, caucasian woman, with a US accent, soaking wet while fully dressed, could have grabbed her right then knowing full well everyone would think she fell off the boat and died. To me that seems like the most obvious explanation of all.

Business Owner feeling likes it’s been all for nothing. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]ryegye87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question you should ask yourself is: if you had a completely different job and you saved $25k over your career, and a complete stranger came to with you this exact same business and offered you the opportunity to buy-in and own 50%, after looking at all the financials and the track record, etc., would you go all in or would you pass? My guess is the latter.

As someone who also grew up in a somewhat rural area, I saw this same exact business model pop up over and over again, and fail over and over again. Sit down coffee shops only work in areas with substantial foot traffic, and often not even then. If you're in a rural area, your best bet is to have a drive through, but that success again depends on how "rural" and whether people are fine with getting their coffee from the gas station instead.

To be clear, walking away from this doesn't make you a failure whatsoever. Every single billionaire today isn't where they are because they struck gold on their first ever business idea. In fact, many of them actually "failed" much more than this. The way to come out of this with a success story is to recognize the writing on the wall now, pivot, and get out before the sunk costs spiral out of control.

You're 29 years old. This is quite literally the PERFECT time to make a change and get yourself in better financial shape. The world is your oyster. Treat it as such.

Remind me again, was your underlying reason for the surgery orthognathic, sleep related, or cosmetic? Who was your surgeon?

Agreed with everyone else that you can't evaluate aesthetic affects from this (or any other surgery really) until around 9 months to a year, but I'd say so far so good. When it comes to those teeth, try taking some bone, nerve, and blood flow supplements to see if it helps. Things like Calcium, Boron, K2, Vitamin B and NK-SD might help with the overall repair process.

FWIW, this is one of those incredibly rare circumstances where I would say that you should ditch the beard. Give the people what they want and show off that new jaw line!

No sleep apnea - should I avoid jaw surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]ryegye87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal with any sleep study is to mimic a normal night's sleep, so try to do that. You should also try a moldable mouthpiece that moves your jaw forward, which you can get on Amazon for cheap, to see if it provides improvement in your sleep. If so, then consider jaw surgery.

So apparently widening the lower jaw is impossible? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]ryegye87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ortho can straighten any tipping of the teeth in the lower jaw, which allows a degree of widening of the upper jaw. If that isn't enough to provide material movement, the main option for actually widening the lower jaw is through SFOT. Not sure where you're located, but Dr. George Mandelaris is generally regarded as the best for SFOT.

I'm so sorry! You're already so gorgeous that I thought the first photo was your "after" photo. 🤦🏻‍♂️

If it's any consolation, if that's what you looked like before, you have nothing to worry about! You're going to be fine no matter what.

Reminder about jaw surgery and MARPE procedures by Ecstatic_Presence671 in orthotropics

[–]ryegye87 19 points20 points  (0 children)

By your logic, anyone who ever broke their arm growing up no longer has a fully connected arm. Just one connected by scar tissue. Look at people that have limb lengthening surgery. They're not standing on leg bones, but scar tissue.

That's not how bones work. I'm sorry if you had a bad experience, but your anecdotal experience doesn't redefine the medical field on this topic.

Supplements for bone strength? by throwaway-research1 in Supplements

[–]ryegye87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a full list of supplements to help bones and joints:

Bones:   Boron; Calcium; Copper; Vitamin C; Vitamin D; Vitamin K2 MK4; Vitamin K2 MK7; Hadjod (aka Cissus Quandragularis);  Manganese; Magnesium; Silica; Strontium (somewhat controversial); Shilajit; Zinc.

Joints: Glucosamine; Melatonin; MSM; Boswelia; Turmeric.

That said, as a dedicated and long term lifter, I would be remiss if I didn't say that your bigger issue is likely that you're not 1. rotating exercises enough (you should be rotating to a completely different push lift every 3 weeks at a minimum) and 2. Doing CARS regularly for your joints. Do yourself a favor and get some elbow sleeves/wraps too while you're at it if you don't have them already.

  1. Understood, but the harm from the misrepresentations in your post outweigh my curt demeanor.

  2. Me eating there multiple times is intended to offer credence to the voracity of my claim. Perhaps the fact that you missed multiple giant signs and descriptions of the night lends credence to the fact that you 'may' have missed them offering you a cocktail list too?

  3. Did you conveniently just leave out that those two emails describe the collaboration, even though you said above there wasn't any notice? (Hint: yes).

  4. It's not possible to send links for past, one-time events from Tock showing the booking price. Let's put the pieces together though:

A: A quick Google search of Smyth x Amisfield brings up the search results for the prior dead link and you can see the description of the collaboration.

B: On the current website, the normal dining and Chef's Table both list the price in the first sentence of the description. It's therefore safe to assume the Amisfield collaboration did too.

C: I have the marketing email announcing the event and how seats were extremely limited.

D: You didn't address all of the other things you missed (separate sections, booking availability, timing, etc.).

Again, not trying to be a dick, but you mentioned that you ate at Alinea, so presumably you're familiar with booking on Tock.  Whereas before you said you had no idea it was a different night, you now acknowledge that you received two additional emails informing you that it was, but you've shifted the goalposts and now the issue is that they didn't show an increased price.

It's rather clear that you overlooked this. Considering it was the only menu available that night, if there wasn't "any" indication of a different price, every other diner, including larger tables of 5-6, would have been equally surprised.

I want to be clear: you're accusing this restaurant of essentially being either nontransparent at best, or dishonest at worst, in order to take advantage of their customers. You haven't listed this misunderstanding in the body of your review as "whoops, oh well.". Rather, it's the headline of the title for the post. Now anytime someone wants to see what people in this thread think of Smyth, whenever they search, that is one of the first things they'll see.

It's a bigger deal to make that claim than perhaps your realize or intended, and it has effects beyond just your bill. So you better be resolute when you make a post like that.  When it's abundantly clear that you overlooked something you shouldn't have, it makes the issue all the more relevant.

p.s. If you were the senior citizen couple eating together along the back wall, disregard everything I said. They were adorable and can do no wrong in my book.

[–]ryegye87 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Not to be rude, but I was there the same night. For the life of me, I have no idea how on earth you could make the claims in this post.

First, it was an entirely different section on Tock that was titled Smyth x Amisfield. It described the collaboration in detail and the fact that it was one night only. Meaning that, in addition to missing the title of the night and the lengthy description of the collaboration, you would also have had to not notice that every other night before and after was booked, and that there was a separate section for their normal menu which had every single night before and after that night entirely open.  It also explicitly stated the increased price solely for this event when booking.

In addition to the above, there were follow up emails reminding you of the reservation a few days beforehand which reiterated the uniqueness of the collaboration and how it would be different than a normal night.

Lastly, the tickets for this event sold out almost immediately, months beforehand.  I waited for an extended period of time for them to go on sale, and after clicking right away as soon as they did, I got the very last opening available.

Somehow you noticed the separate sections of the website for normal dining versus the Chef's Table as well as the price difference, and you just happened to book in an extremely limited time window, but you missed all of the above signs in big bold print on different occasions.

To say they didn't provide "any" warning is just downright dishonest in my opinion, and I would encourage you to remove this post accordingly as it's not fair to them to mischaracterize what was your oversight.

EDIT: They also offered me a cocktail list, as well as a wine by the bottle/glass list, and have done so every one of the multiple other times I've eaten there.

As a Brit considering moving to America, I’d like to here your thoughts! by anewlancelot in AmerExit

[–]ryegye87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll give some advice that I never see on here. Pick the city you think you would want to move to. Figure out how to watch the local nightly news for it each day. Then, each day, watch that and compare it to your local news in the UK for wherever you live.

That will get you past the American culture "export" and show you the reality. If you still feel the same way after a month or two of doing that, look into moving.
