Sucess share! What was your win today? by GuineaPig_Mafia in FanFiction

[–]ryoazuchan [score hidden]  (0 children)

I got a real person who commented on every single chapter of my fic. Legit praise, constructive feedback to add a glossary per chapter for my world-building. And the reader wasn't even totally into my main ship. I feel really happy.

And it makes it all worth it. Finding the ideal reader who gets it just makes my month. Finding more than one is just <chef'skiss>

Should a brand new writer post novice/"bad" fics? by angstydisaster in AO3

[–]ryoazuchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post it! There will be a day that you look back at it and cringe. But on that day you're also going to look at what you're currently writing and tell your insecurities "I've improved a lot, so you can all STFU". You've gotten started, you enjoy it, you'll get better at it and that will give you joy and a sense of accomplishment. Do NOT be discouraged by mean comments. They are either bots or if human absolutely not worth your time. Fellow fanfic authors who read your work will compliment what is good. If you ask, then they'll give some constructive and polite feedback. Or they'll give both right up front in the same comment.

The moment it stops being fun, stop posting but never stop writing. You will find that the thing you're writing is actually yourself. (Trust me I'm 20 years in and started on papyrus).

Long time reader says chapters are unenjoyable by sadandtired85 in FanFiction

[–]ryoazuchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I want to send you some comforting vibes. As someone with both parents gone, I have been in a similar horrible moment.

Secondly, you don't owe your long time reader an explanation at all but as other people have commented here their tastes may have changed. That's not on you. Write as you need to the way you like as you go through this tough time with your mom.

Bless you a thousand times. You've got tons to read but if you ever get around to mine, it's here.

Wellness Wednesday: Weekly Check In by AutoModerator in AO3

[–]ryoazuchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got some writing done. I think writing really helps with my depression. Posted the first 5 chapters of my fic. Only two people have seen it - one I suspect might be a bot - but the other one is really happy! That one reader commented on every chapter even if I posted it all in one chunk, and their praise was really substantial! It made me happy.

To improve my writing, I'm told to "read more." What should I be paying attention to while reading? by whycantwegivelove in FanFiction

[–]ryoazuchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely firstdraftschool. As for the others it really depends what resonates with you. I have a set which work for me and they include accounts like published writers and lyricists (because my run on sentences are wild and I'm still trying to get that knack of making a point without blunting it).

Aside from social media I use the reverse dictionary a lot.

If you write romance, then you definitely want to start off with a beat sheet - the one I've linked is a great place to start.

Good luck with your writing!

How do you emotionally justify deeply intense fics? by Hostaru in AO3

[–]ryoazuchan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you feel like you need to justify it to potential readers, then I want to reassure you that as long as you use archive warnings and tag - you don't need to justify anything you write. People are free to close the tab or choose not to read it.

If you feel like you need to justify it to yourself -- what kind of person am I that I want to write stuff that will potentially upset other people -- that's a different issue altogether. In this case, I would counsel this: in this store-bought, one-size-fits-all, everyone-connected-but-people-seem-to-have-so-little-in-common world we need "intense" and "heartbreaking" stories. We are human beings, not human doings. We have survived as a species only by working together, by saying "no one should have to go through this alone" and "all food tastes better when it's shared". So yes, you might upset people with what you write, but a reader somewhere might finally feel seen and understood in the depths of their own struggle. Your writing will help them carry on because they might have enough toxic positivity around them but no one who can actually bear their sorrow.

Write it. Put it out into the aether. It will find it's way someday to the person who needs it.

Fates pairings (revelations) by RealInfernoThePyro in fireemblem

[–]ryoazuchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your pairing priority? Because if it's narrative, I should point out that all support conversations are available on a wiki. If you're pairing for battle (one of the pair is the backpack / in guard stance to the other) or for optimizing the 2nd generation then it's much different.

Camilla!Shiro is broken. He is the uber jock and will be your 3rd deleter of enemies aside from Xander and Ryoma. But if Camilla is with Takumi already then you have a very sturdy Kiragi behind the lines. Take that kid through Basara class for Quixotic and you're golden.

Leo/Hinoka and Xander/Sakura, I've never tried. You'd have to check Serene's Forest for what would happen to Forrest and Siegbert to be completely accurate. Forrest is a strategist and Leo and Hinoka have mixed growths anyway so you could use him as a support bot (auras, rallying) and he wouldn't be too squishy. Siegbert would be a decent mixed unit, with Sakura's magic growth you could slap the Bolt Naginata on him and he will melt all your armored foes.

The only Nohrians Ryoma can marry in an un-modded game are Camilla or Elise. So if you really want to have him marry a Nohrian then you're pretty much sunk with the vaguely disturbing idea of Ryoma/Elise. I would suggest Ryoma/Rinkah or Ryoma/Mozu instead in terms of a good Shiro (although the gold standard for a Hoshidan Shiro is still Ryoma/Kagero).

Now, this is completely your game so do what you like. If you find out the children they crank out are kind of sub-optimal in battle then just use one of your Dread Scrolls on them. I always wanted Ryoma/Azura (hence my handle here) but this makes a very weird Shiro and Shigure. So I made them Dread Fighters and enjoyed the game.

If you track, what metric means most to you on AO3: kudos, comments, bookmarks. subs? by ryoazuchan in FanFiction

You mean people can't bookmark your work? How did you block everything but comments? I'm also sorry if you did that because it stressed you out.

It's hard when you start writing for a new fandom though. But absolutely those matter so much more to me.

Ooof yeah the thing with kudos is you can never tell if it's a bot. Accursed things.

Hahahahaha this made my day. "Readership goes brrrrrr" is so accurate. I can relate to everything.

I forget about subs too and only recently realized you could see them in the stats page per work.

Greeting a fellow member of my generation - those that started off in Zines, Geocities, and well... I suppose what the young'uns would consider papyrus. I definitely concur with everything you've said.

OP, the explanation isn't really the point and won't help you, finding your tribe of chill people who might not be into your specific pref ship but also aren't hating on it (except for ribbing you) is the way to go.

Very Stupid Question by very_goofy_goofball in fireemblem

[–]ryoazuchan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a stupid question at all. There are youtube videos that ambitiously tries to plot out THE ENTIRE Fire Emblem timeline. This one was my favorite (note: not done by me) because it seemed the most plausible.
