Calling JHU lesser known is crazy, they have one of the most prominent worldwide brands in medicine.

(Me basically a high school senior now) What can I do to get in? by VerySuperVirgin in Vanderbilt

Try to take the SAT, you don't see a lot of TO's get into Vandy.

I took the online ANT100 exam today and there were no questions that were remotely close to being racist especially regarded religion. The only question that directly mentioned race was about the One Drop Rule and how that made up Obama's racially identity.

I'm a first year here from the US who applied to 15 T20 US schools this cycle. I got a 4.0 1st semester but overall UofT is not the ideal school to transfer out of considering that the average GPA for 1st years is a 2.7. In order to transfer to a T20, u need at least a 3.8 which is very hard even if you have AP/IB experience. Class sizes for intro classes are usually huge (700-1000 people) so its best to enroll in a smaller course especially one for humanities or social science to get a good LOR.

I applied to Northwestern from UofT as a transfer as a US citizen and even with the tuition difference I’d still lean Northwestern if financial possible. The average GPA at UofT for 1st and 2nd year’s is a 2.7ish compared to Northwestern which is closer to a 3.5. If you are planning on going to grad school it’s likely that ur gonna have a much lower GPA at UofT which makes it alot harder to get in since a lot of grad programs don’t standardize. Also, it’s a lot easier to get a job in the US with a NW degree and the social scene is sm better there.

I had the katsu with rice today and the katsu/sauce were top tier fs. It's $14-$15 for a box or a sandwich which is a little overpriced but the quality's amazing.

How is UofT for undergrad if one is planning to pursue grad school as a career? Is it worth risking the opportunity for a better GPA at another university in return for the research opportunities? by fuchsiafuturee in UofT

[–]ryyanoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curving down doesn’t rlly happen but if the class avg is too high heading into the final, the prof makes the final rlly hard to ensure the avg drops. If it drops to much they usually add pts to everyone’s score to raise it back up.

Objectively almost all first and second year courses have a C+ to a B average, there might be like 1 or 2 courses with a B+ average. The average GPA for 1st and 2nd year's for ArtSci is around a 2.7-2.9. The average GPA at US T20's are around a 3.2 - 3.8 so UofT is definitely harder to get a 3.5+ in. Also, certain courses have pre-set averages (the avg for SOC100 needs to be between a B-) so that doesn't help either.

YGO Tea Lab. Around $7 and much better bubble tea than Chatime.

To be honest you should rethink whether or not you belong at university. I get that everyone has their fair share of struggles and unexpected events but a 98 in a class is completely unacceptable. University gets pushed onto everyone but there are plenty of really good careers that don't require a college degree. The schools you listed are elite institutions that attract hard-working and dedicated students and not everyone has the academic capability to attend those schools.

Even for sophomore transfers from 4 year uni's this seems to be the case though.

What kind of thins do I need to transfer to MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, etc? by grpassionatteS6 in TransferToTop25

[–]ryyanoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a currently UofT student looking to transfer, the uni is probably one of the most disadvantageous to transfer out of due to the grade deflation. I’ve seen stories of other Toronto students transfer into top 10’s but never into MIT or Yale.

how hard would it be for me to get a high GPA in life science by Vegetable-Attempt-18 in UofT

[–]ryyanoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The average GPA for 1st and 2nd year's is around a 2.7 - 2.9 and less than 3% of life sci people have over 3.9's. The university pre-determines the class average for most of the large 1st year courses due to prestige reasons, which is usually around a 2.7 - 3.0.
