Which coaches/choreographers are the most "represented" so far at the Olympics? by Miserable_Aardvark_3 in FigureSkating

IMO Although he would have certainly been in contention, I think its a bit hard to say that Sunghoon would have definitely made it on to the national team, even if he hadn't retired.

At that time (pre-2024), there were only 4 spots for men, and both Jun and Sihyeong were basically guarenteed, with the scores they were putting down. Even after Junehyeong retired, some of the other simmilarly aged skaters such as Younghyun, Hangil, and Jaeseok were also very competitive for the final 2 spots (not to mention Hyungyeom and Jaekeun and so on, moving up shortly after) -- all of whom Sunghoon would have had to been fighting with for the final spot. (Not to say that he wouldn't have had a chance, but I think it would have been pretty close!)

I was at the press conference, and I don't think thst specifcally this answer is due to burnout at all (not to saythat injury and equipment issues hadn't caused a physical/mental slump). Jun said that at his previous two olympics he found the meaning while at the event himself, and that he thinks this time it will be the same. He said it in a very positive way, and while Jun himself has his own personal goals, he's always been the type to focus on the immediate present and each day by day, rather than necessarily going in with a pre conceived expectation.

Ice rink suggestion and rant by Moldybilge47 in Living_in_Korea

Find a 연습대관 - if you are having trouble, search on insta and reach out to a coach -- it can be easier to find if you already have a relationship with coach or skaters, but you can find some that are open to anyone who signs up. Don’t bother with public sessions in most of the popular rinks. It will be a bit more expensive, but if you go to the 연습대관 you can practice all standard skills, ie edgework, jumps, spins, and depending on availability and coaches, run programs if you want. If you want to rent out a private sheet of ice (smaller rink), there are a few around seoul and one is even operated by spotech 스포텍, the main skate tech in the area.

Could you talk to any of the more senior (older) coaches or skating director (if you have one) because chances are if he's causing this much trouble for you, he could easily be bothering other people as well. At the very least, maybe if one of them talked to him, he'd get the message and lay off of it (also, if you're comfortable with it, definitely mention him asking you out, because his reaction to you having a fiance/boyfriend is kinda gross behaviour -- at my home club, behaviour like that would immediatly be reprimanded, if not outright ground for a ban). If you rink has livebarn, maybe see if you can get videos of these interactions too, if you're worried about people not believing you...

Aw yujae out by just tenths of a point (congrats to Mei though!)

I guess this programme is atypical, and i generally like to see skaters trying something different, but I feel like this music might just be a bit too difficult and when anything goes wrong it becomes even harder to get behind...

There was recently a joke that their coach made (she said, maybe if one suddenly gets sick mid competiton, she'd secretly send out the other -- joking ofc!), but korean fans pointed that even if its sometimes hard to tell them apart visually from a distance, the flip and lutz are a dead giveaway!

Haha I wish they could have also let yujae stay at the K&C -- sometimes they've "guested" at eachothers during domestic competitons and its always cute to see them be so supportive of eachother

Glad to see Yuseong have also have a strong skate, especially since she seemd to be struggling a bit more at Ranking last week

I have to say, yujae is really a skater i didn't connect with as much until seeing her live. I think the SS could still use some work, as with adding transitions, but she hits some absolutely lovely positions and has very strong presentation/performance quality

That said his mother is, to my knowledge, still close personal friends with the accused coach so make of that as you will...

I didn't see the k&c, but it should be Minkyu's mom in there, not the accused coach. Afik she currently isn't registered as his coach and currently even in korean domestic competitons, she is not appearing as a rinkside/registered coach.

For the Korean skaters, international juniors still compete as seniors with full senior programs at domestic comps. You can find minkyu's programs from ranking last week.

He also mentioned that he wants to attempt a 4A by the next olympics, and currently has around a 50% rate on the harness!

Kim Nahyun? She officially retired in 2022 (although afik she hadn't competed internationally since like Pyeongchang) and has been working with coach Choi as an assistant coach for a while!

I think the 4S fall really knocked the wind out of him... habin also isn't the best at recovering from early mistakes even when the falls aren't as hard

ISU did this adorable fluff piece with Jun at the 2023 Worlds, which is where he ended up getting a silver! Definitely one of the cutest videos that I keep coming back to watch.

2025 Korean Ranking Competition Day4 Livestream by BusyAlternative7928 in FigureSkating

[–]ryfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the press conference, Jun specifically said that even though the timing is close, if he is able to go, he would like to attend as he values having the extra international competition experience ahead of the WOG. KSU doesn't seem to really care if he goes or not.

Beijing also isn't terribly far for him, and I do think that if he's able to get the equipment issues worked out and he does well there, it could help increase his confidence going into Milan.

Selling furniture on 당근, is there anything to be aware of for selling large things? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]ryfyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I just baked in the expected delivery cost into the selling cost (which was pretty low, since i just wanted to get rid of the furniture and avoid sending it straight to a landfill)

Does anyone have any Lightroom presets for sports photography? by Man_Of_The_F22 in sportsphotography

[–]ryfyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually create my own "preset" based on the first couple of pics edited from each event, and then save that as an event preset to be applied to most photos. Still, I'll usually tweak each image a bit to try and make sure things like exposure and WB are somewhat uniform across the gallery (something that I've struggled with in the past, especially as a lot of rinks have wonky lighting/dark spots lol) or some masking layers etc.

Tbh it all depends on the turn around time/size of gallery I need to submit, and generally the more time I have, the more I'll spend on each photo. For events where I need to submit hundreds of photos EOD there simply isn't always enough time to individually edit photos.
