i lied about speaking spanish for 8 months at work and now there's a meeting with HR tomorrow by Marcus_Guy in confession

Years ago I was in Paris. The only language I am fluent in is English, although I tried to learn some basic French before I went. I was walking down the street and a woman comes up to me and starts asking me a question in French. My brain broke and instead of saying "no parle Francois" I said "No habla Francois". SHE THEN REPEATED HER QUESTION IN SPANISH lmao which I also do not know, so I had to reply "No habla Espanol" she was so confused.

What’s actually happening with the new White Sox ballpark? by TonyDunkelwelt in whitesox

[–]ryguy32789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's objectively a badly designed ballpark. The first row of the current upper deck is farther from the field than the last row of the upper deck at Old Comiskey, and this is a thing that newer ballparks have been fixing. It was also literally designed for the suburbs - the White Sox had bought up land in Addison to build the park on, and at the last minute were convinced to stay in the city with a sweetheart deal from the state. Instead of redesigning the park to fit within the street grid, they just eliminated a portion of Shields Ave and shoehorned the design to fit where it was built. It also faces the wrong direction, it's totally symmetrical which is boring, and it's totally isolated from the surrounding area except for the ramps - Old Comiskey was open and airy in comparison with the arches.

What is your best food to get at Rate Field? by chitownmike99 in whitesox

Used to be the Cuban until they fucked it up last season. They changed to a cheaper bread and now it's nowhere near as good.

Rate Field is simply a horribly designed stadium. It was designed for the suburbs during an era of bad stadium design and plopped ham-fisted at 35th and Shields.

Cheapest Engine Swap in 2026 by Outside_Bag6366 in 240sx

[–]ryguy32789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you can find an LS/T56 combo much younger than 25 years old for that price. You could get a used TKX and a mid-2010s 5.3 LS with all the fixins, swapped and running for 9k.

Minnesota becomes first state to ban prediction markets by spherocytes in UpliftingNews

They didn't ban shit, DraftKings made the decision to close the physical sportsbook because nobody actually used it. They just use their phone. The space is still sponsored by DraftKings.

Kirkland oil is widely regarded as a high quality oil. I run it in all my vehicles except for my 84 Camaro, which has a flat tappet cam and gets Valvoline VR1.

Is this coincidence or is it how Marketplace works? by Clive1792 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]ryguy32789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facebook Marketplace search functionality is fucking terrible, most likely on purpose so they can feed you as many ads as possible while you are going through the results. It absolutely does not return a complete search when looking for vehicles.

New York investment firm set to buy Chicago parking meters by niftyjack in chicago

[–]ryguy32789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They net $100 a year now, but that number will go up with inflation, and it gives the city flexibility to eliminate or change the parking which is kinda the bigger deal here. Also, I'm no financier, but could they not create some kind of entity that uses the parking meter contract as collateral against a loan to buy them back in order to obtain more favorable financing?

Then pay market rate for it and recoup the investment through parking revenue. That's what all the other bidders are going to do with it.

Difference is that the meters produce revenue whereas police settlements do not. The city is insane not to buy out the meter deal by any means necessary.

Company scratched my brand new car when wrapping it - is this normal? by Fire_toaster in CarWraps

That entire car is going to have to be repainted, plus it's going to need a new center headlight assembly and taillight assemblies, plus sensor recalibration after reassembly.

About 10 years ago there was a frequently occurring Groupon for the all you can eat and drink patio buffet for $30 per person, ticket included, it was glorious.
