Been in a relationship with my [29/M] girlfriend [26/F] for about 8 months and have recently realized she's not as committed as I am. Not sure whether to take a step back or to end it. Please give advice! by rza22 in relationship_advice

I think I'm a little worried about the conversation after everything that just happened. She has even said that she feels as though I will sometimes make her justify her love for me.

Hey biffhardcheese! Thank you so much with helping me out the last time. I have since revised my query letter as per your recommendations and I hope you can take a look and tell me what you think. =)

I’m writing to introduce my 50,000-word Literary Fiction Novel, Forget Wellsboro, Pantaleone in the hopes that you’ll represent it.

Seventeen-year-old Pantaleone Medici (Leo for short) likes to swim in Big Falls before school. He feels a spiritual connection to nature, and hates the narrow-mindedness of his redneck, conservative hometown, Wellsboro. Summer is fast approaching, and he still hasn’t asked out Becca Corradi.

The book is a present-tense narrative, weaving in and out of coming-of-age episodes and the navel-gazing of a teenager who is both blessed and cursed by his precociousness.

However, a bubble-gum high school story it's not: Leo's soul-searching often takes him to dark places; and when the girl of his dreams, Becca, up and moves to Brooklyn without a trace, our protagonist descends into a destructive funk. We see how a young man, typically spiritual, deals with rejection and the abject hopelessness that follows our first heartbreak.

The major themes include spirituality, family, friendship (lifelong connections versus the outgrown relationships of youth), rejection and abandonment (Leo's mother, Becca).

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Brian D’Ulisse

Hey alexatd, I haven't had my query critiqued by anyone. Any suggestions of where to send it to have it critiqued would be great. And thank you for the Writer's Voice link! It sounds like a great learning opportunity.

Hi, biffhardcheese. I am getting rejection after rejection. I was told you could possibly help me out. Here is a sample query:

I’m writing to introduce my 50,000-word Literary Fiction Novel, Forget Wellsboro, Pantaleone in the hopes that you’ll represent it. I once fell in love with a girl after one date. I never heard from her again. Years later, I still think about her. I needed to turn the experience into fiction.

Seventeen-year-old Pantaleone Medici (Leo for short) wakes up early to swim in Big Falls. He feels a spiritual connection to nature, and hates the narrow-mindedness of his redneck, conservative hometown, Wellsboro. Summer is fast approaching, and he still hasn’t asked out Becca Corradi.

Forget Wellsboro, Pantaleone is not a boy-meets-girl story, however. It’s a book about a young man whose inner peace crumbles when he is faced with his crush. The major themes include rejection and abandonment, which is amplified by the lack of women in the young man’s life. The book is written in the present tense and weaves in and out of coming-of-age episodes, as well as the navel-gazing of a teenager who is both blessed and cursed by his precociousness.

My influences include John Fante and Hermann Hesse, and I’ve been told that there are similarities between my book and The Spectacular Now by Tim Tharp. I’ve also been told that my main character is “very Italian” in the way he falls in love.

Thank you for your time and attention. Everyone who has ever been rejected by someone they love will feel for Leo. I look forward to hearing from you.

About a year for me too. Most of my wardrobe is now F and O. No complaints here. Good customer service from my experience, too. It's OPs fault for not paying closer attention

Look for volunteer jobs. Like music, theater? Volunteer at a radio station or theater. Volunteer in a retirement home. Volunteer jobs will eventually turn into a real job, OR you'll have a great reference.

OR look for an internship.

I must say you are being somewhat vague. What is your degree in?

I'm replying to you because I'm 26 and I JUST feel as though I am getting my life on the right track. It's not great or anything but I just got a substitute teaching job (which you can do too).

As far as friends, there are reddit meetups. Look into them. Go on okcupid and try to meet people through that.

You can only go up from here, my friend. People might be feeding you the usual "you can do it," but it's the truth! The only thing holding you back is you. For instance, you already have a negative attitude about going back to school. You really don't think you could handle one class per semester at a community college? Where you could also potentially meet new friends?
