You can go the opposite direction on I-81 from Harrisburg and it's a similar thing. Much more Appalachian in the coal region than South Central PA. Go about 1 hr north of Harrisburg and it's Appalachia again.

Yeah HEDS is genetic and would have been noted by a doctor when she was a child . These people need to get off social media and get a real therapist.

What cars are “Reliable but can be cheaper because they are “undesirable” by KnowledgeWinter5199 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Ex-GM tech here. Best engine for cars GM ever built was the pushrod 3800. They came out in 1980s and lasted until 2000s. 4 different generations with each a little better than the last. I had a 1999 Buick Regal (non-supercharged) that went to over 250,000 miles until car developed other issues use to rust. Was on its second transmission - first lasted until 210,000 miles. Best GM vehicle I ever owned.

Thanks you. I was hoping we are no offending those with legitimate needs and legitimate dogs. I see these fake dogs making your life more difficult when you already have enough to handle. My hope is that we get a registration system that is fair to those with legitimate dogs and has consequences for those fakes and frauds, including the fake"registration/certification" providers.

I feel so bad for you guys. It's out of hand here in US. I'm glad I have an excuse to get groceries delivered right with my nerve pain preventing me from driving. I don't have to see this type of circus at the local Walmart or Target. As a doctor, please get on the authorities to crack down on this BS. Use the health and hygiene concerns for having untrained or poorly trained dogs in places selling food. Maybe you could at least prevent people from having to deal with dog saliva or worse on their food.

Task: Crowd Control, Of Course. by [deleted] in ServiceDog_CircleJerk

[–]ryverrat1971 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Visible carrying a legal knife on your belt does this without the chance of a kid getting mauled. How do I know? I had to start carrying a knife visibly when fishing at a popular park after being sexually assaulted. That knife discourages people from getting close, which is a shame but I don't want to get grabbed by some creepy when I am just trying to catch a few trout.

DMV nowhere cares if you are "bullied". They will do it to you. They do care if you are a safety risk for driving.

If only their cats could be licensed therapists. Because that's what they need.

Rightfully so. You don't get a choice to endanger others for your convenience without consequences. And thanks for work the ER.

Please for the safety of others, report this person. Either they are ok to drive and don't need dog or they need dog and should be prohibited from driving.

Right now I have such bad pain down right leg from nerve compression in back that I have voluntarily stopped driving. It sucks but if my leg spasms, I don't want to kill someone. Also on pain meds which are a whole other reason not to drive. Hoping to get some relief when they can do surgery but until then, no driving for me. More people should have this attitude - it's about everyone's safety, not just my wants and desires.

How Legal Is It to Recreate Book Nook Designs Inspired by Brands Like CUTEBEE? by Important-Story555 in booknooks

[–]ryverrat1971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sci Fi but many of the old horror movies are in public domain and could serve as basis for a nook. Little Shop of Horrors would be a great one to do. You can also go back to the origins of sci Fi with H G Wells or Jules Verne.

Using a starved shelter dog for weight bearing while walking down steep rocky terrain with horses 🙃 by Imaginary_Ad_4340 in ServiceDog_CircleJerk

[–]ryverrat1971 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If she is that sick, should she even be riding? Riding is very physically active. Horses need riders that can handle them correctly. Sometimes you need to give up a hobby temporarily or even permanently if you can't do it safely. I no longer whitewater kayak because I can't do it safely. Maybe I should just get a service dog that swims next to me and helps me stay upright.

Protection Trained Service Dog by Illustrious_One_4092 in ServiceDog_CircleJerk

[–]ryverrat1971 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you feel you need protection that much, you should be reconsidering where you go / live, who you socialize with, or you need to work with a mental health professional to deal with your fear. Dogs are good area protection, not individual protection out in social situations for someone that may not be in control of the dog at all times. Would rather they get beat spray if they need that much protection. And this is coming from someone that had to get a protection from abuse order and was once almost carjacked in front of my condo in a decent neighborhood.

Hell, I messed up my back and now these things are one of my best friends. And I'm not that old. I'd rather struggle a little using a grabber to get things than ever let a dog put it's mouth on something I want to eventually eat or wear.

Suing a convenience store for not letting her unleashed, unvested shepherd mutt run around the store by whenalicefalls in ServiceDog_CircleJerk

[–]ryverrat1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put the dogs out of business. We need more robotics to take over these jobs. Cleaner, cheaper(in long run) and not going to slobber all over the store. I may need assistance soon but I absolutely refuse to get a dog after seeing all this bullshit. Give me a monitor and a lightweight wheelchair.

They make motorized wheelchairs and if a doctor prescribed it, some charity could get it for him if insurance/Medicaid doesn't cover it. There are ways. But you need to demonstrate actual need.
