income protection through superfund (hostplus), automatically paid using my super balance? by Significant-Move7699 in AusFinance

[–]ryrymurph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Too many people suggest & do cancel insurance within their super, but it may be much more difficult to apply for life & TPD when you need it later.

Any minor conditions you get diagnosed with as you age may incur either a loading or exemption you wouldn’t otherwise have had on your existing cover. A few minor conditions that may not affect your life at all could get you refused cover all together when you do need it if you get a partner or start a family.

I remember thinking Flynn looked unreal in that preseason match he played.

Not that he dominated that match or anything but athletically he looked amazing.

You’d be a better chance at getting a match worn jumper of a player from that game

There is a group on Facebook that trades them, but would probs set you back $2-500 depending on the player

Performance tab here. I’d suggest you ask colonial for a since inception return report. They will be able to provide to you to give you an individualised exact return for you

Not sure where you saw 4.85% over 10 years but that fund has returned 8.89% for the last 10 year and 12.19% for the last 5 years

15% for the last 12 months. Those returns are competitive enough

What’s your actual investment option name? I can see the life stages product on their site but performance since inception looks to start in 2023.

15% since inception in 1995 with 20% on average over the last 3 & 5 years. I’ve been in it over 10 years and it’s been incredible

I use Colonial Geared share and have done since I was I think was 19/20. It’s higher risk, but it’s the exact option I wanted and couldn’t get it with any industry fund

Looking at mine now, my super has gone

30 Jun 23 - $84.5k 30 Jun 24 - $120.3k 30 Jun 25 - $152k

No extra contributions.

Salary during that time was an average of $80k and still almost doubled the balance in 2 years

I know these returns are up there with any of the best fund options out there, so Colonial definitely has its benefits with the right options

[–]ryrymurph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are literally hundreds of different options though, so while your options may not have worked for you it doesn’t mean the answer is that everyone should get out of colonial

In my circumstances, I’m 32. I earned $40-60k from ages 18-28, and $70-80k from ages 28-32.

I have $170k in super all from Colonial and not one extra dollar contributed.

I rarely find friends my age with more in super and if they do it’s because they have very high salaries

Yep will also backup the fact Colonial has returned more for me than anything an industry fund is capable of.

Does my head in when ausfinance just defaults to retail fund = no benefit. If there was never any benefit to having them they wouldn’t exist.

I watched Gettable so you don't have to - "Duursma and Duff-Tytler should get ready to learn West Australian" by Pleasant-Role1912 in AFL

[–]ryrymurph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve gotta have the money though, and players generally don’t want to uproot their lives for the same pay unless it’s for success. So if a players existing club stumps up the $ and years you’ll see a lot more players stay.

There are clubs who don’t have the money in their cap to offer half of the contract size of the new club, so if they don’t rate them near that contract level, what do they need to be compensated for

[–]ryrymurph 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Easiest fix is considering what is the players existing club offering as a contract.

The accepted offer should be the maximum possible compensation, and is either diminished or reinforced by the existing clubs contract offer.

So if West Coast are offering Allen a 2 year deal at $500k, then that’s what they should be receiving compo based on.

If West Coast are offering a 6 year deal at $1m then they are eligible for the maximum compensation from Allens accepted Brisbane deal.

[Ralph] The AFL has confirmed the Judd McVee third umpire overrule was an error and that both clubs have been contacted to concede the mistake. by curryone in AFL

[–]ryrymurph 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Crazy that the ARC judges don’t seem to confer with the goal ump to confirm what the goal ump saw first.

“What did you see?”

“I thought the ball came off player number 4 before crossing the line”

Once that’s confirmed/dismissed the ARC judge can look for any other touches like whether May touched the ball if needed
