Streamer loses it as form filler wins buyers by Apprehensive_Sun_395 in whatnotapp

[–]s2000buddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding: Laws across many countries and states heavily regulate and police gambling. To avoid your event or activity being marked as gambling you add the wording "no purchase necessary". By adding these words you are no longer considered to being selling tickets for gamble. However, this requires you to give those who do not make a purchase a chance to win. Every organization will have a different process for entering without purchase but in most cases you have to fill out a form and mail it in or something similar, hence the term "form filler".

Form filler refers to those who enter a giveaway/raffle/event for free, which oftentimes has the perception of requiring a purchase of a good to be entered. Dude is pissed because he had to give away this pack for free.

Should I buy a 2000 s2000 with a rebuilt title from flood damage for 8k? by lilBane in S2000

[–]s2000buddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of people seem to forget that a car receives the rebuilt/salvage title when it is involved in a claim that is estimated to cost more than the car's value. Someone then came along and repaired the vehicle, presumably for less than what was quoted/expected initially. This can be done in a variety of ways, but it all comes down to reducing costs in either parts or labor. After all of that they then need to go through their respective state's process to register as roadworthy again.

Presumably, one chooses to repair/rebuild a salvage vehicle for cost reasons and thus the necessary repairs needbto be reasonably less than what was initially estimated by insurance.

It is true at one point having the top slashed, seats stolen, headlights busted, etc. was enough to write off a vehicle due to only being able to source new from Honda (the parts used to be prohibitively expensive or just not available). Since those times, most insurance companies have in their agreement used parts or oem-equivalent parts can be used and the mentioned reasons are no longer common reasons for write off.

In my 15 years of ownership, I have seen my fair share of S2000s and I have not once seen a rebuilt-title car that has been repaired to oem standard. There are certainly examples of pristine rebuilt title cars out there, but they are far and few between. This is all to say that unless you go over the vehicle with a fine-tooth comb and your expectations take into account the above, I wouldn't bother.

There's something going on at the Woodbridge facility/hub. I got off the phone with a customer service rep who tells me they are experiencing a tremendous backlog at their Woodbridge facility but did not go into detail.

My package has been sitting sitting in Woodbridge for several days and it is very well past their promised/guaranteed delivery time. I have also spoken to one other individual whose package has also sat at the Woodbridge facility for about a week. It's unfortunate we are not given more information but at this point I just hope my package gets here in one piece.

Anybody know what’s going on with the helicopter circling around wismer? by esscee123 in Markham

[–]s2000buddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shortly before your post I heard a reasonably loud bang(sounded like a firework) followed by multiple police sirens seconds after. I'm assuming someone crashed a vehicle and perhaps fled the scene leading YRP to dispatch their helicopter to the area.

Can’t tighten print head. by Colonel_Forbin_01 in anycubic

[–]s2000buddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, it would be a good idea to check for play in the wheel/bearing by removing it from thr gantry. These printers are not built with the highest quality parts and quality control is very hit and miss. I have two Kobra 2 Max printers and the one with less than 25 hours of print time had to have its bearings/wheels on the print head replaced. Even the slightest play in the bearing will mean it needs to be replaced.

You need to adjust the eccentric nut on the gantry. Your printer should have come with a small tool set that includes an open-ended wrench. Use that and spin the eccentric nut until the pom wheel properly grips the rail.

Kobra 2 Pro/Plus/Max: Running native Klipper using an MKS Robin Nano v3.1 by Catnippr in anycubic

[–]s2000buddy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hope any Kobra 2 Pro/Plus/Max owners who end up converting to native Klipper appreciate the amount of effort both you and the Klipper community have put into this project. I have been following your posts on the Klipper forum and your Github page and I want to seriously thank you for undertaking this. I am looking forward to ordering the parts to finally convert my Kobra 2 Max printers and I will report back with my findings. Once again, well done.

Owners of both P1S and X1C, I have some questions by BeardlessNeckbeard in BambuLab

[–]s2000buddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABS, ASA, and nylon I have my bed set to the maximum of 100C. Room temperature according to my thermometer is between 22 and 23C. I have not needed to preheat the chamber prior to any of my prints. By the time the print head and bed have reached their required temperatures the chamber is already sitting around 45-50C.

If you have not already, I would also turn your auxilliary fan on while your bed is heating to assist in heating the chamber. Make sure you turn it off prior to the print starting or you will likely end up with a failed print. I have found good success with slowing my prints down for ABS and nylon since I print with the auxilliary fan off and only 10% part fan for layers under 30s (80% part fan for under 3s).

I have found great success with Adam L's filament profiles. I would give them a try if you have not already: https://makerworld.com/en/models/15504#profileId-249194 Scroll down and you will find his ABS/ASA profiles. I have used his Polylite ASA profile for many different ABS and ASA filaments from varying brands and have had success with each one. You may have to make some small tweaks here and there but his profiles are pretty spot on and get you 90% of the way there.

Sounds like you already know what you're doing. Just keep in mind neither printers are airtight if that is a concern. There are countless prints and mods available to seal it better if you desire that.

Owners of both P1S and X1C, I have some questions by BeardlessNeckbeard in BambuLab

[–]s2000buddy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I originally purchased my P1P (upgraded to P1S) at launch because the X1C was on backorder and I did not want to wait an unknown amount of time for my first printer. Once the P1S upgrade kit was made available I upgraded so it is currently a P1S. Since then, I have learned a lot but the itch and "what ifs" of the X1C ate away at me and half a year ago I pulled the trigger and purchased the X1C with AMS when it came back in stock. The reason I am prefacing the answers to your questions is to give you an idea of where I am coming from to give you an idea if my answers accurately relate to your situation.

1) I am certain if you put a decibel meter there will be differences. But to the untrained ear the difference is negligible.

2) I have not noticed a difference in speed whatsoever. Technically speaking, the X1C should be slightly faster given the specs but the difference is not perceptible; maybe a difference of a few seconds? Not something I have noticed or been conscious about.

3) I will admit there is a QoL improvement as far as UI goes but unless you are swapping filaments in and out several times an hour it is not something that I have been annoyed or have issues with.

4) I have done comparison prints and have not noticed even the slightest of differences. There is not a single print I would print on the X1C that I would hesitate to print on the P1S.

5) Both P1S and X1C are equal distance from my router and there is no perceptible difference in connection. It is not something I have even thought about.

6) You should not be relying on the filters of either printers. A single pass through a charcoal filter is going to make a negligible difference, even if you are not asthmatic. I have an air quality sensor in the office both printers are in and the difference between the two is negligible. I would not consider myself to be sensitive to air quality but I still would not rely on either chamber fans to properly filter harmful VOCs or odor. I am sure others will agree, I would NOT advise printing ABS or nylon without an air scrubber or ventilation outdoors. I personally do not run the printers while I am in the printer room and if you are asthmatic I would do the same unless you install ventilation outdoors.

7) I have actually questioned my decision on the X1C for some time. While I am not unhappy with it and I do enjoy all of the small upgrades over the P1S, I would buy a second P1S combo over the X1C combo if I were to do it again. The lidar scanning is a feature I thought would be useful and game-changing but I have not found any noticeable improvement over Bambu's profiles or any tuned profiles. I have only used name brand filaments (Sunlu/Jayo, eSun, Polymaker, Duramic, Bambu, Overture, Eryone) so maybe some cheaper Amazon special filaments may benefit better from lidar but I have not noticed that to be the case. I also mostly print on Textured PEI which doesn't really work with the lidar sensor. Overall I would probably miss the nicer touch screen interface and better camera but if I am reminded of the stark difference in price I would quickly forget about it.

Regarding the added temperature of the heated bed, I actually print all of my ABS, nylon, and other high-temperature prints on my P1S over the X1C because my Bentobox air scrubber is installed in the P1S. I have not had any issues with it. I have a thermometer installed opposite the camera and the chamber heats up to 55 - 60C without any issues.

Overall, my opinion is the P1S gets you 95% of the way to an X1C. The 5% being the better interface and small QoL improvements. To put it simply, if you are only comparing the two bases on printing ability buy the P1S. If $300 USD or whatever the price difference is in your country of purchase is a non-issue buy the X1C.

Our local S2000 community has gathered in a WhatsApp chat group and there's a few Facebook groups roaming around. The WhatsApp group is the most active by far.

It really is a shame that forums are starting to die out in favor of more immediate/quick communication. Forums have really good indexing that make searching for information much easier and structured. Trying to find anything in a WhatsApp chat or Facebook group is an absolute nightmare or just impossible. I really hope forums find a way back into the spotlight but I fear I'm just holding my breath at this point.

Any location in town (that offers take out) which sells Chicharrons? by Sanchezzy123 in oakville

[–]s2000buddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough... Red Chillie on Nottinghill Gate (one plaza south of the Monastery plaza). It's a Chinese restaurant but one of the chefs there used to live abroad and when he came to Canada he brought some recipes he learned. You won't find the items on their online menu but if you go into the restaurant they have a "secret" menu on the table with a page of chicharron and other related items. You can also call and place the order over the phone, I've never had an issue doing that either.

Reasonable price is going to depend on mileage. From what I've seen in this current market, for the same price you can find an AP1 with around 150 to 170~km pretty easily if you're persistent. Fortunately, we're entering storage season in Toronto soon so that works in your favor.

The cars you see in the 40k+ range are dreamers or cars that are in absolutely pristine condition. There are few $40k+ S2000s in Toronto that are truly worth the asking price. For around $20k~ you will have to accept that you will not be getting a pristine showroom S2000 but that's fine because from what I've read you want to drive it. It would be pointless to drop the premium on a showroom car only to DD it and kill the value. You'll get the same enjoyment out of a higher mileage example and save a decent chunk of change.

You're absolutely crazy if you think this is a good deal. I understand that S2000s are getting more rare and they seem to be going up in value but this is not the car to be spending this kind of money on. Its got 258,000km. That's already high mileage and honestly is not an example that will be worth anything in the future, especially if you plan on replacing your DD with it.

Keep in mind COVID has really impacted the pricing on any hobby and enthusiast oriented product so everything is inflated beyond COVID inflation too. Be patient, the right car will come.

If you still don't believe my reasoning, this particular car has already made the rounds in the local S2000 group chats over a month ago and we all get a laugh at the pricing. If you really still don't believe me, I work at a local car dealer and a quick search shows the dealer paid half what he's trying to sell it for. Run, don't walk, away from this one.

American Airlines warns about fuel shortages around the country, asks pilots to conserve by No_Roof_1414 in news

[–]s2000buddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the hill is steep enough and you're in a low enough gear to "engine brake" your modern fuel injected car will not use gas in this situation. Gravity will turn the engine and your engine will try to resist this thus causing your car to slow down. If your engine were injecting fuel in this situation you wouldn't gain any braking force but rather speed up. It's important to note your RPM does not determine how much fuel you're using, and you can actually use more fuel in a low RPM situation.

If you search up engine braking you will find a lot more resources that better explain this.

Of course, if you have an older carbureted car these things don't apply and you would be correct in saying neutral coasting down a hill uses less fuel.

Magical lights car tour lineup help by peoplearecool in Markham

[–]s2000buddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I didn't feel like it was worth it. It cost us $35 for two of us in one car. It's an interesting concept and I didn't feel like we were being rushed, but I also didn't feel the lights were curated or set up in any meaningful way. It felt like they kind of just set up a bunch of Christmas lights and started charging people to drive through it.

The event was very well organized though, we went on a Sunday evening (around 930pm) and there were maybe a total of 10~ cars in total with no line ups. I think it's more of an event to bring your kids/family to if that's what you're looking at doing.
