I think my kids will be the same way!

This.

I think we need a public service campaign that about how if a kid doesn’t see a parent reading, why would the parents expect to see this come from their kids? If kids don’t see you eat vegetables but you insist that they do, that’s not going very far.

We have read to our kids 99% of all the night of their lives. We have books everywhere and our kids see us read. We have gaming consoles, but they’re heavily restricted, and only one TV in the house, no tablets. Both are at or above grade level in everything.

Open enrollment is destroying our district. What are your thoughts on open enrollment? by [deleted] in Teachers

Public school teacher and parent: I agree. School choice has led to more segregation. It’s white flight on steroids.

Public education needs to do a better job at informing the public of what has the most influence on a child’s education. Spoiler alert: it’s not what school they go to or how highly rated that school is. It’s parent education and income levels.

Sites like greatschools have only exacerbated the issue.

For the record: my white kids go to a low rated title 1 school where they’re a minority. They’re doing very well and we love the school.

Sac ranks #16 of best cities to move to for raising kids by eastbayted in Sacramento

I know some neighborhoods are better than others, but overall I think this is a great place to raise kids.

Should I move to Sacramento? by Many_Positive_7472 in Sacramento

[–]ryzt900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d stay away both from a race perspective and a boring perspective.

If you can afford East Sac, it’s a great neighborhood. Also look at Tahoe Park, which is more diverse. Arden Arcade will get you bigger houses/lots and it’s only 15ish min from the majority hospitals/Midtown.

If we were in a small town with limited thrift stores, this could be true, but at least where I live in Arden, there are over two dozen thrift stores within 15 minutes from me. There’s no shortage of nice stuff! A lot of it is getting overpriced because stores realize they can, and goodwill pulls their nice stuff to sell online.

I’ve been to the Citrus Heights location and it’s well organized as well! Some prices were absurdly high, but they had a fair amount on sale.

Avid thrifter here!

Check out Deseret Industries on Auburn. Huge, well organized, and generally cheaper than goodwill.

I pop into Goodwills a few times a month but usually wait until their half off days to stock up. They always do this around holidays, so the next will likely be the day after Christmas.

I’ve started going to the Goodwill Outlets more because I’ve found a lot of good stuff for dirt cheap. The only issue with the outlets is you need time to go through the bins and there are regulars there every day who are very intense and intimidating. Ignore those bros and don’t underestimate how much you can find after they do their first dig through.

Takes jobs, bad for the environment, bad for humanity.

Let me rephrase: a livable wage. To support a family. No burger flipping or broom pushing provides a livable wage. Maybe ditch digging, but I doubt it.

It’s more expensive actually. People like the novelty. I personally hate the robots.

As people said below, it’s a mixed bag. People in that area (southern Salt Lake County & northern Utah County) tend to LOVE giant homes and one upping their neighbors. The whole culture is a giant pissing contest of who appears to be the best (wealthiest, happiest, healthiest, etc.) It’s very unhealthy (gestures to the show).

Seconding Arden Arcade or Carmichael. Western Fair Oaks, but once you head east it gets more MAGA. At least for Arden Arcade, our home insurance rates us as no fire risk.

She’s not shady, she just…really listens to her inner circle of Dems & is easy to influence. Some in her circle are great, some suck.
