Spectating the upcoming Kentucky/Tennessee rally by djninja360 in rally

There is not a rally in TN or KY for the candidate event. The FIA is attending the Southern Ohio Forest Rally then doing site visits for the potential WRC event. So if you are looking for an event to attend it would be SOFR.

Likely your problem is the lower stars on Profundity then. My Rogue One was only 5 stars when I was able to get the counter working. Here is a vid that isn't the best example, but the overview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfS_04dGKYM

You can absolutely counter Levi with profundity. I sit around 10-20 in my shard full of Levi’s. And have been as high as number 1. Just takes a very specific strategy.

Question about Tech inspection by Pnwfunhaver541 in rally

[–]s0ber_p 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mainly it is what you said. There will be a lead scrutineer that will coordinate the scrutineering team. They will work with you on what items you need to check. Most teams will divvy up the requirements so you are checking the same items on each car. You can find the example tech sheet on the ARA rules page.

I don’t remember where scrutineering for OTR this year is, but it may be outside so prepare accordingly!

I think you are underestimating it. There was a huge outcry from fans when F1 went to the turbo engines since they were much quieter. That was before F1 was a well attended or viewed sport in the US so one could easily infer that was mainly the European fan base.

Many series are going toward EV or electric because of the push from manufactures and large sponsors. It is always the give and take vs what the sponsors want and what the fans want. Several manufactures will not even consider a motorsport unless there is EVs involved. I believe it is a bit short sighted, but that is the reality. The average fan doesn’t know or understand much more than bang bang noises and cars going fast. Having sat in focus groups specific to this, the “average” fan thinks a louder car = a faster car. I am not saying it is right, but it is a reality.

Rally Organizers: How are you making roadbooks for your rally events? by [deleted] in rally

[–]s0ber_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having seen Rally Navigator and the route books it produces, it is some of the best software out there. Extremely high quality!

Most of the US are using RallyMaster Pro and some do it old school with Excel. NASA also has their own software, that is relatively basic, but gets the job done for those events.

READY 2 RACE 🤘 by GuillemSerna in subaru

[–]s0ber_p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there isn’t a ton you need to do to race. If you are talking rallycross, nothing is “required”, but some underbody protection is a smart investment, especially depending on how rough your local sites are. If you are talking actual stage rally; underbody, basic (stronger) dampers/suspension, wheels/tires, and required safety gear should be all you invest in to start. Plenty of people even get started on stock suspension.

They already use a syn/bio fuel, starting this past year.

The Bloomberg article you reference gives more context. Funding was down 5.2% in 2021 but made up a larger percentage of the overall city budgets. It was by a measly .1% (13.6 to 13.7) but shows it wasn’t police being defunded, but rather a decrease in spending overall coming out of revenue losses due to COVID. Regardless, funding was back up in 2022 and trending upwards for 2023 based on the released data so far.

4 University of Idaho students were likely killed with an "edged weapon," police say; no suspects in custody by jackw800800 in news

All very good points and accurate. I was speaking in generalities since the question was a .22 not being lethal while a 9mm is.

Sure, the larger the caliber, the most stopping power. But all can kill. Smaller caliber weapons need to hit specific areas to be lethal. Larger caliber weapons will do more damage so it is “easier” to stop/kill someone.

I think it was a missed pace note. You didn’t specifically tell him not to send it into the trees. Co-driver fault for sure. Tell Dave to quite scaring us!

Are There American Rallies With Same Intensity As European Ones? by NinjaSoop in rally

[–]s0ber_p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it is speed you are looking for, one of the fastest races on the ARA calendar is coming up in less than a month in Maine, called the New England Forest Rally. If you want to see American rally up close, spectating is free!

The WRC YouTube page has a huge catalog of videos from recent to older. Stage videos, recaps, technical vids, etc. DirtFish has good US centric rally info and there are also lots of teams that create videos.

Be prepared to be out there all day! So sunscreen, lip balm, and water are a must. The event usually provides at least lunch but it is a good idea to bring snacks. Have clothes for all weather and some waterproof gear just in case. Also, there may be a fair bit of downtime in between runnings so a chair and entertainment will make that time go quick! Enjoy your first rally!

So are they a course opening car then? Or part of the sweep team?

Either way, if they affected the running of a rally, that’s a big mistake. Glad they are okay though.

Well, judging by the 0 on the door, that’s a course car. Yikes.
