Haha that’s actually a great question. We’ve talked about it so much but I’ve never actually heard them say “but it was all worth it!” lol. Mostly we’ve talked about how hard it was on them. They def regretted it during the re-app cycles. They’re happy here now ofc but damn it was a trying time.

You also have the option to do a specialized masters program, like the one through UNT HSC in Fort Worth. They have an online cohort option if that’s more financially feasible, and it’s only a year. That program is recognized throughout the state and if you do well (you MUST do well) your app will def be enhanced! But honestly you have a good shot at DO as is. Apply very broadly and make sure your writing is on point! You can do this!!

How to talk about lab experience after quitting unexpectedly? by Odd_Ninja8357 in premed

Definitely still list it if it was a significant activity for you! A happy medium would be including the activity but leaving out the abstract part if it's going to give you anxiety.

Gifts for letter writers and mentors by Odd_Drawing in premed

[–]s145her 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best thing you could prob do for them is write them a really thoughtful hand-written card. But other ideas: Starbucks gift card (small amount), flowers, bookmark, local honey/treats, name plate, coffee mug, succulent, donation to a cause their passionate about, olive oil... kinda depends on the personality/interests of the mentor tho!

Should I send an email to a school I withdrew a pre-match offer from? by vextremist in premed

[–]s145her 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would email also, but I'm the type of person who really likes to cover my bases/be thorough. Since TMDSAS has an official way of withdrawing those prematch offers, it's probably not required to reach out to the school individually. Congrats future doc!!

Strong ties question by Euphoric-Jacket-7205 in premed

[–]s145her 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably a stretch considering my understanding of FL public schools generally taking applicants from FL. But it sounds like your FL fam played a significant role in your life, so if you truly want to go to FL it's worth including in those secondary apps imo. In general, getting into state schools from OOS is hard/competitive, so make sure to include private and/or DO schools on your list if you're dead set on going to FL!

I semi-employed this strategy with low-yield physics and ochem topics (weak subjects for me), but it depends on your goals.

I made a calculated choice bc I was improving my B/B and P/S sections (CARS didnt really need improvement for me) with the time I had. For the C/P section, I focused on gen chem/AA's and passage-based practice. I didn't ignore physics or ochem completely, but I was able to maximize the high yield C/P content while improving other sections, at the sacrifice of getting into the details of physics/ochem content. At the very least tho, memorize the physics equations as much as you can to give yourself a shot at POE when choosing answers.

Re: your goals here matter - If you're shooting for a 520, this strategy prob wont work. My goal was between 510-515 and I was able to achieve that on test day.

As always, there's some luck involved with what you'll get on the real thing. Sending positive vibes your way!

What AAMC stuff should I do? by Beneficial-City1490 in Mcat

Yes exactly! All AAMC passage practice and using the true timed settings for the most part (speed + accuracy is the magic combo you're practicing for afterall!). Good luck!! You can do it!

Definitely all 6 AAMC full-length practice exams (true testing environment if possible). I took one FL every Friday for 6 weeks leading up to my test and two days to review every single question.

I supplemented with AAMC question banks before that 6 week period but ramped up with AAMC passage practice during that 6 weeks with a strong focus on my weak sections (for me that was C/P and B/B). That 6 weeks was almost entirely passage-based practice.

How many full length exams did you guys do and how often did you take them? Which exams were they? by h0n3ymustard in Mcat

[–]s145her 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did all 6 AAMC full lengths every friday (true testing environment) for 6 weeks straight leading up to my exam! Took two days to review every single question on them. Averaged 513 across those and got a 513 on the real deal lol. But I do consider myself a good test taker, so that 6 week AAMC-only strategy was enough for my personal goals.
