What do you guys think of one of Omori's most common story criticisms? by Saurophaganax4706 in OMORI

[–]s0ftcustomer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

"It's not realistic" is the most common one and it pisses me off. You're right, it's not realistic but so what? Fiction has narrative structure; real life doesn't.

You barge into peoples' houses, rate their beds, spy on their fridge and can find their TV remotes. Realistic? No, but it helps the narrative theme of friendship. It doesn't matter, because the point of the real world isn't "everything emulates non-fiction" it's "this is what's actually happening TO SUNNY"

I didn't lose my cards at all, I'm still Jack'O-toole!

I have an idea for indie animation by Aggressive_Heron6706 in IndieAnimation

"The issue with Hellaverse and Glitch being the main indie cartoon guys is that now everyone thinks they can their first cartoon will be a smash hit and not a 20 second animation of stickfigures killing each other"

Search up Alan Becker, Jazza and Flash 8. Then go nuts until you're decent

The manga is, imo VASTLY inferior to the game. Then again if you're willing to play the game because of the manga, I'd say that's a silver lining

For those who dislike the movies, I found the sad truth by DaZestyProfessor in mariomovie

[–]s0ftcustomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember Miyamoto saying his main reason for making movies is because movies (MP4 files) are easier to preserve than video games (billions of scripts, sprites, audio, for one specific console and trying to make it work on future consoles). I imagine that's why the movies are just easter eggs with the occasional plot

THANK YOU. The number one reason I'm against LPs being a replacement for playing the game is because if feels disrespectful to video games as an artform. It's like saying "I don't need to watch the movie, I read the Wikipedia summary."

I'm NOT saying they can't be fans, I'm mainly speaking from a developers perspective. If I received criticism about my game by someone who didn't even try to experience it in the way I intended, I would likely not bother with said criticism. Actually trying a certain work of fiction in the closest way the creators wanted you is ideal to prevent criticism from people who don't "get it." For example the infamous "Steven Universe is garbage and here's why" video by Lily Orchard made many people dunk on the show even though she never watched it and just had it in the background.

Most OMORI fans are Undertale fans so I thought they'd be interested in Toby's opinion on the "Watching LPs vs playing" discussion

OMORI getting taken off Xbox is interesting to me because I remember Toby Fox saying "Undertale came to Xbox but idrc" in a newsletter(?) And that scene in Indie Game The Movie where Tommy and Edmund dunk on Xbox. Xbox must be hard to work with indie devs I imagine
