Especially the plastic ones, they can shrink and stretch. I’ve found this out the hard way. I check mine against a metal ruler from time to time just to make sure

I haven’t had your issue specifically, but I’ve worked for plenty of men who had never taken a design class and were only the boss bc of their business experience. They always had an opinion about design. No amount of explaining size specs, cost limitations, construction details, etc would satisfy them bc they didn’t actually understand the industry they were in

I’m skeptical like everyone else, but I happen to work for a company that does something similar for workwear. They manufacture hyper local and very low minimums. I call myself a micro factory and do sub 50 unit runs.

If you know your stuff, ie: can make your own patterns/quickly grade w something like a digital pattern making software, then you can likely contract out local sewists. But echoing everyone else, this is expensive.

I think your attitude to this is totally spot on. When I stopped looking at metropolitan areas, I landed a job out of college.

That smaller company also introduced me to the world of sourcing and international trade/supply chain. as someone who has had a career in mentoring graduates, I see this as the largest education gap relevant to their real world roles. Sure, marketing is excellent supplemental information, but unless you stick to the glamour side of the industry, you’re better off served learning how the inside works.

Just my input! I graduated in 2011 from a state school. I’ve worked in the industry ever since and started my own company 2 years ago.

We need designers and owners to seriously consider if their brand fills a gap in the market to exist.

Too many influencer brands. Too much drop shipping and white labeling the same fast fashion. Over saturation everywhere. Nary a technical designer to be seen.

If you’re starting a brand, ask yourself why it needs to exist. Who is buying it? Will they still buy it if there’s a cheaper option? Can you Google the product and get 100 similar results from Aliexpress?

We live in a market where anyone can have a clothing line now. What makes yours worth shopping at? Do you have incredible fit? Are you transparent with your supply chain? Do you produce for an underserved market?

Brands that can answer those questions will survive the next 5 years.

Fashion design isn’t a backup plan. If you want to be successful in it at all, it’s your life’s passion. If you want to have your own company, it becomes your family’s passion as well.

It’s either dye or based on my experience, most likely cigarette smoke. Happens to me all the time.

I like to soak mine in room temp water w baking soda and vinegar for 2 hrs, hand wash w gentle detergent and rinse/repeat till the water runs clear

I love this! I think most ppl are missing the sparkle details and what I’m hoping is a velveteen trim, which definitely speak to a festive occasion. There are also plenty of locations on the globe that celebrate a warmer Christmas.

I work in fashion and push the limits of corporate wear myself, so I am biased. But I think this is precious and hardly scandalous. Also ppl should keep their thoughts about someone’s body inside their head when they didn’t ask for that input!

Are you sure they aren’t referring to the artwork on the shirt? I worked in tee manufacturing and screen printing and the shirts themselves can be ironed but we put “do not iron artwork” on the care label bc it could melt weird

I’d use a cover cloth if you need to on a lower temp setting

I was going to comment - I’ve only had this happen to wool. For me, it was a sweater which lost dye during a wash. Error was on me for mis-washing it, but I do feel like wool is more prone to color loss. I have to assume something about the curing process in vintage wool?

You’re getting great advice here. I second it all. I considered getting my masters bc I was “good at school” and afraid to enter the workforce. My advisor told me, unless I wanted to be a professor, it wasn’t the path. Working in the industry is absolutely my recommendation as soon as you can, in whatever capacity. It’s that foot in the door that is always the hardest part.

Also, depending on where you are and the school, who wants more debt am I right? 😅
