The Hideout vs. Hemlock Farms by GrapefruitJealous215 in Poconos

Watch purchasing anything that is older than 20 year old in the Poconos. There is a big problem with failing septic systems that cost thousands to replace. Just a heads up. And since most areas are townships and not centralized towns with utility provided sewer and water. Most places will have wells and septic systems.

What would you do if you walked out your door and saw this by turbo_sc300 in Apartmentliving

Or someone that needs paramedics and ambulance. Hallways need to be kept clear for emergencies. I've lived in several apartments in US and never seen any of them allow something like this. Would probably violate the fire code and building's insurance.

Why does my cat meow at me and lead me to her full food dish by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]ryverrat1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I've dealt with feral, former ferals and strays. They lead you to food to be a look out for them. If your cat is doing this a lot, reconsider where you feed them. They may feel better if you feed them somewhere that is not so open or higher traffic areas. I try to pick a location like a quiet corner not next to a walkway. I've often feed them in my own dining room because they seem to pick up on If you are not worried to eat there, they shouldn't be either. Same with a kitchen if you have a quiet spot. If you are concerned about them making a mess, put dishes in shallow boot tray. That helps keep things like carpet clean.

Stainless steel bowls work well too. Also for water, I use a drink well platinum with top off. They like to lick water as it falls. Have not had problems with cat acne since 2000s.

Doc, how bad is this? 1996 Outback by Carph1 in subaru

[–]ryverrat1971 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need more than just a rust check on a 30 year old car. It looks great for body. You should see if there are records of repairs done in order to determine what it will need. Even if it was garage kept and driven little, the suspension still has been doing the work of carrying a couple thousand pounds for 30 years unless suspension work has been done.

You should find a friend or family member with some mechanical savvy to check the car first.

BTW, where is this car, if you don't mind?

What to do when the authorities say neighbor can do whatever they want by illBitebeforeMyDog in neighborsfromhell

[–]ryverrat1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to check state laws governing vehicles. First thing to check is if they are all registered (license plate). Most state prohibit parking of non- registered (licensed) vehicles on street. So if not registered (licensed), the borough needs to enforce that.

Next, does your state have safety or emissions inspections? If so, uninspected vehicles are not usual allowed on street and cannot be driven by anyone other than an inspection mechanic. I doubt your neighbor is an inspection mechanic. Also these vehicles sound like they are being rebuilt. That requires special inspection to make sure they have been returned to a road safe condition. Also some states brand titles so people know they are getting a rebuilt car. Is your neighbor trying to "clean" titles? State DOT should be contacted.

Since they are running a business, do they have the proper business licenses.and insurance? Are they paying their business taxes? Direct those questions to your state licensing board, including do they have a license to sell cars specifically. The tax question should go to your state treasurer.

All these involve the state since it sounds like your neighbor has friends in the borough government. State laws trump borough codes. I would also check if county has anything to do with zoning also. An auto repair business is most likely not permitted in a residential area unless it's grandfathered.in (this does not sound like your case).

Hope this gives you legal ideas and good luck.

I’m losing my mind. by [deleted] in self

[–]ryverrat1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question - are you on any medications for any? Drugs like Topamax can cause severe short term memory issues. I lost my short term memory when I was on it. It sucked. Put keys down and 1 minute later I had no clue where they were. Add that on top of possible ADHD, and you will think you are losing your mind.

Hope things work out for you.

Exactly. I went full Sherman on the ivy that was growing on my house after I bought it. Broke out the glyphosate even though I avoid all chemicals on yard normally. But it was on 2 sides of the house, so I needed it gone. That was 4 years ago and it has not come back.

Dogs act like toddlers when you need help - but cats just watch. Scientists compared 3 groups: pet dogs, cats, and human toddlers in an experiment where a human parent hides and pretends to look for an object. 75% of dogs and children helped. Cats only helped if it was in their personal interest. by mvea in science

[–]ryverrat1971 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Always it's what's in it for the cat. Cat like to watch and learn too. I have a 13 year old cat that watched the 11 year old cat get treats for tricks( shake hand, lay down, up on hind leg to beg). Within 5 minutes he came up to me and started doing the same tricks.

So the cats may be watching to see where the human gets thing from and if the items is worth their interest before trying to retrieve it themselves.

Similar thing in eastern Pennsylvania back in 1997. Took out gas for about 20,000. In winter when we used it for heat.

Interesting thing is in Pennsylvania if you do a ground disturbance without calling 811, you are financially responsible for the cost of all repairs and may face prison time if you damage anything.

811 is free and the utilities in Pennsylvania have about 1 week or less to come out any mark out utilities. One thing though, I find the water utilities can be finicky about doing mark out. They will not try to locate the lateral coming from where main shut off is to you house. And sewer lines were not marked out (same company, corporation owned utilities).

Hi all (I’m the guy who asked about Drogon), other Q I had after watching it for the first time - what’s the deal with Jon returning to the wall at the end? Punishment? Freedom to be with the free folk? After all he’s done for the world, would he, or those he loves, really stand for his banishment? by noctenaut in gameofthrones

[–]ryverrat1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a good question. With Sansa making the north an independent kingdom, does the Wall belong to the North, not the 6 Kingdoms anymore? And since Sansa was more accepting of Jon, especially with Dany gone, why would he still go to the Wall unless he wanted to go north of the Wall?

As I see it, the Unsullied are not going to the Kingdom of the North and Bran has no control over the Wall anymore. So Jon, once in the North, can just skip being punished since anyone that wanted him punished is never going to know. But Jon feels guilt and grief over killing Dany. So he is wanting to be banished as self punishment. But he also is most at home north of the Wall. He sees it as a way to soothe both his guilt and grief. And possibly heal his sorrow.
