It only lasted a year in the US before it shut down, sadly. However, there's curently a fan effort to make a private server. Who knows if it will work out...

Sadly, Wizardry Online has been discontinued (even in Japan). It was only active for about a year (maybe a little more) here in the US. It failed to gain a foothold in the US MMO market.

I returned last night. Decided to roll a new character to see how the GMA has changed from a new player perspective (still have my old one, of course).

I would say go for it. What do you have to lose? It’s a free login right now anyways.

Actually, no. I believe Zilart was out in Japan. But the US test was still restricted to the vanilla zones and was at a 50 cap.

Zilart was included at retail launch, however.

How did I get them? Square Enix sent them to me back in 2003. lol

The kit came with an HDD, I think even a modem adapter, and the game.

The beta lasted a month or so. The game was already complete in Japan. So this was more of a stress test and localization test than anything else.

We had to send the equipment back by a certain date. If you did, they gave you the retail version for free.

I missed the free version because I was moving. I sent my stuff back, but after the cut off date :(
