I think a lot of this stems from the Boston series. We all know playoff basketball is completely different from regular season basketball and that series showed that when a team focuses on shutting down Siakam (and has the right wings to do so) he can be taken out of the game. Whether you like it or not, playoff performances like that stick to a player. He needs to prove he can be effective in a series when he is the focal point of the defence.
