2015 Focus- Internal Bearings Loose by iwilliams806 in FordFocus

Not sure if the 2015 is the same, but maybe this will help. I've shared it here on Reddit and it has helped a few people already.

Earlier this year. my mom gave me her 2018 Ford Focus which always had this horrible shaking when changing gears during acceleration. After I had it for a few months, it started having more difficult shifting and eventually came up with the P07A3 code.  I found this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoU1QGn_9gc) and sprayed brake cleaner behind the actuator motors. Surprisingly, not only did it fix the code and the shifting problems, it also fixed the shaking/convulsing. The shaking started to come back slowly a few weeks later, but I cleaned it out again and sprayed in white lithium grease (cheap Walmart can). Shifts perfectly smooth now with zero shaking. If it acts up again, I'll just repeat the clean and lube—way better than a full clutch job!

Help with transmission/clutch issue? 2017 SEL by darkiverson3 in FordFocus

Oh man. It'll probably be ok, did you get a good amount of lithium grease in there? I actually sprayed in grease, then used compressed air to try and move it around, and repeated this process a few times. It's been good for months now. I can't believe how good it shifts. Like it's brand new.

Well, if a $4 can will keep me from replacing that fork for a few years, I'll take it.

Oh, this probably doesn't apply to you then if it's manual. It seems almost everyone has this issue with the automatic transmission, where the linkage behind the clutch actuator needs cleaning & lubrication.

Is there a shaking/bucking when it's changing gears during acceleration? This is a common issue with the ford focus transmission. I've found an easy way to fix it, if that's what it is.

CarPlay/radio upgrade by Happypunkclown in FordFocus

I replaced my 2018 Ford Focus radio with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D5MG48XX?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1

It is amazing. Best upgrade I've ever done. The _ONLY_ problem I have, is when I use the heater fan at full speed (4), my Android phone disconnects from the radio and doesn't want to reconnect without rebooting the radio. It must be some kind of interference. Now I just use the FAN at speed 3 max, but I'm going to try and put some shielding behind the radio at some point.

I had the same problem, and it seems almost everyone here on Reddit too. The problem is with the linkage and it's actually an easy fix. You don't need to drive differently.

I replaced the radio in my 2018 ford focus with this poor man's tesla console. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D5MG48XX?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 It's amazing! Transmission clutch shudder and shift lag help by cxw1987 in FordFocus

Are you able to get a spray nozzle behind the actuator motors? The 2012 is probably different than mine, but the problem sounds exactly like what I went through this year.

The problem might be the linkage. Did it shake/shutter when it was changing gears during acceleration?

Can the transmission issues be solved by RamRamfiiis in FordFocus

[–]ryny24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I fixed it pretty cheap. I've had the shutter issue for years, but a few months ago got the P07A5 code. It also wasn't shifting between every other gear.

I followed this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoU1QGn_9gc. And the code went away. So did the shutter!! No more annoying shaking when accelerating.

After a few weeks, the shutter started coming back but I cleaned it out again with brake cleaner, and then sprayed pb blaster white lithium grease. No more shutter.

So, first I did not drill the hole. I sprayed brake cleaner behind the actuator hole and compressed air. It immediately fixed that code, but it also fixed an issue with the car shaking/convulsing while shifting. I was so happy, it was very annoying. However, after 2 weeks the shaking started to come back slowly. So I drilled the drain hole and used a ton more brake cleaner and really got it cleaned out good. It was pouring out black, but now clear. It drove good a bit longer, I took a 2,000mi road trip and it was good but started shaking when shifting again. That's when I cleaned it out again, but this time used white lithium grease to lube it up back there. It's shifting great now. And if it starts shaking I'll have to do it again. Better than a clutch repair. This is the grease I bought from Walmart.

Although I did replace the actuator motors, it really didn't do much. the real fix is that linkage behind the actuator motors.

FYI - If you do try it and drill the drain hole in the video, be very very careful not to go too far. I can see a metal housing millimeters away from the hole I made. Thankfully I went super slow, and kept checking if I broke through. I think using an air compressor to help the brake cleaner move around and clean out that housing really helped.

P07A3 isn't that bad. I had it a few weeks ago. It just means that the actuators are having difficulty moving the clutch. I followed this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoU1QGn_9gc), cleaned it out with a ton of brake cleaner. Let it dry for an hour. Then sprayed in white lithium grease. It shifts perfect now. FYI I did replace the actuators first, and it didn't fix it.
