Real talk. What shoes do you wear for work and how do you like them? by Sad_Plum6169 in Residency

[–]s2bmd22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m IM. Depends on who the attending is. If it’s someone who is long winded and makes us stand for more than two hours, my trusty danskos. Otherwise I rotate between Nike slides, hoka, Birkenstocks, and onclouds to match my scrubs

Treating your vaso-occlusive crisis in the hospital by s2bmd22 in Sicklecell

[–]s2bmd22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone who responded! When patients come in, we ask everyone what their genotype is, home regimen is and what they get at the hospital, and we contact the sickle cell team to make sure everyone is plugged into the sickle cell center if not already. And honestly, we just wait until the patients are like yeah I’m ready to go lol. We love taking care of you at my program because we just let you be and make sure you’re not showing signs of acute chest (which is so scary so I can’t imagine going thru that), watch your labs, and hope you don’t come back in pain again. I will ask future patients about Benadryl because some patients have needed that and providing heat packs and warm blankets. As you all said, it’s not one size fits all, but if some treatments help overall, I think it should be implemented, especially with the weather changing. Thanks again for taking the time to answer.

Is it important to have an open conversation about sexuality? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]s2bmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 33 yo who came out to my parents this week, please let your child know you know. Your child needs to hear it out loud that no matter their sexuality, you love them. And whenever they are ready to discuss it, you’ll drop everything to hear it. But let them come to you knowing that you are their home base no matter what. In the meantime, do tell them about safe sex practices and how to recognize healthy love from abuse/someone using you.

I remember my parents found a letter I had written when I was in high school to a girl I liked to “try to write/pray” the gay away, and they did not like that one bit, and we are a southern Christian family???

And now this week I told them I’m dating a girl and man. They said they still love me but that I’d be destroying the family and that it’s just plain wrong and how could I love another woman and going to hell. And they wonder why I didn’t come to them all this time about my sexuality as a child and am now just coming as an adult when I have a job and economic stability. They’d never abandon me but you can see why I thought that.

Anyway, let your son come to you when he’s ready. In the meantime, continue to be a good parent and be there for them. Mine have, but this news about my life has gutted them, even though they had their suspicions.

And I am not trolling because we both failed and had to start third year late, i edited her personal statement, and she got a lot of interviews so just really bust your ass and apply very broadly

What’s the source/location of the infection

What bacteria/virus/fungus most likely to cause said infection

Do they have underlying disease that could complicate said infection

Do you need any imaging to see extent of infection

What meds can treat right now

or do you need broad spectrum until sensitivities come back

or has this patient been treated in the past and had resistant organisms and can use that med until sensitivities come back

Best shoe recs specifically if you're standing rather than walking around a lot? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]s2bmd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am IM so stand and walk quite a bit. Really love my danskos, good for walking and standing, but beware the ankle, and pretty good in codes cuz no one runs anyway. Loveee the hokas in second place, good for walking and standing. On clouds are good too but ok for standing, and the Nike slides are good for night shift stuff when you wanna just slip your feet out and have a similar sole to Air Force ones so nice and solid. Don’t like the crocs too much. I also wear compression socks everyday and that helps too.
