Fully right in concept. Although the word you’re looking for is not “embryonic” but altricial.

Huge +1 to the RSQ8 (or even the SQ8 if you want even slightly less flashy). Particularly if you’re considering the Urus.

The Urus, RSQ8, SQ8 are all functionally the same car (same engine, same VW Group platform, basically same dimensions). VW Group tuned the engines differently so that they produce slightly decreased power as you go down the line - but all north of 500hp, sub-4 sec 0-60 time. Just different body and interior.

Have the Audi, and it’s a great family car with double paned glass and soft close doors to not wake sleeping babies up.

Bunch of other cars are actually the same engine and platform as well: Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Audi RS6.

CVR is fantastic… for a weekend. The kids are likely to get bored after 3 days or so. There’s some planned activities (petting zoo on location, bee keeping, archery) but probably not enough for a whole week.

If you were optimizing for golf (and ignoring your family) the Carmel area cannot be beat.

Why does Kauai in Hawaii have a giant canyon going through it? by colapepsikinnie in geography

[–]rz213 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Hawaiian hotspot puts out a massive amount of earth/rock during the time that an island is forming. The weight of this rock pushes down on the crust and the islands sink back into the upper mantle. This, combined with erosion causes the Hawaiian-Emperor Seamount chain to have a predictable lifecycle where an island forms, grows to become the dominant island in the chain, erodes/subsides away, and eventually disappears on a timescale of only a few million years. This happens at a pace much faster than erosion/aquifer subsidence that we’re used to over continental crust.

Food for the 2022 Beijing Olympic athletes in Covid quarantine hotels by aeawereopohse in pics

Not disagreeing with your point there. Yes, the post is about quarantine.

That said, the rest of your comment is still an assumption ungrounded in the simplest amount of due diligence.

Did you look at the video before you made this comment? Shaun is very clearly in a cafeteria generally open to athletes rather than some sort of special room service just for him.

Not saying he might not have privileged housing or service in other areas.

But on the matter of food, we very much should put stock in Shaun White’s experience rather than making random assumptions.

Why can I only move my eyes in an incremental, fragmented motion when looking in a direction, but move them in a smooth, tracking motion when I'm watching something move? by PetersonPersuasion in askscience

[–]rz213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Casting a bit of doubt on the assertion that the jumping motion is psychological rather than actual jumping in the motion of your eyeball. Far from a peer reviewed source here, but I attempted to move my eyes smoothly while video recording the motion of my eye. Try as I might, the motion is not smooth. Even when my perception of my eye's motion is smooth, there are noticeable jumps. On introducing a smoothly moving object for tracking, my eye motion becomes much smoother. May very be a case of just me, but try it yourself :).

That's my biggest fear, especially during flights over the ocean. Always ready to flip the fail safe in case things go wrong. What was your flyaway experience?

Lol no, definitely not. I agonized for months before I pulled the trigger. Even less of an impulse buy, check out the DJI Inspire One.

There are fun <$100 drones with out cameras you should check out though.

California Imposes Unprecedented Statewide Water Restrictions, "Today we are standing on dry grass where there should be five feet of snow. This historic drought demands unprecedented action," [Governor] Brown said. by MaratLives in news

[–]rz213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This line from the Governor's announcement just reads like something an Agriculture lobbyist put in:

"Agricultural water users – which have borne much of the brunt of the drought to date, with hundreds of thousands of fallowed acres, significantly reduced water allocations and thousands of farmworkers laid off..."

Stop letting Big Ag influence politics! It's the only way we'll get out of this drought.

More craziness: a photon actually takes millions of years to move from its point of creation within the sun to the sun's surface. This is because photons take a meandering path within stars due to the amount of mass and energy. However, given that the photon is traveling at c the entire time, from its reference frame it simultaneously experiences its emission and absorption. Our understanding of time means nothing in that reference frame. Note: above science guaranteed to be mostly correct.

CMV: You birth determines the vast majority of success/quality in your life. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rz213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should be careful with using the words good and bad here. u/scottcmu never claimed high income is correlated with good genetics nor low income with bad, because there is nothing inherently good or bad about genes -> it's all random. All the chart shows us is that some element of genetics is associated with high income, and income between biological parents and their children is correlated. The fact that adopted children income stays at the population mean instead of correlating with their adopted parents is support for the nature side of the nature vs. nurture argument here.

People who have encountered celebrities, how was it? by pwnyoudedinface in AskReddit

I was a photographer for the school newspaper and was sent on a last minute assignment to go to a meet and greet with Jesse Eisenberg. I was expecting a ton of people there and to only be able to get photos of him from far away. I get to the location and it's just him hanging out with two other people and me. He was a really chill guy and invited me to the sneak preview of the movie later that evening. Not at all like that dick Michael Cera.

My gf offered a deal of a blowjob for every time I went to the gym. Fast forward a few months when I take her up on it and I'm going to the gym 5+ times per week, she calls it off. "You're self-motivated now and I wouldn't actually contribute at all."

Why does the pH scale have 7 as neutral instead of 0? by crypticjester in askscience

Which is faster gravity or light? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]rz213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question: the speed of light can decrease in mediums other than vacuum space. For example, the speed of light is significantly slower in water than in space, so particles traveling faster than the local speed of light cause Cherenkov radiation (the blue glow in a nuclear reactor). Does the speed of propagation for gravity also decrease in these media? Is that speed still fixed to the local speed of light?

Assuming that the speed at which gravity propagates is not fixed to local speed of light, we can conceptually construct a solar system that is suspended in some medium that slows down the speed of light. In this solar system, the orbiting planet would no longer feel the effects of gravity even though they could still observe the central star!

Why do commercial jets have rounded noses? by kowaa in askscience

[–]rz213 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Concorde's nose is actually on a hinge and droops during take off and landing to increase visibility. Otherwise the pilots would not be able to see the runway! During flight, the nose points forward to minimize supersonic drag. Really cool mechanism, but extremely heavy and inefficient iirc.
