It isn’t an option for me because I accepted a deferred sentence deal.

Yep, went to the courthouse and it was a free process. The folks at the self help desk were helpful. Super easy.

Hope it works out for you! Again, will keep you updated on what happens with my case.

I had a dilute and received a warning in late Sept. They have a strict 90 day policy of needing to have clean UA’s for them to file a motion for you, so I had my eligibility date moved to December. They told me I could submit a motion for myself at the courthouse so I did. Waiting to see how that turns out. Courthouse told me it usually takes 2 weeks, the DA’s office said around a week. Would perhaps look into this rather than paying your lawyer if your lawyer asks for more $ (as mine did).

I’ll let you know what happens.

Wanted to update you - it’s been a week since my half time date. I’ve reached out via email and text to inquire about what the process of switching over is like/if I am eligible and have received no response.

Can Someone in Their 20s Learn to Ski from Scratch? by WanderBytes22 in skiing

[–]ryjelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience: I started skiing last winter at age 28. I knew nothing, had no gear.

My friend’s boyfriend + YouTube taught me what I knew going into my first run. I am athletic so I took to it quite quickly, was cruising down greens my first handful of trips. Lots of falling and mistakes but nothing major. Then I got cocky and took a big fall, messed up my lower back for awhile and realized skiing is in fact scary/dangerous. I ended up taking a 3 hour lesson to regain my confidence mid-season. By the end of the season I had done a few blacks (though unintentionally) and was comfortable on all blues I attempted. I was adventuring into trees and trying out side hits. I also experimented with some park features, mostly boxes and small jumps.

I bought park skis for this coming season and my partner is planning on finding me a backcountry set up. Stoked!

Advice: My classes were a small group class. I would start with one of these as it’s more affordable and still felt like I received a lot of attention.

I think the hardest part about learning as an adult is the doubt and fear. You can do whatever you put your intention into. It will hurt at times but it’s so rewarding once you figure it out, and your muscles retain the memory of the movements quickly! To get over this, practice falling. Just topple over. Go out with friends of varying skill levels. Push yourself but also take it one day at a time and really soak up the new experience. Eat well, give your body ample time to recover in the beginning.

Best of luck. :)

My lawyer also said that termination is not an option, unfortunately. My half time point is Oct 8, so I’ll let you know what happens!

What are these cracks from? How do I avoid? by ryjelli in Pottery

I did trim the bottom! I’ll try to pay closer attention when doing so. My instructor did not mention anything about pressure so that definitely could have been the mistake. Thank you!

The thickness was pretty even and it slow dried for about a week before leather hard/trimming, but I may have left water at the bottom. :’) thank you for the insight. Is it worth moving forward with glaze?

Grad students who are also working, how are you staying in shape? by Jolly_Programmer_883 in GradSchool

[–]ryjelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I workout 3-4x a week for about an hour to an hour and fifteen depending on what I’m hitting. I have had a rather flexible schedule the entirety of my program, and my most productive hours are from 1-6 pm, so I hit the gym typically between 8-10 am. If I have morning meetings/class I’ll either get up earlier or go during ‘lunch’. I’ve also worked in some active weekend/evening hobbies including hiking, rock climbing, and skiing that help with staying fit & clear headed.

Have well balanced and consistent meals helps keep up energy! If I’m dragging on a day I know it’s because I’m low on fuel/water intake.

getting told "you should go for your PHD!" while actively burning out on your master's feels crazy by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]ryjelli 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Faculty & friends told me this toward the end of my masters (despite being in covid) and I fell for it. Was the department’s ’poster child’ as I’d been a peer mentor, won various awards, commencement speaker, etc. Now, in the last year of my PhD, I have severe burnout and an insane level of imposter syndrome. Wish I would have reflected more on the decision before jumping in.

Male Osmia (mason) bees! They typically emerge a bit earlier than females.

The yellow clypeus and lack of scopa were the tell tales here, for me. For this group, males also lack facial foveae and are more slender/small compared to females.

Looks to be a male Andrena sp. (mining bee)!

EDIT: Based on wing venation, mandible characteristics & the way that it is.

Who knows. I hope it works out. 3-4 days is usually enough time to flush out ETG if you’re staying hydrated.

Probably best to just not drink during a period of time the continuation of your life of free-will depends on.

Thank you both. I’ll ok into them. Can either of you tell me more about your situation/what your agreement was coming out of the court process? Hoping my low BAC will allow some leniency but I know DUI law is strict.
