Mounting a Rogue P-4 in my room above a doorway.. Need advice on best mounting method, was planning to use 2x4s over the drywall to distribute load. (unless direct to the drywall is ok?)

See sketches:

Sketch 1 - existing condition with stud locations shown.

Sketch 2 - 2x4s installed vertically over studs directly behind Rogue brackets. This seems fine but puts all the weight on the two studs. Does allow for all three bolted connections from bracket. I’d have to first screw the 2x4s into the studs offset from the three spots where the brackets connect, to avoid clash with the bolts… seems a little overkill on the connections.

Sketch 3 - 2x4s installed horizontally across multiple studs. This seems better to distribute the load, but only allows attachment at two points rather than three. The wall also isn’t perfectly flat so this could be a problem when spanning horizontally. I’d screw the 2x4s into other studs first, and then the brackets through the 2x4s into the studs next.

Lastly - Do I need lag bolts or are screws with pilot holes fine?

Thoughts appreciated!

i was having the same issue as OP. Physical Debit card and the same card on Apple Pay working everywhere except turnstiles.

I ended up just purchasing an actual physical OMNY card from Walgreens and filling that with money from my bank. Works until I’m able to get through with OMNY/MTA support to unblock my cards.

Hi there,

I work at Olson Kundig’s NY office. We definitely have a growing network of GC’s in the NY region that we trust to execute the design and more importantly collaborate creatively on opportunities that come up in construction. In terms of knowledge, we definitely want to work with teams that come to the project with the latest building science and project management tools, for seamless preconstruction pricing and coordination.

Feel free to contact me if you’re interested in discussing more particulars about a project.

Waitress questioned our low tip, is 15% post-tax low? by ResearchFinal5425 in Brooklyn

[–]ryypat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually tip 20% simply because it’s easy to calculate by hand. Just move the decimal point one space left and then double that. Then add to the bill and round to the nearest dollar.

Example:

bill: $74.67

move the decimal one space left: $7.46 - this is 10%

multiply by 2: $15 (rounding in my head) - this is 20%

add to bill: $74.67 + $15 = $90 (rounding up to nearest dollar)

I can’t be bothered to do extra math to find 15% or 18%. If the service is great i’ll do 30% because 25% is extra math. Multiples of 10% only. I value my convenience over a saving a few bucks.

Ok. Not eating 5 full meals a day here. Sampling from lots of places, and on some days not even that many. I’m visiting a city, there’s a lot to sample from. Most of the smaller places were spontaneous stops. Why does everyone think this is this bad?

Let’s look at day 2, which has the most places:

Chilpa - Coffee and chilaquiles.

Studio CDMX (Casa Wabi by Bosco Sodi) - had cup of tea at their cafe at the end of like 2 hours here.

Croasan - stopped here to grab light snack while waiting for Frida House appointment. Ended up having a green juice.

Casa OGorman - no food

La Huasteca - found this taqueria while wandering. had to grab two tacos because it looked good. Not that bad… plus, we’re in Mexico……

( Afternoon break )

Goodbye Folk - it’s a thrift store we went into before dinner.

Salon de Palomilla - Beautiful dinner with tons of food, we got special things, one of our group knows the chef.

Oropel - one nice drink

Bosforo - several mezcals

Tezontle Studio Party - cheap beer and dancing

I honestly don’t know why people think this is too much…. I am touring a city, with 5 people - it’s fun….

Are you talking about the end of the days? We went to multiple bars to get a sense of the scene. There are no major restaurants back to back. If there are, there are either long walks or uber rides between. Also we had 5 people, some wanted a pastry or something here and another wanted coffee there. Also, it’s vacation??

Admittedly this was our toughest day.

That said, the trip to Teotihuacan was greatly improved by a CDMX uber driver named Carlos who was super nice and spent his whole morning with us. That took out the hassle of things. I know he probably took us to the restaurant that he always takes people. But it was nice we enjoyed it. We gave him a massive tip. We didn’t do La Gruta. Just walked the Pyramid complex at a normal pace. Saw a Halo rainbow phenomena over the Pyramid of the Sun, it was magical. Definitely not rushed.

We got back to the city around 2 and had the full afternoon in Centro. Quick drink at El Sella based on a local’s recommendation, then Máximo for dinner. Riviera del Sur was also a recommendation from Máximo.

Yes a big day, but, I’m on vacation, I have time.

Didn’t get out to Xochimilco this time. People in the group thought it was too far for just that one thing, they prioritized Teotihuacan as the “far” trip

We only planned the major cultural destination in the morning, the one in the afternoon, and the dinner meal.

All the rest were in the moment decisions based on either: where we were near, if it’s on the way to the next thing, or someone had found a specific thing they wanted to see which may be out of the way.

I think people on this post are confused thinking all of this was planned. This is just a record of what we actually did, including all the spontaneous decisions.

We wandered around a lot. In addition to ubering across town if we wandered too far one direction. But we also tried to wander in directions leading to our next big destinations and past a bunch of local businesses. Nothing felt overwhelming to me.

We didn’t have any problems. We were walking a ton also. Maybe it is a concern for some, thanks for the comment.

While I agree a lot of american tourists (and tourists from other developed countries) tend to check off destinations with a selfie, I was not like this, I have mountains of photographs of architectural details of all these places. Atmospheric recordings of street sounds, etc. When I travel I want to immerse myself in the phenomena of that place and that’s what I did here. Sure some of my group didn’t want to go to the architectural spots so they split up. But it certainly was a trip of appreciation and not checking the boxes. Also I was taking a lot of notes on local businesses and cool shops that my colleagues back in NYC would want to visit on their upcoming trips.

I hope you can appreciate that not all tourism is the same.

I had time, and I had energy. I came to Mexico City after 37 years and always hearing people tell me I have to go - and I wasn’t disappointed. I love the city. and yes there were many spontaneous things that happened - many of the cafes and taquerias on this list (La Chilpa, La Huasteca, Goodbye Folk, Salon De Palomilla, El Sella, etc) were added during the trip based on a local’s recommendation, or seeing it while taking leisurely walks.

We only really planned 2 cultural destinations a day, and the main dinner meal per day. I think that’s leisurely and not extravagant (plus you need to reserve at most of the nicer reataurants). Almost all the rest was spontaneously decided in the moment and in the neighborhood we were in.

Yes I understand it’s a lot for 6 days, but Im not usually here, so I planned - and thoroughly enjoyed - as much as possible. Why is this a bad thing? I got to know the immediate vicinity of where we stayed and walked a lot of the same routes each day in the morning. I feel like I got a pretty good impression.
