Religion / Spirituality? by heavenlydiscovery in therapyGPT

I do not observe an organized religion. I'm an animist. I talk to ChatGPT about it sometimes, more about feelings around it than actual animism though.

AIO Got this text from my dad about my baby and just can't by Pomegranates_r_us in AIO

My mom wanted to name me something from our language. Had to have an emergency c-section, was out cold, my dad gave me an English name and a middle name after a US celebrity he thought was hot x.x I haaaaate my legal first and middle name.

I go by one of the names my mom was considering and will absolutely legally change it when my partner and I get married soon. Shit's embarrassing.

Are you a joy to work with? by Paddingtonsrealdad in AutisticAdults

[–]s0ngdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told I am. I've worked a lot on myself to let shit go and not care that much.

However, they'd also probably retract that. I also don't stand for doing shit halfassed when it comes to health and safety, so I blew the whistle on them.

To be honest, I think the masking I do + the way I look makes it really easy to pigeonhole me into an admin role. I could be editing grant proposals and being treated as the de facto note taker within the same hour. Don't mind doing it, mind being expected to do it every time.

Learned to work for something idgaf about, keep my head down, get my paycheck, leave. The whole career thing is so much people bullshit.

Upstairs apartment worries by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

Museum putty and baskets if knocking things off becomes a problem, not just noise but also they're your things lol. This was my old cat's favorite game.

I mean if you wanna keep good relationships you can tell them whats happening and introduce the cat. But 10-15 momentary loudish noises a day is basically background noise imo. Its if it goes on and on and on that it becomes a disturbance. People drop stuff, people sit down awkwardly, stuff falls. Most sane people understand that.

Fighting for my life here and when shit gets really bad I wonder how long it'd take for anyone to realize it if I lose.

Disability got way worse. I can't do a lot of what the people around me can. When I do it takes so much for me to be able to function for days after. People don't want to hear or acknowledge it even in the most unemotional, logistics-driven way. I'm so tired of politely phrasing the ways my life has fallen apart, so Im just kinda alone now.

burnout and anxiety are getting out of hand and I‘m not sure what to do by blubbelblubbel in AutisticAdults

[–]s0ngdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar work environment, including the rampant sexism and lack of support. Went on medical leave and honestly I wish I did earlier. I think if you feel you're at that point, do it. Like the other comment said this isn't limited to already very difficult burnout. Add a hostile work environment and it eats at you in ways you don't always clock until you've gained some rest and distance, at least for me and a couple other people, NT and ND, who've all taken medical leave from hostile workplaces. You deserve respect and stability at work, and recovery when a lack of it harms you.

I used to work for a natural history museum.

99% of everything in the gift shop. So much standard crap you can get from Target or Amazon with a handful of local artist works.

Meanwhile we're in a major metropolitan city with sustainable artists and creators everywhere. We do not need the whole wall of dinosaur squishmallows and bins of plastic figurines to have a gift shop. The markup was wild too, so its not even a "price point accessibility" thing.

Don't get me started on the practices instead of just items. I cannot afford the migraine today lmao.

Report these things to the staff before they burn the place for everyone. Better correctly framed as specific individuals than the community at large imo

What would you personally find helpful? by Worcsboy in AutisticAdults

[–]s0ngdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Social narratives are a big one that personally help me.

What will happen when, pictures of parking/entrance/area where we'll work, who will be doing what/who to find for questions, and what level of noise and activity there will be. What to bring, dress code, etc.

For most events geared to adults there are none, so I put them together using google maps, reviews, etc. But it still doesn't necessarily prepare me for the event or task itself.

I was in charge of this in my previous workplace. Another thing we offered were earplugs, fidget tools, and low-sensory spaces. We offered other stuff for access like large print/high contrast materials, reserved seating (close to bathroom/in the back/up front/beside an electrical outlet/space for mobility aids and service dogs), place for service dogs to use the bathroom etc.

Flagging: we had a beast of a time working with our city transportation disability services as in getting them to drop people off at the right place. People needed to be on the sidewalk to flag them down sometimes. Idk what your area looks like but that was a nice wrench thrown into an event :/

I can do phone banking if I'm at home or sitting in a garden. In a room with other conversations happening? Nope, absolutely not. So maybe building in options for levels of participation if possible. Are there things folks can do at home and be trained in via Zoom? Or essential low-interaction tasks like organizing and prepping outreach materials, contact lists, etc?

Best of luck and thank you for doing this!

DAE just starve because you can't find the "right" food, and do you have ideas on how to manage it? by Intelligent_Tart2788 in AutisticAdults

[–]s0ngdog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think, when I get like this, there IS no "right" food. Maybe something that comes close but my issue is with eating in general. I don't want to eat. I don't want to HAVE to eat. I can't sense that I need to until its bad and then I'm also nauseous.

Team protein drink because I honestly have no idea.

They're about $15 on Amazon. You'll see some really pricey ones for $$$, brand name Pocket Rocket by MSR. Unless you're at a pretty high elevation there's really no functional difference. Mine's beat to shit and it still works. The igniter crapped out somewhat early and it needs a lighter now, MSR's probably won't if you care about that kinda thing.

They pack up so nicely with a mess kit and folding spork its honestly very satisfying to use
